Micah 5
Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition
5 [a] Now you are walled about with a wall;[b]
siege is laid against us;
with a rod they strike upon the cheek
the ruler of Israel.
The Ruler from Bethlehem
2 [c] But you, O Bethlehem Eph′rathah,
who are little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose origin is from of old,
from ancient days.
3 Therefore he shall give them up until the time
when she who is in travail has brought forth;
then the rest of his brethren shall return
to the people of Israel.
4 And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great
to the ends of the earth.
5 And this shall be peace,
when the Assyrian comes into our land
and treads upon our soil,[d]
that we will raise against him seven shepherds
and eight princes of men;
6 they shall rule the land of Assyria with the sword,
and the land of Nimrod with the drawn sword;[e]
and they[f] shall deliver us from the Assyrian
when he comes into our land
and treads within our border.
The Future Role of the Remnant
7 Then the remnant of Jacob shall be
in the midst of many peoples
like dew from the Lord,
like showers upon the grass,
which tarry not for men
nor wait for the sons of men.
8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations,
in the midst of many peoples,
like a lion among the beasts of the forest,
like a young lion among the flocks of sheep,
which, when it goes through, treads down
and tears in pieces, and there is none to deliver.
9 Your hand shall be lifted up over your adversaries,
and all your enemies shall be cut off.
10 And in that day, says the Lord,
I will cut off your horses from among you
and will destroy your chariots;
11 and I will cut off the cities of your land
and throw down all your strongholds;
12 and I will cut off sorceries from your hand,
and you shall have no more soothsayers;
13 and I will cut off your images
and your pillars from among you,
and you shall bow down no more
to the work of your hands;
14 and I will root out your Ashe′rim from among you
and destroy your cities.
15 And in anger and wrath I will execute vengeance
upon the nations that did not obey.
Micah 5
New Century Version
5 So, strong city, gather your soldiers together,
because we are surrounded and attacked.
They will hit the leader of Israel
in the face with a club.
The Ruler to Be Born in Bethlehem
2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are too small to be among the army groups from Judah,
from you will come one who will rule Israel for me.
He comes from very old times,
from days long ago.”
3 The Lord will give up his people
until the one who is having a baby gives birth;
then the rest of his relatives will return
to the people of Israel.
4 At that time the ruler of Israel will stand
and take care of his people
with the Lord’s strength
and with the power of the name of the Lord his God.
The Israelites will live in safety,
because his greatness will reach all over the earth.
5 He will bring peace.
Rescue and Punishment
Assyria will surely come into our country
and walk over our large buildings.
We will set up seven shepherds,
eight leaders of the people.
6 They will destroy the Assyrians with their swords;
they will conquer the land of Assyria with their swords drawn.
They will rescue us from the Assyrians when they come into our land,
when they walk over our borders.
7 Then the people of Jacob who are left alive
will be to other people
like dew from the Lord
or rain on the grass—
it does not wait for human beings;
it does not pause for any person.
8 Those of Jacob’s people who are left alive
will be scattered among many nations and peoples.
They will be like a lion among the animals of the forest,
like a young lion in a flock of sheep:
As it goes, it jumps on them
and tears them to pieces,
and no one can save them.
9 So you will raise your fist in victory over your enemies,
and all your enemies will be destroyed.
10 The Lord says, “At that time,
I will take your horses from you
and destroy your chariots.
11 I will destroy the cities in your country
and tear down all your defenses.
12 I will take away the magic charms you use
so you will have no more fortune-tellers.
13 I will destroy your statues of gods
and the stone pillars you worship
so that you will no longer worship
what your hands have made.
14 I will tear down Asherah idols from you
and destroy your cities.
15 In my anger and rage,
I will pay back the nations that have not listened.”

5 Bây giờ, hỡi con gái của các đội ngũ, hãy sắp xếp đội ngũ ngươi,
Chúng ta bị vây hãm!
Chúng nó dùng gậy đánh vào má
Người cầm quyền dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.
2 Còn ngươi, hỡi Bết-lê-hem Ép-ra-ta,
Ngươi thật nhỏ trong các bộ tộc của Giu-đa,
Nhưng từ nơi ngươi sẽ xuất hiện một người.
Người ấy sẽ thay Ta cai trị dân Y-sơ-ra-ên.
Gốc tích người có từ thuở trước,
Từ những ngày xa xưa.
3 Vì thế Ngài phó mặc dân Ngài
Cho đến khi người nữ chuyển bụng đã sinh con,
Và anh em người còn lại quay trở về
Với con cái Y-sơ-ra-ên.
4 Người sẽ đứng vững và chăn bầy mình,
Nhờ sức mạnh của CHÚA,
Nhờ uy danh CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời người.
Dân Ngài sẽ sống yên ổn,
Vì bấy giờ khắp đầu cùng đất sẽ tôn trọng người.
5 Người sẽ mang bình an đến.
Nếu quân A-si-ri xâm nhập lãnh thổ chúng ta,
Nếu chúng giẫm lên các pháo đài chúng ta,
Chúng ta sẽ dấy lên đầy đủ người lãnh đạo tài giỏi
Nghịch lại chúng.
6 Những người này sẽ dùng gươm mà cai trị lãnh thổ A-si-ri,
Gươm tuốt ra khỏi vỏ mà cai trị lãnh thổ của Nim-rốt.
Người sẽ giải cứu chúng ta khỏi quân A-si-ri
Khi chúng xâm nhập lãnh thổ chúng ta,
Khi chúng giẫm lên bờ cõi chúng ta.
Dân Sót Lại Sẽ Cai Trị Các Dân Tộc
7 Lúc ấy dân sót lại của Gia-cốp,
Ở giữa nhiều dân tộc,
Khác nào sương móc từ CHÚA,
Khác nào mưa rơi xuống cây cỏ.
Sương móc và mưa ấy không nán lại vì người nào,
Cũng không chờ đợi con cái loài người.
8 Lúc ấy dân sót lại của Gia-cốp giữa các nước,
Ở giữa nhiều dân tộc,
Khác nào sư tử ở giữa các loài thú trong rừng,
Khác nào sư tử tơ giữa các bầy chiên.
Sư tử đi ngang qua, giầy đạp, cắn xé,
Không ai cứu được.
9 Tay ngươi sẽ giơ cao lên chiến thắng kẻ chống đối,
Và mọi kẻ thù ngươi sẽ bị diệt trừ.
Tẩy Sạch Dân Chúa
10 CHÚA phán: “Trong ngày ấy,
Ta sẽ diệt trừ các ngựa chiến khỏi giữa ngươi,
Ta sẽ phá hủy các chiến xa của ngươi;
11 Ta sẽ diệt trừ các thành phố trong lãnh thổ ngươi.
Ta sẽ phá sập mọi đồn lũy ngươi;
12 Ta sẽ diệt trừ phép phù thủy khỏi tay ngươi.
Ngươi sẽ không còn người bói toán nữa;
13 Ta sẽ diệt trừ các thần tượng ngươi,
Các trụ đá khỏi giữa các ngươi.
Ngươi sẽ không còn quỳ lạy
Vật tay ngươi làm ra nữa;
14 Ta sẽ nhổ sạch các trụ A-sê-ra khỏi giữa các ngươi.
Ta sẽ hủy phá các khu đền miếu của các ngươi;
15 Trong cơn phẫn nộ sôi sục, Ta sẽ báo trả tội ác
Các dân tộc không chịu vâng phục Ta.”
