5 Cho nên, hỡi thành vững mạnh [a],
hãy triệu tập các quân sĩ ngươi lại,
vì chúng ta đã bị bao vây và bị tấn công.
Chúng sẽ dùng gậy đánh vào mặt lãnh tụ Ít-ra-en.
Một lãnh tụ sẽ sinh ra ở Bết-lê-hem
2 “Còn ngươi, hỡi Bết-lê-hem Ép-ra-tha,
dù ngươi nhỏ bé nhất giữa các thành Giu-đa,
nhưng từ ngươi sẽ xuất hiện
một lãnh tụ dân Ít-ra-en cho ta.
Gốc tích Ngài từ xưa, xưa lắm.”
3 CHÚA [b] sẽ không để dân Ngài bị đánh bại,
cho đến khi đàn bà đã sinh con, vua mà Ngài đã hứa,
rồi các anh em của vua ấy sẽ trở lại,
nhập chung với dân Ít-ra-en.
4 Trong lúc đó vua sẽ cai trị dân Ít-ra-en,
trong quyền năng của CHÚA
và trong danh CHÚA là Thượng Đế,
Ngài sẽ dẫn dắt dân Ngài.
Họ sẽ sống trong an ninh,
vì uy danh Ngài sẽ lan tràn khắp đất [c].
5 Ngài sẽ mang lại hòa bình.
Giải cứu và trừng phạt
A-xy-ri chắc chắn sẽ đến trong xứ chúng ta
và dẫm lên các tòa nhà lớn.
Chúng ta sẽ cử ra bảy người chăn chiên,
tám lãnh tụ của dân chúng.
6 Họ sẽ dùng gươm tiêu diệt người A-xy-ri;
họ sẽ chiến thắng đất của Nim-Rốt [d]
Họ sẽ giải cứu chúng ta
khỏi người A-xy-ri,
khi chúng tiến vào xứ chúng ta,
lúc chúng bước qua biên giới chúng ta.
7 Rồi dân còn sót lại của Gia-cốp
sẽ như sương xuống từ CHÚA
hay mưa rơi trên cỏ,
cho các dân tộc khác.
Nó không đợi người nào;
Không dừng lại chờ ai cả.
8 Dân còn sót lại của Gia-cốp
sẽ bị phân tán khắp các dân tộc.
Họ sẽ như sư tử ở giữa muông thú trong rừng,
như sư tử tơ ở giữa bầy chiên;
Khi đi, nó lao vào chúng
và xé nát chúng ra, không ai cứu được.
9 Cho nên ngươi sẽ giơ tay
tỏ dấu đắc thắng trên quân thù,
và mọi kẻ thù ngươi sẽ bị tiêu diệt.
Dân chúng sẽ trông cậy vào Thượng Đế
10 CHÚA phán, “Lúc ấy ta sẽ cướp ngựa của ngươi
và tiêu hủy các quân xa ngươi.
11 Ta sẽ tiêu diệt các thành phố trong xứ ngươi
và phá sập các tuyến phòng thủ của ngươi.
12 Ta sẽ dẹp bỏ bùa phép mà ngươi dùng
để ngươi không còn thầy bói nào nữa.
13 Ta sẽ tiêu diệt các thần tượng ngươi
và các trụ thờ mà ngươi dựng lên
để ngươi không còn bái lạy
vật tay mình làm ra nữa.
14 Ta sẽ phá sập tượng A-sê-ra khỏi ngươi
và tiêu diệt các thành phố [e] ngươi.
15 Trong cơn thịnh nộ của ta,
Ta sẽ báo trả các dân không chịu nghe ta.”

Micah 5
King James Version
5 Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
5 And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
6 And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
9 Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:
11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
13 Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
14 And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.
15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
Micah 5

Chapter 5
1 But from you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,[a]
among the tiniest of the clans of Judah,
from you will come forth for me
one who is to be a ruler in Israel,
one whose origins are from the distant past,
from ancient times.
2 Therefore, the Lord will abandon them
only until she who is in labor has given birth.
Then those of the people who survive
will be reunited with the Israelites.
3 He will rise up to shepherd his flock
by the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name
of the Lord his God.
And they will live in security,
for then his greatness will be renowned
to the ends of the earth.
4 He will ensure their peace.
If Assyria Invades Our Country . . .
If the Assyrians invade our country
and set foot upon our land,
we shall raise against them seven shepherds
and appoint eight[b] men to serve as rulers.
5 They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword,
and the land of Nimrod with drawn swords.
And we will be delivered from Assyria
if it invades our country
or treads upon our borders.
The Remnant of Jacob
6 Then the remnant of Jacob,
surrounded by many peoples,
will be like dew from the Lord,
like showers on the grass,
which do not depend upon man
or wait for any man’s bidding.
7 And among the nations the remnant of Jacob
will be surrounded by many peoples,
like a lion among the beasts of the forest,
like a young lion among the flocks of sheep,
trampling and tearing to pieces as it goes,
with no one able to stop the carnage.
8 Your hand will be lifted up over your foes,
and all your adversaries will be destroyed.
9 On that day, says the Lord,
I will slaughter your horses
and destroy your chariots.
10 I will demolish the cities of your land
and raze all your fortresses to the ground.
11 I will eliminate your sorcerers,
and there will be no more soothsayers among you.
12 I will cut down your images
and the sacred pillars in your midst;
you will no longer worship
the work of your hands.
13 I will uproot your sacred poles[c]
and destroy your cities.
14 In anger and fury, I will wreak vengeance
on the nations that have disobeyed me.

- Micah 5:1 Bethlehem Ephrathah: the second name distinguishes this Bethlehem from a Bethlehem in Galilee. Ephrathah was the name of the family group that settled there; it then came to signify the city.

- Micah 5:13 Sacred poles: sacred poles symbolizing the female Canaanite divinity of the vegetation.
