Ang Pagpupulong sa Jerusalem
15 May (A) ilang taong dumating sa Antioquia mula sa Judea na nagtuturo ng ganito sa mga kapatid, “Malibang kayo'y tuliin ayon sa Kautusan ni Moises, hindi kayo maliligtas.” 2 Mahigpit na nakipagtalo sina Pablo at Bernabe sa kanila tungkol dito. At dahil naging mainit ang kanilang salungatan, sina Pablo at Bernabe, kasama ang iba pa, ay inatasang pumunta sa Jerusalem upang isangguni ang suliraning ito sa mga apostol at sa matatandang tagapamahala ng iglesya. 3 Sinugo nga sila ng iglesya. Sa kanilang pagdaan sa Fenicia at Samaria, iniulat nila ang pagbabalik-loob ng mga Hentil, na nakapagbigay ng malaking kagalakan sa lahat ng mga kapatid. 4 Nang makarating sila sa Jerusalem, malugod silang tinanggap ng buong iglesya, ng mga apostol at ng matatanda. 16 ‘Pagkatapos (D) ng mga ito, ako'y babalik,
at muli kong itatayo ang bumagsak na tolda ni David;
muli ko itong ibabangon mula sa pagkaguho,
17 upang hanapin ng nalabi sa mga tao ang Panginoon,
at ng lahat ng mga Hentil na tinatawag sa aking pangalan,
sabi ng Panginoon na gumawa ng mga ito,
18 na nagpakilala mula noong una.’
19 Kaya't ako'y humahatol na huwag na nating pahirapan ang mga Hentil na nagbabalik-loob sa Diyos. 20 Sa (E) halip, sulatan natin sila na huwag kumain ng mga pagkaing pinarumi dahil ihinandog sa diyus-diyosan, huwag makiapid, at huwag kumain ng dugo at ng hayop na binigti. 21 Sapagkat noong araw pa ay ipinangangaral na ang Kautusan ni Moises sa bawat lungsod at binabasa sa mga sinagoga tuwing Sabbath.”
Ang Sulat sa mga Mananampalatayang Hentil
22 Nang magkagayo'y minabuti ng mga apostol at ng matatandang tagapamahala, at ng buong iglesya, na pumili ng mga lalaki mula sa kanilang hanay at isugo sa Antioquia kasama nina Pablo at Bernabe. Isinugo nila si Judas na tinatawag na Barsabas, at si Silas, mga lalaking iginagalang ng mga kapatid. 23 Sa pamamagitan nila'y ipinadala ang liham na ganito ang nilalaman:
“Kaming mga apostol, mga matatanda, at mga kapatid ay bumabati sa mga kapatid na Hentil na nasa Antioquia, Syria at Cilicia. 24 Yamang nabalitaan namin na ginugulo kayo ng ilang tao na galing dito, kahit hindi namin sila inutusan, 25 napagkasunduan naming magpadala sa inyo ng mga sugo. Kasama sila ng ating mga minamahal na sina Bernabe at Pablo, 26 mga taong nagsuong sa panganib ng kanilang buhay alang-alang sa pangalan ng ating Panginoong Jesu-Cristo. 27 Isinugo namin sina Judas at Silas upang ipaliwanag sa inyo ang nilalaman ng liham na ito. 28 Minabuti ng Banal na Espiritu at minabuti rin naming huwag na kayong bigyan ng mabigat na pasanin maliban sa mga ito na talagang kailangan: 29 Huwag kayong kakain ng anumang ihinandog sa mga diyus-diyosan, ng dugo, at ng mga binigting hayop. Huwag kayong makikiapid. Iwasan ninyo ang mga bagay na ito at mapapabuti kayo. Paalam.”
30 Pinaalis ang mga sugo at pumunta ang mga ito sa Antioquia. Nang matipon na nila ang kapulungan ay kanilang ibinigay ang sulat. 31 Pagkabasa nila nito, sila ay nagalak sa kanilang narinig. 32 Sina Judas at Silas, na mga propeta rin, ay marami pang sinabi na nagpalakas ng loob at nagpatatag sa mga kapatid. 33 Pagkatapos na manatili roon ng ilang panahon, sila'y payapang pinabalik ng mga kapatid sa mga nagsugo sa kanila. 34 [Ngunit minabuti ni Silas ang manatili roon.][b] 35 Nanatili sina Pablo at Bernabe sa Antioquia, at kasama ng marami pang iba, ay nagturo at nangaral ng salita ng Panginoon.

36 Makaraan ang ilang araw, sinabi ni Pablo kay Bernabe, “Balikan natin at dalawin ang mga kapatid sa bawat lungsod na pinangaralan natin ng salita ng Panginoon, at tingnan natin kung ano ang kalagayan nila.” 37 Nais ni Bernabe na kanilang isama si Juan, na tinatawag ding Marcos. 38 Ngunit (F) iginiit ni Pablo na huwag itong isama, sapagkat humiwalay ito noon at mula sa Pamfilia ay hindi na sumama sa kanilang gawain. 39 Nagkaroon sila ng mainitang pagtatalo na humantong sa kanilang paghihiwalay. Isinama ni Bernabe si Marcos, at naglayag patungong Cyprus. 40 Pinili naman ni Pablo si Silas, at sila'y umalis matapos ipagtagubilin ng mga kapatid sa pag-iingat ng Panginoon. 41 Naglakbay siya sa Syria at Cilicia at pinatatag ang mga iglesya.

15 May mga taong galing sa Judea na pumunta sa Antioc at nagturo sa mga kapatid doon na silang mga hindi Judio ay hindi maliligtas kung hindi sila magpapatuli ayon sa kaugaliang itinuro ni Moises. 2 Hindi ito sinang-ayunan nina Pablo at Bernabe, at naging mainit ang pagtatalo nila tungkol dito. Kaya nagkaisa ang mga mananampalataya roon na papuntahin sa Jerusalem sina Pablo at Bernabe at ang iba pang mga mananampalataya sa Antioc, para makipagkita sa mga apostol at sa mga namumuno sa iglesya tungkol sa bagay na ito.
3 Kaya pinapunta ng iglesya sina Pablo. At nang dumaan sila sa Fenicia at sa Samaria, ibinalita nila sa mga kapatid na may mga hindi Judio na sumampalataya kay Cristo. Nang marinig nila ito, tuwang-tuwa sila. 4 Pagdating nina Pablo sa Jerusalem tinanggap sila ng iglesya, ng mga apostol, at ng mga namumuno sa iglesya. At ipinakita niya na tinatanggap din niya ang mga hindi Judio, dahil binigyan din sila ng Banal na Espiritu katulad ng ginawa niya sa atin noon. 9 Sa paningin ng Dios, tayong mga Judio at silang mga hindi Judio ay pare-pareho lang. Dahil nilinis din niya ang kanilang puso nang sumampalataya sila. 10 Ngayon, bakit nʼyo sinusubukan ang Dios? Bakit nʼyo pinipilit ang mga hindi Judiong tagasunod ni Jesus na sumunod sa mga kautusan na kahit ang ating mga ninuno at tayo mismo ay hindi makasunod? 11 Naniniwala tayo na maliligtas tayo sa pamamagitan ng biyaya ng Panginoong Jesu-Cristo, at ganito rin naman sa mga hindi Judio.”
12 Nang marinig nila iyon, tumahimik silang lahat. At pinakinggan nila ang salaysay nina Bernabe at Pablo tungkol sa mga himala at kamangha-manghang bagay na ginawa ng Dios sa mga hindi Judio sa pamamagitan nila. 13 Pagkatapos nilang magsalita, sinabi ni Santiago, “Mga kapatid, makinig kayo sa akin. 14 Ikinuwento sa atin ni Simon Pedro ang unang pagtawag ng Dios sa mga hindi Judio para may mga tao ring mula sa kanila na maging kanya. 15 Itoʼy ayon din sa mga isinulat ng mga propeta noon, dahil sinasabi sa Kasulatan,
16 ‘Pagkatapos nito, babalik ako,
at itatayo kong muli ang kaharian ni David na bumagsak.
Ibabangon ko itong muli mula sa pagkaguho,
17 para hanapin ako ng ibang tao – ang lahat ng hindi Judio na aking tinawag na maging akin.
Ako, ang Panginoon, ang nagsasabi nito,
18 at matagal ko na itong ipinahayag.’ ”
19 Sinabi pa ni Santiago, “Kaya kung sa akin lang, huwag na nating pahirapan ang mga hindi Judio na lumalapit sa Dios. 20 Sa halip, sulatan natin sila na huwag kumain ng mga pagkaing inihandog sa mga dios-diosan, dahil itoʼy itinuturing nating marumi. Iwasan nila ang sekswal na imoralidad. At huwag kakain ng dugo o karne ng hayop na namatay nang hindi tumulo ang dugo. 21 Ito ang mga utos ni Moises na dapat nilang sundin para hindi mandiri ang mga Judio sa kanila, dahil mula pa noon, ang Kautusan ni Moises ay binabasa na ng mga Judio sa kanilang sambahan tuwing Araw ng Pamamahinga. At itinuturo nila ito sa bawat bayan.”
Ang Sulat para sa mga Hindi Judio
22 Nagkasundo ang mga apostol, ang mga namumuno sa iglesya at ang lahat ng mga mananampalataya na pipili sila ng mga lalaki mula sa kanilang grupo na ipapadala sa Antioc, kasama nina Pablo at Bernabe. Ang napili nilaʼy si Judas na tinatawag na Barsabas at si Silas. Ang mga taong ito ay iginagalang ng mga mananampalataya, 23 at sila ang magdadala ng sulat na ito:
“Mula sa mga apostol at mga namumuno sa iglesya.
“Mahal naming mga kapatid na hindi Judio riyan sa Antioc, Syria at Cilicia:
24 “Nabalitaan namin na may mga taong mula rito sa amin na pumunta riyan at nilito ang inyong kaisipan dahil sa kanilang itinuro. Hindi namin sila inutusan na pumunta riyan at magturo ng ganoon. 25 Kaya nang marinig namin ito, napagkaisahan naming pumili ng mga tao na ipapadala namin sa inyo para sabihin ang mga bagay na aming napagkasunduan. Kasama nila sina Bernabe at Pablo na minamahal nating mga kapatid. 26 Sina Bernabe at Pablo ay naglaan ng kanilang buhay sa paglilingkod sa ating Panginoong Jesu-Cristo. 27 Sasabihin din nina Judas at Silas na aming ipinadala sa inyo ang tungkol sa mga nilalaman ng sulat na ito. 28 Nagkasundo kami ayon sa patnubay ng Banal na Espiritu na huwag nang dagdagan pa ang mga dapat ninyong sundin maliban sa mga ito: 29 Huwag kayong kakain ng mga pagkaing inihandog sa mga dios-diosan; huwag kayong kakain ng dugo o karne ng hayop na namatay nang hindi tumulo ang dugo. At iwasan ninyo ang sekswal na imoralidad. Mabuting iwasan ninyo ang mga bagay na ito. Hanggang dito na lang.”
30 At umalis nga ang mga taong ipinadala nila. Pagdating nila sa Antioc, tinipon nila ang lahat ng mga mananampalataya at ibinigay nila agad ang sulat. 31 Tuwang-tuwa sila nang mabasa ang nilalaman ng sulat na nakapagpasigla sa kanila. 32 Sina Judas at Silas ay mga propeta rin, at marami ang kanilang itinuro sa mga kapatid para palakasin ang kanilang pananampalataya. 33 Pagkatapos ng ilang araw na pananatili roon, bumalik sila sa Jerusalem, sa mga nagpadala sa kanila. Pero bago sila umalis, ipinanalangin muna sila ng mga kapatid na maging maayos ang kanilang paglalakbay. [34 Pero nagpasya si Silas na magpaiwan doon.] 35 Nanatili sina Pablo at Bernabe ng ilang araw sa Antioc. Marami silang kasamang nagtuturo at nangangaral ng salita ng Panginoon.
Naghiwalay sina Pablo at Bernabe
36 Makalipas ang ilang araw, sinabi ni Pablo kay Bernabe, “Bumalik tayo sa lahat ng bayan na pinangaralan natin ng salita ng Panginoon, at dalawin natin ang ating mga kapatid para malaman natin ang kalagayan nila.” 37 Sumang-ayon si Bernabe pero gusto niyang isama si Juan na tinatawag ding Marcos. 38 Pero ayaw pumayag ni Pablo, dahil noong una nakasama nila si Marcos pero iniwan sila nito noong nasa Pamfilia sila. 39 Matindi ang kanilang pagtatalo, kaya naghiwalay sila. Isinama ni Bernabe si Marcos at pumunta sila sa Cyprus. 40 Isinama naman ni Pablo si Silas. Bago sila umalis, ipinanalangin sila ng mga kapatid na tulungan sila ng Panginoon sa kanilang paglalakbay. 41 Pumunta sina Pablo sa Syria at sa Cilicia at pinatatag nila ang mga iglesya roon.

The Council at Jerusalem
15 Certain people(A) came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers:(B) “Unless you are circumcised,(C) according to the custom taught by Moses,(D) you cannot be saved.” 2 This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem(E) to see the apostles and elders(F) about this question. 3 The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia(G) and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted.(H) This news made all the believers very glad. 4 When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them.(I)
5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party(J) of the Pharisees(K) stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”(L)
6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.(M) 8 God, who knows the heart,(N) showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them,(O) just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them,(P) for he purified their hearts by faith.(Q) 10 Now then, why do you try to test God(R) by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke(S) that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace(T) of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”
12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders(U) God had done among the Gentiles through them.(V) 13 When they finished, James(W) spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me. 14 Simon[a] has described to us how God first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles.(X) 15 The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:
16 “‘After this I will return
and rebuild David’s fallen tent.
Its ruins I will rebuild,
and I will restore it,
17 that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
says the Lord, who does these things’[b](Y)—
18 things known from long ago.[c](Z)
19 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols,(AA) from sexual immorality,(AB) from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.(AC) 21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”(AD)
The Council’s Letter to Gentile Believers
22 Then the apostles and elders,(AE) with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch(AF) with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas,(AG) men who were leaders among the believers. 23 With them they sent the following letter:
The apostles and elders, your brothers,
To the Gentile believers in Antioch,(AH) Syria(AI) and Cilicia:(AJ)
Greetings.(AK)
24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said.(AL) 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26 men who have risked their lives(AM) for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas(AN) to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit(AO) and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality.(AP) You will do well to avoid these things.
Farewell.
30 So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31 The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32 Judas and Silas,(AQ) who themselves were prophets,(AR) said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33 After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace(AS) to return to those who had sent them. [34] [d] 35 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached(AT) the word of the Lord.(AU)
Disagreement Between Paul and Barnabas
36 Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns(AV) where we preached the word of the Lord(AW) and see how they are doing.” 37 Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark,(AX) with them, 38 but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them(AY) in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39 They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40 but Paul chose Silas(AZ) and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord.(BA) 41 He went through Syria(BB) and Cilicia,(BC) strengthening the churches.(BD)

Controversy about the Law
15 Then some men came down from Judea and started to teach the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the Law of Moses, you can’t be saved.” 2 Paul and Barnabas had quite a dispute and argument with them. So Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to confer with the apostles and elders about this question. 3 They were sent on their way by the church, and as they were going through Phoenicia and Samaria they told of the conversion of the gentiles and brought great joy to all the brothers. 4 When they arrived in Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church, the apostles, and the elders, and they reported everything that God had done through them. 5 But some believers from the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The gentiles[a] must be circumcised and ordered to keep the Law of Moses.”
6 So the apostles and the elders met to look into this claim. 7 After a lengthy debate, Peter stood up and told them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days, God chose me to be the one among you through whom the gentiles would hear the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows everyone’s heart, showed them he approved by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us. 9 He made no distinction between them and us, because of their faith-cleansed hearts. 10 So why do you test God by putting on the disciples’ neck a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we could carry? 11 We certainly believe that it is through the grace of the Lord Jesus, the Messiah,[b] that we are saved, just as they are.”
12 The whole crowd was silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul tell about all the signs and wonders that God had done through them among the gentiles. 13 After Paul and Barnabas[c] had finished speaking, James responded, “Brothers, listen to me: 14 Simeon[d] has explained how God first showed his concern for the gentiles by taking from among them a people for his name. 15 This agrees with the words of the prophets. As it is written,
16 ‘“After this, I will come back
and set up David’s fallen tent again.
I will restore its ruined places
and set it up again
17 so that the rest of the people may search for the Lord,
including all the gentiles who are called by my name,’
declares the Lord.[e]
‘He is the one who has been doing these things
18 that have been known from long ago.’[f]
19 “Therefore, I have decided that we should not trouble these gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Instead, we should write to them to keep away from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from anything strangled,[g] and from blood.[h] 21 After all, Moses has had people to proclaim him in every city for generations, and on every Sabbath his books are[i] read aloud in the synagogues.”
The Reply of the Church
22 Then the apostles, the elders, and the whole church decided to choose some of their men to send with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch. These were Judas, who was called Barsabbas, and Silas, who were leaders among the brothers. 23 They wrote this letter for them to deliver:[j]
“From:[k] The apostles and the elders, your brothers
To: Their gentile brothers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia.
Greetings. 24 We have heard that some men, coming from us without instructions from us, have said things to trouble you and have unsettled you.[l] 25 So we have unanimously decided to choose men and send them to you with our dear Barnabas and Paul, 26 who have risked their lives for the sake of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah.[m] 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas to tell you the same things by word of mouth. 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to place on you any burden but these essential requirements: 29 to keep away from food sacrificed to idols, from blood,[n] from anything strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you avoid these things, you will do well. Goodbye.”
30 So the men were sent on their way and arrived in Antioch. They gathered the congregation together and delivered the letter. 31 When the people[o] read it, they were pleased with how the letter encouraged them. 32 Then Judas and Silas, who were also prophets, said a lot to encourage and strengthen the brothers. 33 After staying there for some time, they were sent back with a greeting[p] from the brothers to those who had sent them.[q] 35 Both Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch to teach and proclaim the word of the Lord, as did many others.
Paul and Barnabas Disagree
36 A few days later, Paul told Barnabas, “Let’s go back and visit the brothers in every town where we proclaimed the word of the Lord and see how they’re doing.” 37 Barnabas wanted to take along John, who was called Mark, 38 but Paul did not think it was right to take along the man who had deserted them in Pamphylia and who had not gone with them into the work. 39 The disagreement was so sharp that they parted ways. Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus, 40 while Paul chose Silas and left after the brothers had entrusted him to the grace of the Lord.[r] 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia and strengthened the churches.
