Ang Pagsusugo kina Bernabe at Saulo
13 Sa iglesya sa Antioquia ay may mga propeta at mga guro. Kabilang dito sina Bernabe, si Simeon na tinatawag ding Negro, si Lucio na taga-Cirene, si Manaen na malapit kay Herodes, at si Saulo. 2 Habang sila'y sumasamba sa Panginoon at nag-aayuno, sinabi sa kanila ng Banal na Espiritu, “Ibukod ninyo para sa akin sina Bernabe at Saulo. Kasama rin nila si Juan bilang katulong. 6 Nilakbay nila ang buong pulo hanggang sa Pafos. Nakatagpo nila roon ang isang Judiong salamangkero at huwad na propeta na ang pangalan ay Bar-Jesus. 7 Kasama siya ng gobernador na si Sergio Paulo na isang lalaking matalino. Ipinatawag ng gobernador sina Bernabe at Saulo sapagkat nais niyang mapakinggan ang salita ng Diyos. 8 Ngunit upang huwag sumampalataya ang gobernador, sinalungat sila ni Elimas na salamangkero, sapagkat iyon ang kahulugan ng kanyang pangalan. 9 Subalit tinitigan siya ni Saulo, na kilala rin bilang Pablo, na puspos ng Banal na Espiritu, 10 at pinagsabihang, “Ikaw! Anak ka ng diyablo! Kaaway ka ng lahat ng katuwiran! Punung-puno ka ng lahat ng pandaraya at panlilinlang! Kailan ka ba titigil sa pagbaluktot sa matutuwid na daan ng Panginoon? 11 Ngayo'y parurusahan ka ng kamay ng Panginoon. Mabubulag ka at hindi mo makikita ang liwanag sa loob ng maikling panahon.”
Noon di'y tinakpan ng maitim na ulap ang mga mata ni Elimas, at siya'y lumibot na humahanap ng aakay sa kanya. 12 Sumampalataya ang gobernador nang makita ang nangyari, sapagkat siya'y namangha sa turo tungkol sa Panginoon.
Sa Antioquia ng Pisidia
13 Mula sa Pafos, naglayag si Pablo at ang kanyang mga kasama hanggang sa Perga sa Pamfilia. Ngunit iniwan sila ni Juan at nagbalik sa Jerusalem. 14 Nagpatuloy sila mula sa Perga hanggang Antioquia ng Pisidia. Nang araw ng Sabbath, pumasok sila sa sinagoga at umupo. 15 Matapos ang pagbasa mula sa Kautusan at sa Mga Propeta, nagpasabi sa kanila ang mga tagapamahala ng sinagoga, “Mga kapatid, kung mayroon kayong salitang magpapalakas ng loob ng mga tao, sabihin ninyo.” 16 Kaya't tumindig si Pablo at matapos senyasan ang mga tao upang tumahimik, ay nagsabi,
“Mga Israelita, at kayong may takot sa Diyos, makinig kayo. 17 Ang (A) Diyos ng bayang ito ng Israel ang humirang sa ating mga ninuno, at sila'y ginawa niyang malaking bansa nang sila'y nakipamayan sa Ehipto. At sa pamamagitan ng kanyang dakilang kapangyarihan, sila'y inilabas doon. 18 (B) Sa loob ng apatnapung taon ay kanyang pinagtiisan sila sa ilang. 19 Nang (C) malipol na niya ang pitong bansa sa lupain ng Canaan ay ipinamana sa kanila ang lupain, 20 sa (D) loob ng halos apatnaraan at limampung taon. Pagkatapos, sila ay binigyan niya ng mga hukom hanggang sa panahon ni propeta Samuel. 21 (E) Matapos nito'y humingi sila ng hari at ibinigay sa kanila ng Diyos ang isang lalaki mula sa lipi ni Benjamin, si Saul na anak ni Kish. Siya'y naghari sa loob ng apatnapung taon. 22 (F) Matapos alisin ng Diyos si Saul, si David naman ang pinili ng Diyos upang maghari sa kanila. Nagpatotoo ang Diyos tungkol sa kanya, na nagsasabing, ‘Natagpuan kong si David na anak ni Jesse ay isang lalaking malapit sa aking puso. Gagawin niya ang aking buong kalooban.’ 23 Mula sa kanyang salinlahi'y ipinagkaloob ng Diyos sa Israel si Jesus na Tagapagligtas, gaya ng kanyang ipinangako. 24 Bago (G) pa siya dumating ay nangaral na si Juan ng bautismo ng pagsisisi sa buong bayan ng Israel. 25 At (H) samantalang tinatapos ni Juan ang kanyang gawain, sinabi niya sa mga tao, ‘Sino ba ako sa inyong akala? Hindi ako ang Cristo. Ngunit masdan ninyo ang dumarating na kasunod ko. Hindi ako karapat-dapat kahit magkalag man lamang ng kanyang sandalyas.’
26 “Mga kapatid, mga anak ni Abraham, at sa inyong may takot sa Diyos, sa atin ipinadala ang salitang ito ng kaligtasan. 27 Sapagkat hindi nakilala ng mga mamamayan ng Jerusalem at ng kanilang mga pinuno si Jesus. Hindi rin nila nauunawaan na sa kanilang paghatol sa kanya'y tinupad nila ang mga pahayag ng mga propeta na kanilang binabasa tuwing Sabbath. 28 Bagama't (I) wala silang natagpuang sapat na dahilan upang siya'y ipapatay, hiningi pa rin nila kay Pilato na siya'y patayin. 29 Nang (J) matupad na nila ang lahat ng nasusulat tungkol sa kanya, siya'y kanilang ibinaba mula sa punongkahoy at inilibing. 30 Subalit siya'y ibinangon ng Diyos mula sa kamatayan. 31 At (K) sa loob ng maraming mga araw ay nagpakita siya sa mga sumama sa kanya mula sa Galilea hanggang sa Jerusalem. Sila ngayon ang kanyang mga saksi sa taong-bayan. 32 Kami ang nangangaral sa inyo ng Magandang Balita, na ang ipinangako ng Diyos sa ating mga ninuno, 33 ay (L) tinupad din niya sa atin na kanilang mga anak, nang kanyang muling buhayin si Jesus! Gaya ng nasusulat sa ikalawang awit,
‘Ikaw ay aking Anak,
sa araw na ito'y naging Ama mo ako.’
34 (M) Tungkol sa kanyang muling pagkabuhay at di pagkaagnas, ay ganito ang sinabi ng Diyos,
‘Ipagkakaloob ko sa inyo ang mga banal at maaasahang pangako kay David.’
35 Sinabi din niya sa iba pang bahagi, (N)
‘Hindi mo hahayaang dumanas ng pagkaagnas ang iyong Hinirang.’
36 Matapos maglingkod ni David ayon sa kalooban ng Diyos noong kanyang panahon, siya'y nahimlay at inilibing kasama ng kanyang mga ninuno. Dumanas siya ng pagkaagnas. 37 Subalit siya na muling binuhay ng Diyos ay hindi dumanas ng pagkaagnas. 38 Dahil dito'y dapat ninyong malaman, mga kapatid, na sa pamamagitan ni Jesus ay ipinahahayag sa inyo ang kapatawaran ng mga kasalanan; 39 at sa pamamagitan niya ang bawat sumasampalataya ay pinalalaya sa lahat ng bagay, pag-aaring ganap na hindi ninyo makakamit sa Kautusan ni Moises. 40 Kaya nga mag-ingat kayo, na huwag mangyari sa inyo ang sinabi ng mga propeta:
41 ‘Tingnan (O) ninyo, mga mapanlibak!
Manggilalas kayo at mapahamak;
sapagkat isasagawa ko sa inyong panahon,
ang bagay na hindi ninyo mapaniniwalaan, kahit sabihin sa inyo ng sinuman.’ ”
42 Habang palabas na sina Pablo at Bernabe, nakiusap ang mga tao na muli nilang ituro ang mga salitang ito sa susunod na Sabbath. 43 Nang matapos ang pulong sa sinagoga, sumunod kina Pablo at Bernabe ang maraming Judio at mga nahikayat sa Judaismo. Hinikayat sila ng mga apostol na magpatuloy mamuhay ayon sa kagandahang-loob ng Diyos.
44 Nang sumunod na Sabbath ay nagtipon ang halos buong lungsod upang pakinggan ang salita ng Panginoon.[a] 45 Nang makita ng mga Judio ang napakaraming tao, napuno sila ng inggit, kaya sinalungat nila ang mga sinasabi ni Pablo at nilait siya. 46 Ngunit buong tapang na sinabi nina Pablo at Bernabe, “Sa inyo muna sana kailangang ipahayag ang salita ng Diyos. Ngunit dahil itinatakwil ninyo ito, hinahatulan ninyo ang inyong sarili na hindi karapat-dapat sa buhay na walang hanggan. Kaya't sa mga Hentil na kami pupunta. 47 Ganito (P) ang iniutos sa amin ng Panginoon,
‘Inilagay kitang isang ilaw sa mga Hentil,
upang ikaw ay maghayag ng kaligtasan hanggang sa dulo ng daigdig.’ ”
48 Nang marinig ito ng mga Hentil, nagalak sila at pinarangalan ang salita ng Panginoon; at sumampalataya ang lahat ng mga itinalaga para sa buhay na walang hanggan.
49 Kaya't lumaganap ang salita ng Panginoon sa buong lupain. 50 Subalit inudyukan ng mga Judio ang mga babaing relihiyosa at iginagalang sa lipunan, gayundin ang mga pangunahing lalaki sa lungsod. Nagsimula sila ng pag-uusig laban kina Pablo at Bernabe, at sila'y pinalayas nila sa kanilang lupain. 51 Kaya't (Q) ipinagpag ng dalawa ang alikabok sa kanilang mga paa bilang saksi laban sa tagaroon, at pagkatapos ay nagtungo sa Iconio. 52 At ang mga alagad ay napuspos ng kagalakan at ng Banal na Espiritu.

Barnabas and Saul Travel to Cyprus
13 Now Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius from Cyrene, Manaen, who grew up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul were prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set Barnabas and Saul apart for me to do the work for which I called them.” 3 Then they fasted and prayed, laid their hands on them, and let them go. 4 After they had been sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went to Seleucia and from there sailed to Cyprus. 5 Arriving in Salamis, they began to preach God’s word in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John to help them.
6 They went through the whole island as far as Paphos, where they found a Jewish occult practitioner and false prophet named Bar-jesus. 7 He was associated with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, who was an intelligent man. He sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God. 8 But Elymas the occult practitioner (that is the meaning of his name) continued to oppose them and tried to turn the proconsul away from the faith. 9 But Saul, also known as[a] Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked him straight in the eye 10 and said, “You’re full of every form of deception and trickery, you son of the Devil, you enemy of all that is right! You’ll never stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord, will you? 11 The[b] Lord is against you now, and you’ll be blind and unable to see the sun for a while!” At that moment a dark mist came over him, and he went around looking for someone to lead him by the hand. 12 When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, because he was astonished at the Lord’s teaching.
Paul and Barnabas Go to Antioch in Pisidia
13 Then Paul and his men set sail from Paphos and arrived in Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them and went back to Jerusalem. 14 They left Perga and arrived in Antioch in Pisidia. On the Sabbath day, they went into the synagogue and sat down. 15 After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue leaders asked them,[c] “Brothers, if you have any message of encouragement[d] for the people, you may speak.”
16 Then Paul stood up, motioned with his hand, and said:
“Men of Israel and you who fear God, listen! 17 The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors and made them a great people during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with a public display of power[e] he led them out of there. 18 After he had put up with[f] them for 40 years in the wilderness, 19 he destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan. Then God gave their land to the Israelis[g] as an inheritance 20 for about 450 years.
“After that, he gave them judges until the time of the prophet Samuel. 21 When they demanded a king, God gave them Kish’s son Saul, from the tribe of Benjamin, for 40 years. 22 Then God[h] removed Saul[i] and made David their king, about whom he testified, ‘I have found that David, the son of Jesse, is a man after my own heart, who will carry out all my wishes.’[j] 23 It was from this man’s descendants that God, as he promised, brought to Israel a Savior, who is Jesus. 24 Before Jesus’ appearance, John had already preached a baptism of repentance to all the people in Israel. 25 When John was finishing his work, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I’m not the Messiah.[k] No, but he is coming after me, and I’m not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet.’
26 “My brothers, descendants of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, it is to us[l] that the message of this salvation has been sent. 27 For the people who live in Jerusalem and their leaders, not knowing who Jesus[m] was, condemned him and so fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath. 28 Although they found no reason to sentence him to death, they asked Pilate to have him executed. 29 When they had finished doing everything that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and placed him in a tomb. 30 But God raised him from the dead, 31 and for many days he appeared to those who had come with him to Jerusalem from Galilee. These are now his witnesses to the people. 32 We’re telling you the good news: What God promised our ancestors 33 he has fulfilled for us, their descendants, by raising Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm, ‘You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.’[n] 34 God[o] raised him from the dead, never to experience decay, as he said, ‘I’ll give you the holy promises made to David.’[p] 35 In another Psalm[q] he says, ‘You will not let your Holy One experience decay.’[r] 36 Now David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, died[s] and was buried with his ancestors, and so he experienced decay. 37 However, the man whom God raised did not experience decay.
38 “Therefore, brothers, you must understand that through him the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and that everyone who believes in him is justified and freed from everything that kept you from being justified by the Law of Moses. 40 So be careful that what the prophets said doesn’t happen to you:
41 ‘Look, you mockers!
Be amazed and die!
Since I am performing an action in your days,
one that you would not believe
even if someone told you!’”[t]
42 As Paul and Barnabas[u] were leaving, the people kept urging them to tell them the same things the next Sabbath. 43 When the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who kept talking to them and urging them to continue in the grace of God.
44 The next Sabbath almost the whole town gathered to hear the word of the Lord.[v] 45 But when the Jewish leaders[w] saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to object to the statements made by Paul and even to abuse him.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas boldly declared, “We had to speak God’s word to you first, but since you reject it and consider yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we are now going to turn to the gentiles. 47 For that is what the Lord ordered us to do: ‘I have made you a light to the gentiles to be the means of salvation to the very ends of the earth.’”[x]
48 When the gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord. Meanwhile, all who had been destined to eternal life believed, 49 and the word of the Lord began to spread throughout the whole region. 50 But the Jewish leaders[y] stirred up devout women of high social standing and the officials in the city, started a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their territory. 51 So Paul and Barnabas[z] shook the dust off their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium. 52 Meanwhile, the disciples continued to be full of joy and the Holy Spirit.

13 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.
5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.
6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:
7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.
10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.
20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
23 Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.
30 But God raised him from the dead:
31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.
35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.
42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.
50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.
51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.
52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.
