Psalm 7
Modern English Version

Psalm 7

A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite.

1 O Lord my God, in You I put my trust;
    save me from all those who persecute me, and deliver me,
2 lest they tear my soul like a lion,
    rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

3 O Lord my God, if I have done this,
    if there is iniquity in the palms of my hands,
4 if I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me,
    or have delivered my adversary without cause,
5 then may the enemy pursue my life and overtake me;
    may my enemy trample my life to the ground,
    and lay my honor in the dust. Selah

6 Arise, O Lord, in Your anger;
    rise up because of the rage of my adversaries,
    and awaken Yourself for me; You have commanded justice.
7 The congregation of the peoples surround You;
    return above it to heaven’s heights.
8     The Lord will judge the peoples;
grant me justice, O Lord, according to my righteousness,
    and according to my integrity within me.
9 May the evil of the wicked come to an end;
    may You vindicate the righteous one;
You are a righteous God who examines the minds and hearts.

10 My defense depends on God,
    who saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a righteous judge,
    and God has indignation every day.
12 If one does not repent,
    God will sharpen His sword;
    He has bent His bow and made it ready.
13 He has prepared for Himself deadly weapons;
    He makes His arrows flaming shafts.

14 The wicked man writhes in pain of iniquity;
    he has conceived mischief and brought forth falsehood.
15 He who digs a hole and hollows it
    will then fall into his own pit.
16 His mischief will return on his own head;
    his violence will descend on the crown of his own head.

17 I will thank the Lord according to His righteousness,
    and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.

2 Herre min Gud, jag flyr till dig.
    Fräls mig från alla som jagar mig,
        rädda mig!
3 (A) Annars river de min själ som lejon,
    rycker bort mig utan räddning.

4 (B) Herre min Gud,
    om jag har gjort detta,
        om jag har orätt på mina händer,
5 (C) om jag lönat min vän med ont
    eller plundrat min ovän
        utan orsak –
6 låt då fienden jaga min själ
        och hinna upp mig,
    låt honom trampa mitt liv
        till marken
    och lägga min ära[b] i stoftet. Sela

7 (D) Res dig, Herre, i din vrede,
    stå upp mot mina
        fienders raseri!
    Vakna till min hjälp[c],
        du som har kallat till dom.
8 Låt skaran av folkslag
        samlas omkring dig,
    trona åter över dem i höjden.
9 (E) Herren håller dom över folken.
    Döm mig, Herre,
        efter min rättfärdighet,
    efter den fullkomlighet
        som täcker mig.
10 (F) Gör slut på de gudlösas ondska,
        låt den rättfärdige stå fast!
    Du som prövar hjärtan och njurar[d]
        är en rättfärdig Gud.

11 (G) Min sköld är hos Gud,
    han frälser dem
        som har ärliga hjärtan.
12 (H) Gud är en rättfärdig domare,
    en Gud som visar sin vrede
        varje dag.
13 (I) Om någon inte omvänder sig
        slipar han sitt svärd,
    han spänner sin båge[e]
        och laddar den[f],
14 (J) han förbereder
        sina dödliga vapen
    och gör sina pilar brinnande.

15 (K) Se, han är dräktig med ondska,
    han går havande med olycka
        och föder lögn.
16 (L) Han gräver en grop
        och gör den djup,
    men faller själv i graven
        han grävde.
17 (M) Hans ondska slår tillbaka
        mot hans eget huvud,
    hans våld drabbar
        hans egen hjässa.

18 (N) Jag vill tacka Herren
        för hans rättfärdighet
    och lovsjunga
        Herren den Högstes namn.

Psalm 7[a]

A shiggaion[b](A) of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning Cush, a Benjamite.

1 Lord my God, I take refuge(B) in you;
    save and deliver me(C) from all who pursue me,(D)
2 or they will tear me apart like a lion(E)
    and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue(F) me.

3 Lord my God, if I have done this
    and there is guilt on my hands(G)—
4 if I have repaid my ally with evil
    or without cause(H) have robbed my foe—
5 then let my enemy pursue and overtake(I) me;
    let him trample my life to the ground(J)
    and make me sleep in the dust.[c](K)

6 Arise,(L) Lord, in your anger;
    rise up against the rage of my enemies.(M)
    Awake,(N) my God; decree justice.
7 Let the assembled peoples gather around you,
    while you sit enthroned over them on high.(O)
8     Let the Lord judge(P) the peoples.
Vindicate me, Lord, according to my righteousness,(Q)
    according to my integrity,(R) O Most High.(S)
9 Bring to an end the violence of the wicked
    and make the righteous secure—(T)
you, the righteous God(U)
    who probes minds and hearts.(V)

10 My shield[d](W) is God Most High,
    who saves the upright in heart.(X)

    a God who displays his wrath(Z) every day.
12 If he does not relent,(AA)

13 He has prepared his deadly weapons;

14 Whoever is pregnant with evil
    conceives trouble and gives birth(AE) to disillusionment.
15 Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out
    falls into the pit(AF) they have made.(AG)
16 The trouble they cause recoils on them;
    their violence comes down on their own heads.

17 I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness;(AH)
    I will sing the praises(AI) of the name of the Lord Most High.(AJ)
