9 And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.
2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.
4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?
6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.
7 And he arose, and departed to his house.
8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.
9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?
12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
14 Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.
16 No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.
17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:
21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
23 And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,
24 He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.
25 But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.
26 And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.
27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou son of David, have mercy on us.
28 And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.
29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
30 And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.
32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.
33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.
35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralytic(A)
9 So He got into a boat, crossed over, (B)and came to His own city. 2 (C)Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. (D)When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”
3 And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”
4 But Jesus, (E)knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? 6 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 7 And he arose and departed to his house.
8 Now when the multitudes saw it, they (F)marveled[a] and glorified God, who had given such power to men.
Matthew the Tax Collector(G)
9 (H)As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.
10 (I)Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with (J)tax collectors and (K)sinners?”
12 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: (L)‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, (M)but sinners, [b]to repentance.”
Jesus Is Questioned About Fasting(N)
14 Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, (O)“Why do we and the Pharisees fast [c]often, but Your disciples do not fast?”
15 And Jesus said to them, “Can (P)the [d]friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and (Q)then they will fast. 16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for [e]the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins [f]break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed(R)
18 (S)While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.” 19 So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His (T)disciples.
20 (U)And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and (V)touched the hem of His garment. 21 For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” 22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; (W)your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.
23 (X)When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw (Y)the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, 24 He said to them, (Z)“Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. 25 But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and (AA)took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the (AB)report of this went out into all that land.
Two Blind Men Healed
27 When Jesus departed from there, (AC)two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, (AD)“Son of David, have mercy on us!”
28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”
29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, (AE)“See that no one knows it.” 31 (AF)But when they had departed, they [g]spread the news about Him in all that [h]country.
A Mute Man Speaks
32 (AG)As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed. 33 And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, “It was never seen like this in Israel!”
34 But the Pharisees said, (AH)“He casts out demons by the ruler of the demons.”
The Compassion of Jesus(AI)
35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, (AJ)teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease [i]among the people. 36 (AK)But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were [j]weary and scattered, (AL)like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, (AM)“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 (AN)Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Heilung eines Gelähmten
9 Und er trat in das Schiff, fuhr hinüber und kam in seine Stadt[a]. 2 Und siehe, da brachten sie einen Gelähmten zu ihm, der auf einem Bett lag. Und als Jesus ihren Glauben sah, sprach er zu dem Gelähmten: Sei getrost, mein Sohn, deine Sünden sind dir vergeben!
3 Und siehe, etliche der Schriftgelehrten sprachen bei sich selbst: Dieser lästert!
4 Und da Jesus ihre Gedanken sah, sprach er: Warum denkt ihr Böses in euren Herzen? 5 Was ist denn leichter, zu sagen: Deine Sünden sind dir vergeben, oder zu sagen: Steh auf und geh umher? 6 Damit ihr aber wißt, daß des Menschen Sohn Vollmacht hat, auf Erden Sünden zu vergeben - sprach er zu dem Gelähmten -: Steh auf, nimm dein Bett und geh heim! 7 Und er stand auf und ging heim. 8 Als aber die Volksmenge das sah, verwunderte sie sich und pries Gott, der solche Vollmacht den Menschen gegeben hatte.
Berufung des Matthäus
9 Und als Jesus von da weiter ging, sah er einen Menschen an der Zollstätte sitzen, der hieß Matthäus; und er spricht zu ihm: Folge mir nach! Und er stand auf und folgte ihm nach.
10 Und es geschah, als er in dem Haus zu Tisch lag, siehe, da kamen viele Zöllner und Sünder und lagen mit Jesus und seinen Jüngern zu Tisch. 11 Und als die Pharisäer es sahen, sprachen sie zu seinen Jüngern: Warum ißt euer Meister mit den Zöllnern und Sündern? 12 Jesus aber, als er es hörte, sprach zu ihnen: Die Starken bedürfen des Arztes nicht, sondern die Kranken. 13 Geht aber hin und lernt, was das heißt: „Ich will Barmherzigkeit und nicht Opfer[b].“ Denn ich bin nicht gekommen, Gerechte zu berufen, sondern Sünder zur Buße.
Vom Fasten. Gleichnisse vom neuen Flicken und vom neuen Wein
14 Da kamen die Jünger des Johannes zu ihm und sprachen: Warum fasten wir und die Pharisäer so viel, deine Jünger aber fasten nicht? 15 Und Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Können die Hochzeitleute[c] trauern, solange der Bräutigam bei ihnen ist? Es werden aber Tage kommen, wo der Bräutigam von ihnen genommen sein wird, und dann werden sie fasten. 16 Niemand aber setzt einen Flicken von ungewalktem[d] Tuch auf ein altes Kleid, denn der Flicken[e] reißt von dem Kleid, und der Riß wird schlimmer. 17 Man füllt auch nicht neuen Wein in alte Schläuche, sonst zerreißen die Schläuche und der Wein wird verschüttet und die Schläuche verderben; sondern man füllt neuen Wein in neue Schläuche, so bleiben beide miteinander erhalten.
Auferweckung der Tocher des Jairus und Heilung einer blutflüssigen Frau
18 Und als er dies mit ihnen redete, siehe, da kam ein Vorsteher[f], fiel vor ihm nieder und sprach: Meine Tochter ist eben gestorben; aber komm und leg deine Hand auf sie, so wird sie leben! 19 Und Jesus stand auf und folgte ihm mit seinen Jüngern.
20 Und siehe, eine Frau, die zwölf Jahre blutflüssig war, trat von hinten herzu und rührte den Saum[g] seines Kleides[h] an. 21 Denn sie sagte bei sich selbst: Wenn ich nur sein Kleid anrühre, so bin ich geheilt[i]! 22 Jesus aber wandte sich um, sah sie und sprach: Sei getrost, meine Tochter, dein Glaube hat dich geheilt[j]! Und die Frau war geheilt von jener Stunde an.
23 Als nun Jesus in das Haus des Obersten kam und die Pfeifer und das Getümmel sah, 24 sprach er zu ihnen: Entfernt euch! Denn das Mädchen ist nicht gestorben, sondern es schläft. Und sie verlachten ihn. 25 Als aber die Volksmenge hinausgetrieben war, ging er hinein und faßte sie bei der Hand; und das Mädchen stand auf. 26 Und das Gerücht davon verbreitete sich in jener ganzen Gegend.
Heilung von zwei Blinden und einem Bessessenen
27 Und als Jesus von dort weiterging, folgten ihm zwei Blinde nach, die schrieen und sprachen: Du Sohn Davids, erbarme dich unser! 28 Als er nun ins Haus kam, traten die Blinden zu ihm. Und Jesus fragte sie: Glaubt ihr, daß ich dies tun kann? Sie sprachen zu ihm: Ja, Herr! 29 Da rührte er ihre Augen an und sprach: Euch geschehe nach eurem Glauben! 30 Und ihre Augen wurden geöffnet. Und Jesus ermahnte sie[k] ernstlich und sprach: Seht zu, daß es niemand erfährt! 31 Sie aber gingen hinaus und machten ihn in jener ganzen Gegend bekannt.
32 Als sie aber hinausgingen, siehe, da brachte man einen Menschen zu ihm, der stumm und besessen war. 33 Und nachdem der Dämon ausgetrieben war, redete der Stumme. Und die Volksmenge verwunderte sich und sprach: So etwas ist noch nie in Israel gesehen worden! 34 Die Pharisäer aber sagten: Durch den Obersten der Dämonen treibt er die Dämonen aus!
Jesu Mitleid mit der Volksmenge
35 Und Jesus durchzog alle Städte und Dörfer, lehrte in ihren Synagogen, predigte das Evangelium von dem Reich und heilte jede Krankheit und jedes Gebrechen im Volk.
36 Als er aber die Volksmenge sah, empfand er Mitleid mit ihnen, weil sie ermattet[l] und vernachlässigt[m] waren wie Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben. 37 Da sprach er zu seinen Jüngern: Die Ernte ist groß, aber der Arbeiter sind wenige. 38 Darum bittet den Herrn der Ernte, daß er Arbeiter in seine Ernte aussende!
