The Authority of Jesus

²⁸ And when Jesus finished these sayings, ^(A)the crowds were astonished at his teaching, ^29 (B)for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

³⁶ “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” ³⁷ And he said to him, ^(A)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ³⁸ This is the great and first commandment. ³⁹ And ^(B)a second is like it: ^(C)You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

³ Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is ^(A)born ^(B)again^[a] he cannot ^(C)see the kingdom of God.”

³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(A)everyone who practices sin is a slave^[a] to sin.

⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, ^(A)I am.”
