⁴⁶ If you love only the people who love you, you will get no reward. Even the tax collectors do that.

⁴⁷ And if you are nice only to your friends, you are no better than other people. Even those who don’t know God are nice to their friends.

¹¹ When the Pharisees saw this, they asked Jesus’ followers, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

¹⁹ The Son of Man came, eating and drinking, and people say, ‘Look at him! He eats too much and drinks too much wine, and he is a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved to be right by what she does.”

¹⁷ If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen to the church, then treat him like a person who does not believe in God or like a tax collector.
