Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness(A)
4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a](B) by the devil.(C) 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights,(D) he was hungry. 3 The tempter(E) came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God,(F) tell these stones to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”(G)
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city(H) and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,”(I) he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”(J)
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]”(K)
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan!(L) For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]”(M)
11 Then the devil left him,(N) and angels came and attended him.(O)
Jesus Begins to Preach
12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison,(P) he withdrew to Galilee.(Q) 13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum,(R) which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— 14 to fulfill(S) what was said through the prophet Isaiah:
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”[f](T)
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven(U) has come near.”
Jesus Calls His First Disciples(V)
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee,(W) he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter(X) and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,”(Y) Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.(Z)
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John.(AA) They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.(AB)
Jesus Heals the Sick
23 Jesus went throughout Galilee,(AC) teaching in their synagogues,(AD) proclaiming the good news(AE) of the kingdom,(AF) and healing every disease and sickness among the people.(AG) 24 News about him spread all over Syria,(AH) and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed,(AI) those having seizures,(AJ) and the paralyzed;(AK) and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis,[g] Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.(AL)

Jezus wordt in de woestijn door de duivel uitgedaagd
4 Daarna stuurde de Heilige Geest Jezus naar de woestijn. Daar moest Jezus door de duivel op de proef worden gesteld. 2 Hij bleef 40 dagen in de woestijn. Al die tijd at Jezus niets. Tenslotte kreeg Hij honger.
3 Toen kwam de duivel. Hij zei tegen Hem: "Als U Gods Zoon bent, zeg dan tegen deze stenen dat ze in broden moeten veranderen." 4 Maar Jezus antwoordde: "In de Boeken staat: 'Je kan niet alleen van brood leven. Alles wat God zegt, heb je óók nodig om te leven.' "
5 Toen nam de duivel Hem mee naar Jeruzalem. Daar zette hij Hem op de rand van het dak van de tempel. 6 En hij zei tegen Jezus: "Als U Gods Zoon bent, spring dan naar beneden. Er staat toch in de Boeken: 'God zal zijn engelen de opdracht geven dat ze U op hun handen moeten dragen. Dan zult U uw voeten niet aan een steen stoten.' " 7 Jezus antwoordde: "Maar er staat ook in de Boeken: 'Je mag je Heer God niet uitdagen.' "
8 Daarna nam de duivel Jezus mee naar een hoge berg. Vanaf die berg liet hij Jezus alle koninkrijken van de wereld zien, met al hun macht en rijkdom. 9 En hij zei tegen Jezus: "Dat geef ik allemaal aan U, als U voor mij neerknielt en mij aanbidt!" 10 Toen zei Jezus: "Ga weg, duivel! Er staat toch ook in de Boeken: 'Aanbid je Heer God en dien alleen Hém.' "
11 Toen liet de duivel Hem met rust. En er kwamen engelen om Hem te dienen.
Jezus gaat in Kapernaüm wonen
12 Toen Jezus hoorde dat Johannes gevangen was genomen,[a] ging Hij terug naar Galilea. 13 Hij vertrok uit Nazaret en ging in Kapernaüm wonen. Kapernaüm ligt aan het meer, in het gebied van de stammen van Zebulon en Naftali. 14 Zo zou gebeuren wat de profeet Jesaja vroeger al had gezegd: 15 'Land van Zebulon en land van Naftali, aan het meer, aan de andere kant van de Jordaan, in het Galilea van de volken,[b] luister! 16 Het volk dat in het donker leeft, heeft een groot licht gezien. Er is een licht gaan schijnen voor de mensen die vlak voor de poorten van de dood leven.'
17 Vanaf dat moment begon Jezus aan de mensen te vertellen: "Ga leven zoals God het wil, want het Koninkrijk van God komt bijna."
Jezus kiest zijn leerlingen uit
18 Op een keer liep Jezus langs het meer van Galilea. Daar zag Hij twee broers: Simon, die ook Petrus wordt genoemd, en Andreas. Ze gooiden een visnet uit in zee, want ze waren vissers. 19 Hij zei tegen hen: "Volg Mij. Dan maak Ik van jullie vissers van mensen." 20 Ze lieten onmiddellijk hun visnetten liggen en gingen met Hem mee.
21 Verderop zag hij nog twee broers: Jakobus en Johannes, zonen van Zebedeüs. Ze waren in hun boot met hun vader de visnetten aan het herstellen. Jezus riep hen. 22 Ze lieten onmiddellijk hun boot en hun vader achter en gingen met Hem mee.
23 Jezus trok in heel Galilea rond. Hij gaf les in de synagogen. Hij vertelde er het goede nieuws van het Koninkrijk. Ook genas Hij de mensen van al hun ziekten en kwalen. 24 Tot in Syrië hoorden de mensen over Hem. En de mensen brachten iedereen naar Hem toe die erg ziek was of pijn had. Ook mensen in wie duivelse geesten zaten, mensen met epileptische aanvallen en verlamde mensen. En Hij maakte hen gezond. 25 Grote groepen mensen liepen achter Hem aan: mensen uit Galilea, de Dekapolis (= 'Tien-stedengebied'), Jeruzalem, Judea en het gebied aan de andere kant van de Jordaan.

La tentación de Jesús
4 Entonces Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto para ser tentado por el diablo. 2 Y después de haber ayunado cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, tuvo hambre. 3 El tentador se acercó y le dijo:
—Si eres Hijo de Dios, di que estas piedras se conviertan en pan.
4 Pero él respondió y dijo:
—Escrito está: No solo de pan vivirá el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios[a].
5 Entonces el diablo lo llevó a la santa ciudad, lo puso de pie sobre el pináculo del templo, 6 y le dijo:
—Si eres Hijo de Dios, échate abajo, porque escrito está:
A sus ángeles mandará acerca de ti, y en sus manos te llevarán,
de modo que nunca tropieces
con tu pie en piedra[b].
7 Jesús le dijo:
—Además está escrito: No pondrás a prueba al Señor tu Dios[c]. 8 Otra vez el diablo lo llevó a un monte muy alto, y le mostró todos los reinos del mundo y su gloria. 9 Y le dijo:
—Todo esto te daré, si postrado me adoras.
10 Entonces Jesús le dijo:
—Vete, Satanás, porque escrito está:
Al Señor tu Dios adorarás
y a él solo servirás[d].
11 Entonces el diablo lo dejó y, he aquí, los ángeles vinieron y le servían.
Jesús inicia su ministerio en Galilea
12 Y cuando Jesús oyó que Juan había sido encarcelado, regresó a Galilea. 13 Y, habiendo dejado Nazaret, fue y habitó en Capernaúm, ciudad junto al mar en la región de Zabulón y Neftalí, 14 para que se cumpliera lo dicho por medio del profeta Isaías, diciendo:
15 Tierra de Zabulón y tierra de Neftalí,
camino del mar, al otro lado del Jordán, Galilea de los gentiles.
16 El pueblo que moraba en tinieblas
vio una gran luz.
A los que moraban en región y sombra
de muerte,
la luz les amaneció[e].
17 Desde entonces Jesús comenzó a predicar y a decir: “¡Arrepiéntanse, porque el reino de los cielos se ha acercado[f]!”.
Jesús llama a los primeros discípulos
18 Mientras andaba junto al mar de Galilea, Jesús vio a dos hermanos: a Simón, que es llamado Pedro, y a su hermano Andrés. Estaban echando la red en el mar, porque eran pescadores. 19 Y les dijo: “Vengan en pos de mí, y los haré pescadores de hombres”. 20 Y de inmediato ellos dejaron sus redes y lo siguieron.
21 Y pasando más adelante, vio a otros dos hermanos, Jacobo hijo de Zebedeo y Juan su hermano, en la barca con su padre Zebedeo, arreglando sus redes. Los llamó, 22 y en seguida ellos dejaron la barca y a su padre, y lo siguieron.
Jesús predica en Galilea
23 Jesús recorría toda Galilea enseñando en las sinagogas de ellos, predicando el evangelio del reino, y sanando toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo. 24 Su fama corrió por toda Siria, y le trajeron todos los que tenían males: los que padecían diversas enfermedades y dolores, los endemoniados, los lunáticos y los paralíticos. Y él los sanó. 25 Le siguieron grandes multitudes de Galilea, de Decápolis, de Jerusalén, de Judea y del otro lado del Jordán.
