3 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

⁴^(A)John appeared, baptizing in ^(B)the wilderness and proclaiming ^(C)a baptism of ^(D)repentance ^(E)for the forgiveness of sins.

⁴John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

²during ^(A)the high priesthood of Annas and ^(B)Caiaphas, ^(C)the word of God came to ^(D)John the son of Zechariah in ^(E)the wilderness.

²Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
