The First Lord’s Supper

²⁶ As they were eating,^(A) Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to the disciples,^(B) and said, “Take and eat it; this is my body.”^(C)

⁵² The tombs were also opened^(A) and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised.

⁵⁸ He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body. Then Pilate ordered that it^[a] be released.

²² As^(A) they were eating, he took bread,^(B) blessed and broke^(C) it, gave it to them,^(D) and said, “Take it; this is my body.”^(E)

⁴³ Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Sanhedrin who was himself looking forward^(A) to the kingdom of God,^(B) came and boldly went to Pilate^(C) and asked for Jesus’s body.^(D)

Fear God

⁴ “I say to you, my friends,^(A) don’t fear^(B) those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more.

¹⁹ And he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “This is my body,^(A) which is given for you. Do this in remembrance ^(B) of me.”

⁵² He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body.

⁵⁵ The women^(A) who had come with him from Galilee followed along and observed the tomb and how his body was placed.

Jesus’s Side Pierced

³¹ Since it was the preparation day,^(A) the Jews did not want the bodies^(B) to remain on the cross^(C) on the Sabbath^(D) (for that Sabbath was a special^[a] day). They requested that Pilate have the men’s legs broken and that their bodies be taken away.^(E)
