The Great Commandment
34 (A)But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced (B)the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 (C)And one of them, (D)a lawyer, asked him a question (E)to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, (F)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And (G)a second is like it: (H)You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 (I)On these two commandments depend (J)all the Law and the Prophets.”
Whose Son Is the Christ?
41 (K)Now while the Pharisees (L)were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, 42 saying, “What do you think about (M)the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, (N)“The son of David.” 43 He said to them, “How is it then that David, (O)in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,
44 (P)“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies under your feet”’?
Seven Woes to the Scribes and Pharisees
23 Then Jesus (T)said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 (U)“The scribes and the Pharisees (V)sit on Moses' seat, 3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, (W)but not the works they do. (X)For they preach, but do not practice. 4 (Y)They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear,[a] and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. 5 (Z)They do all their deeds (AA)to be seen by others. For they make (AB)their phylacteries broad and (AC)their fringes long, 6 and they (AD)love the place of honor at feasts and (AE)the best seats in the synagogues 7 and (AF)greetings in (AG)the marketplaces and being called (AH)rabbi[b] by others. 8 (AI)But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are (AJ)all brothers.[c] 9 (AK)And call no man your father on earth, for (AL)you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, (AM)the Christ. 11 (AN)The greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 (AO)Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
