Moses and Elijah Appear with Jesus(A)
17 After six days Yeshua took Peter, James, and John (the brother of James) and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone.
2 Yeshua’s appearance changed in front of them. His face became as bright as the sun and his clothes as white as light. 3 Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them and were talking with Yeshua.
4 Peter said to Yeshua, “Lord, it’s good that we’re here. If you want, I’ll put up three tents here—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 He was still speaking when a bright cloud overshadowed them. Then a voice came out of the cloud and said, “This is my Son, whom I love and with whom I am pleased. Listen to him!”
6 The disciples were terrified when they heard this and fell facedown on the ground. 7 But Yeshua touched them and said, “Get up, and don’t be afraid!” 8 As they raised their heads, they saw no one but Yeshua.
9 On their way down the mountain, Yeshua ordered them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen. Wait until the Son of Man has been brought back to life.”
10 So the disciples asked him, “Why do the experts in Moses’ Teachings say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Yeshua answered, “Elijah is coming and will put everything in order again. 12 Actually, I can guarantee that Elijah has already come. Yet, people treated him as they pleased because they didn’t recognize him. In the same way they’re going to make the Son of Man suffer.”
13 Then the disciples understood that he was talking about John the Baptizer.
Jesus Cures a Demon-Possessed Boy(B)
14 When they came to a crowd, a man came up to Yeshua, knelt in front of him, 15 and said, “Sir, have mercy on my son. He suffers from seizures. Often he falls into fire or water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t cure him.”
17 Yeshua replied, “You unbelieving and corrupt generation! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to me!”
18 Yeshua ordered the demon to come out of the boy. At that moment the boy was cured.
19 Then the disciples came to Yeshua privately and asked, “Why couldn’t we force the demon out of the boy?”
20 He told them, “Because you have so little faith. I can guarantee this truth: If your faith is the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”[a]
Jesus Again Foretells That He Will Die and Come Back to Life(C)
22 While they were traveling together in Galilee, Yeshua told them, “The Son of Man will be betrayed and handed over to people. 23 They will kill him, but on the third day he will be brought back to life.” Then the disciples became very sad.
Paying the Temple Tax
24 When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came to Peter. They asked him, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”
25 “Certainly,” he answered.
Peter went into the house. Before he could speak, Yeshua asked him, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the world collect fees or taxes? Is it from their family members or from other people?”
26 “From other people,” Peter answered.
Yeshua said to him, “Then the family members are exempt. 27 However, so that we don’t create a scandal, go to the sea and throw in a hook. Take the first fish that you catch. Open its mouth, and you will find a coin. Give that coin to them for you and me.”

Even His clothes became as white as the light.(C) 3 Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
4 Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it’s good for us to be here! If You want, I will make[b] three tabernacles here: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”(D)
5 While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud covered[c] them, and a voice from the cloud said:
This is My beloved Son.
I take delight in Him.
Listen to Him!(E)
6 When the disciples(F) heard it, they fell facedown and were terrified.
7 Then Jesus came up, touched them, and said, “Get up; don’t be afraid.”(G) 8 When they looked up they saw no one except Him[d]—Jesus alone. 9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them,(H) “Don’t tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised[e] from the dead.”
10 So the disciples questioned Him, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”(I)
11 “Elijah is coming[f] and will restore everything,” He replied.[g](J) 12 “But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”[h](K) 13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist.
The Power of Faith over a Demon
14 When they reached the crowd,(L) a man approached and knelt down before Him. 15 “Lord,” he said, “have mercy on my son, because he has seizures[i] and suffers severely. He often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 I brought him to Your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.”(M)
17 Jesus replied, “You unbelieving and rebellious[j] generation! How long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”(N) 18 Then Jesus rebuked the demon,[k] and it[l] came out of him,(O) and from that moment[m] the boy was healed.
19 Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
20 “Because of your little faith,” He[n] told them. “For I assure you: If you have faith the size of[o] a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.(P) Nothing will be impossible for you.(Q) [21 However, this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting.]”[p]
The Second Prediction of His Death
22 As(R) they were meeting[q] in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men. 23 They will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised up.” And they were deeply distressed.
Paying the Temple Tax
24 When they came to Capernaum, those who collected the double-drachma tax[r] approached Peter and said, “Doesn’t your Teacher pay the double-drachma tax?”(S)
25 “Yes,” he said.
When he went into the house, Jesus spoke to him first,[s] “What do you think, Simon? Who do earthly kings collect tariffs or taxes from? From their sons or from strangers?”[t](T)
26 “From strangers,” he said.[u]
“Then the sons are free,” Jesus told him. 27 “But, so we won’t offend them, go to the sea, cast in a fishhook, and take the first fish that you catch. When you open its mouth you’ll find a coin.[v] Take it and give it to them for Me and you.”(U)

His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, [a]let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
5 (C)While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, (D)“This is My beloved Son, (E)in whom I am well pleased. A Boy Is Healed(O)
14 (P)And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is [c]an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”
17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O [d]faithless and (Q)perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” 18 And Jesus (R)rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your [e]unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, (S)if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 [f]However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Jesus Again Predicts His Death and Resurrection(T)

And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from (X)strangers?”
26 Peter said to Him, “From strangers.”
Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. 27 Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a [j]piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”

17 (A)Sei giorni dopo Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni suo fratello, e li condusse sopra un alto monte, in disparte. 2 E fu trasfigurato davanti a loro; la sua faccia risplendette come il sole e i suoi vestiti divennero candidi come la luce. 3 E apparvero loro Mosè ed Elia che stavano conversando con lui. 4 E Pietro prese a dire a Gesù: «Signore, è bene che stiamo qui; se vuoi, farò qui[a] tre tende: una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia». 5 Mentre egli parlava ancora, una nuvola luminosa li coprì con la sua ombra, ed ecco una voce dalla nuvola che diceva: «Questo è il mio Figlio diletto, nel quale mi sono compiaciuto; ascoltatelo». 6 I discepoli, udito ciò, caddero con la faccia a terra e furono presi da gran timore. 7 Ma Gesù, avvicinatosi, li toccò e disse: «Alzatevi, non temete». 8 Ed essi, alzati gli occhi, non videro nessuno, se non Gesù stesso, solo[b].

Guarigione di un ragazzo indemoniato
14 (B)Quando tornarono tra la folla, un uomo gli si avvicinò, gettandosi in ginocchio davanti a lui, 15 e gli disse: «Signore, abbi pietà di mio figlio, perché è epilettico[c] e soffre molto; spesso, infatti, cade nel fuoco e spesso nell’acqua. 16 L’ho condotto dai tuoi discepoli, ma non l’hanno potuto guarire». 17 Gesù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa! Fino a quando sarò con voi? Fino a quando vi sopporterò? Portatelo qui da me». 18 Gesù sgridò il demonio e quello uscì dal ragazzo, che da quel momento fu guarito.
19 Allora i discepoli, accostatisi a Gesù in disparte, gli chiesero: «Perché non l’abbiamo potuto cacciare noi?» 20 Egli[d] rispose loro: «A causa della vostra poca fede[e]; perché in verità io vi dico che se avete fede quanto un granello di senape, potrete dire a questo monte: “Passa da qui a là”, e passerà; e niente vi sarà impossibile. 21 [Questa specie di demòni non esce se non per mezzo della preghiera e del digiuno».]
Gesù predice per la seconda volta la Passione
22 (C)Mentre essi erano riuniti insieme in Galilea[f], Gesù disse loro: «Il Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini; 23 essi lo uccideranno e il terzo giorno risusciterà». Ed essi ne furono molto rattristati.
Gesù paga la tassa nel tempio
24 (D)Quando furono giunti a Capernaum, quelli che riscuotevano le didramme[g] si avvicinarono a Pietro e dissero: «Il vostro maestro non paga le didramme?» 25 Egli rispose: «Sì». Quando fu entrato in casa, Gesù lo prevenne e gli disse: «Che te ne pare, Simone? I re della terra da chi prendono i tributi o l’imposta? Dai loro figli o dagli stranieri?» 26 «Dagli stranieri», rispose Pietro. Gesù gli disse: «I figli, dunque, ne sono esenti. 27 Ma, per non scandalizzarli, va’ al mare, getta l’amo e prendi il primo pesce che verrà su. Aprigli la bocca: troverai uno statère[h]. Prendilo e dàllo loro per me e per te».
