15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, (A)“You are (B)the Christ, (C)the Son of (D)the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, (E)“Blessed are you, (F)Simon Bar-Jonah! For (G)flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, (H)but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, (I)you are Peter, and (J)on this rock[a] I will build my church, and (K)the gates of (L)hell[b] shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you (M)the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and (N)whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed[c] in heaven.”

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 And (B)they devoted themselves to the apostles' (C)teaching and the (D)fellowship, to (E)the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[a] came upon every soul, and (F)many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and (G)had all things in common. 45 And (H)they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, (I)attending the temple (J)together and (K)breaking bread in their homes, they received their food (L)with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and (M)having favor with all the people. And the Lord (N)added to their number (O)day by day those who (P)were being saved.

(C)What prevents me from being baptized?”[a] 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, (D)the Spirit of the Lord (E)carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing.

There is (A)one body and (B)one Spirit—just as you were called to the one (C)hope that belongs to your call— (D)one Lord, (E)one faith, (F)one baptism, (G)one God and Father of all, (H)who is over all and through all and in all. But (I)grace was given (J)to each one of us (K)according to the measure of Christ's gift. Therefore it says,

(L)“When he ascended on high (M)he led a host of captives,
and he gave gifts to men.”[a]

((N)In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into (O)the lower regions, the earth?[b] 10 He who descended is the one who also (P)ascended (Q)far above all the heavens, that he might (R)fill all things.) 11 And (S)he gave the (T)apostles, the prophets, the (U)evangelists, the (V)shepherds[c] and teachers,[d] 12 (W)to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for (X)building up (Y)the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to (Z)the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, (AA)to mature manhood,[e] to the measure of the stature of (AB)the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, (AC)tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in (AD)deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, (AE)speaking the truth in love, we are to (AF)grow up in every way into him who is (AG)the head, into Christ, 16 (AH)from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, (AI)when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Qualifications for Overseers

The saying is (A)trustworthy: If anyone aspires to (B)the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore (C)an overseer[a] must be above reproach, (D)the husband of one wife,[b] (E)sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, (F)hospitable, (G)able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but (H)gentle, not quarrelsome, (I)not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity (J)keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for (K)God's church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may (L)become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by (M)outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into (N)a snare of the devil.

Qualifications for Deacons

(O)Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued,[c] (P)not addicted to much wine, (Q)not greedy for dishonest gain. They must (R)hold the mystery of the faith with (S)a clear conscience. 10 And (T)let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. 11 (U)Their wives likewise[d] must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, (V)faithful in all things. 12 Let deacons each be (W)the husband of one wife, (X)managing their children and their own households well. 13 For (Y)those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
