Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ

^13 (A)Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” ¹⁴ And they said, “Some say ^(B)John the Baptist, others say ^(C)Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” ¹⁵ He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” ¹⁶ Simon Peter replied, ^(D)“You are ^(E)the Christ, ^(F)the Son of ^(G)the living God.” ¹⁷ And Jesus answered him, ^(H)“Blessed are you, ^(I)Simon Bar-Jonah! For ^(J)flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, ^(K)but my Father who is in heaven. ¹⁸ And I tell you, ^(L)you are Peter, and ^(M)on this rock^[a] I will build my church, and ^(N)the gates of ^(O)hell^[b] shall not prevail against it. ¹⁹ I will give you ^(P)the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and ^(Q)whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed^[c] in heaven.” ^20 (R)Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ

^27 (A)And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” ²⁸ And they told him, ^(B)“John the Baptist; and others say, ^(C)Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” ²⁹ And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, ^(D)“You are ^(E)the Christ.” ^30 (F)And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him.

²⁴ So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are ^(A)the Christ, ^(B)tell us plainly.” ²⁵ Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. ^(C)The works that I do ^(D)in my Father's name bear witness about me, ²⁶ but ^(E)you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. ^27 (F)My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. ^28 (G)I give them eternal life, and ^(H)they will never perish, and ^(I)no one will snatch them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, ^(J)who has given them to me,^{[a] (K)}is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of ^(L)the Father's hand. ^30 (M)I and the Father are one.”
