Healing Many People

29 Moving on from there,(A) Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee.(B) He went up on a mountain and sat there, 30 and large crowds came to him, including the lame, the blind, the crippled, those unable to speak, and many others. They put them at his feet, and he healed them. 31 So the crowd was amazed when they saw those unable to speak talking, the crippled restored, the lame walking, and the blind seeing,(C) and they gave glory to the God of Israel.

The Third Prediction of His Death

31 Then(A) he took the Twelve aside and told them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem.(B) Everything that is written(C) through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.(D) 32 For he will be handed over to the Gentiles,(E) and he will be mocked,(F) insulted, spit(G) on; 33 and after they flog him, they will kill him, and he will rise on the third day.”(H)

The Finished Work of Jesus

28 After(A) this, when Jesus knew that everything was now finished(B) that the Scripture might be fulfilled, he said, “I’m thirsty.”(C) 29 A jar full of sour wine was sitting there; so they fixed a sponge full of sour wine on a hyssop branch(D) and held it up to his mouth.

30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished.”(E) Then bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.(F)

Resurrection Morning

16 When(A) the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene,(B) Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they could go and anoint him. Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week,(C) they went to the tomb(D) at sunrise. They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb for us?” Looking up, they noticed that the stone—which was very large—had been rolled away.

When(E) they entered the tomb,(F) they saw a young man(G) dressed(H) in a white(I) robe sitting on the right side; they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he told them. “You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth,(J) who was crucified. He has risen!(K) He is not here. See the place where they put him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter,(L) ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee;(M) you will see him there just as he told you.’”

The Justified Are Reconciled

For while we were still helpless, at the right time,(A) Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. But God proves(B) his own love for us(C) in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. How much more then, since we have now been justified by his blood,(D) will we be saved through him from wrath.(E) 10 For if, while we were enemies,(F) we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.(G) 11 And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.(H)

Christ’s Humility and Exaltation

Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,

who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God(A)
as something to be exploited.[a]
Instead he emptied himself(B)
by assuming the form of a servant,(C)
taking on the likeness of humanity.(D)
And when he had come as a man,
he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.(E)
For this reason God highly exalted him(F)
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow(G)
in heaven(H) and on earth
and under the earth(I)
11 and every tongue(J) will confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory(K) of God the Father.
