A Story About Planting Seed
13 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Large crowds gathered around him. So Jesus got into a boat and sat, while the people stayed on the shore. 3 Then Jesus used stories to teach them many things. He said: “A farmer went out to plant his seed. 4 While he was planting, some seed fell by the road. The birds came and ate all that seed. 5 Some seed fell on rocky ground, where there wasn’t enough dirt. That seed grew very fast, because the ground was not deep. 6 But when the sun rose, the plants dried up because they did not have deep roots. 7 Some other seed fell among thorny weeds. The weeds grew and choked the good plants. 8 Some other seed fell on good ground where it grew and became grain. Some plants made 100 times more grain. Other plants made 60 times more grain, and some made 30 times more grain. 9 Let those with ears use them and listen!”
Why Jesus Used Stories to Teach
10 The followers came to Jesus and asked, “Why do you use stories to teach the people?”
11 Jesus answered, “Only you can know the secret truths about the kingdom of heaven. Other people cannot know these secret truths. 12 The person who has something will be given more. And he will have all he needs. But the person who does not have much, even what he has will be taken from him. 13 This is why I use stories to teach the people: They see, but they don’t really see. They hear, but they don’t really understand. 14 So they show that the things Isaiah said about them are true:
‘You will listen and listen, but you will not understand.
You will look and look, but you will not learn.
15 For these people have become stubborn.
They do not hear with their ears.
And they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might really understand
what they see with their eyes
and hear with their ears.
They might really understand in their minds.
If they did this, they would come back to me and be forgiven.’ Isaiah 6:9-10
16 But you are blessed. You understand the things you see with your eyes. And you understand the things you hear with your ears. 17 I tell you the truth. Many prophets and good people wanted to see the things that you now see. But they did not see them. And many prophets and good people wanted to hear the things that you now hear. But they did not hear them.
Jesus Explains the Seed Story
18 “So listen to the meaning of that story about the farmer. 19 What is the seed that fell by the road? That seed is like the person who hears the teaching about the kingdom but does not understand it. The Evil One comes and takes away the things that were planted in that person’s heart. 20 And what is the seed that fell on rocky ground? That seed is like the person who hears the teaching and quickly accepts it with joy. 21 But he does not let the teaching go deep into his life. He keeps it only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the teaching he accepted, then he quickly gives up. 22 And what is the seed that fell among the thorny weeds? That seed is like the person who hears the teaching but lets worries about this life and love of money stop that teaching from growing. So the teaching does not produce fruit[a] in that person’s life. 23 But what is the seed that fell on the good ground? That seed is like the person who hears the teaching and understands it. That person grows and produces fruit, sometimes 100 times more, sometimes 60 times more, and sometimes 30 times more.”
A Story About Wheat and Weeds
24 Then Jesus told them another story. He said, “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who planted good seed in his field. 25 That night, when everyone was asleep, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat. Then the enemy went away. 26 Later, the wheat grew and heads of grain grew on the wheat plants. But at the same time the weeds also grew. 27 Then the man’s servants came to him and said, ‘You planted good seed in your field. Where did the weeds come from?’ 28 The man answered, ‘An enemy planted weeds.’ The servants asked, ‘Do you want us to pull up the weeds?’ 29 The man answered, ‘No, because when you pull up the weeds, you might also pull up the wheat. 30 Let the weeds and the wheat grow together until the harvest time. At harvest time I will tell the workers this: First gather the weeds and tie them together to be burned. Then gather the wheat and bring it to my barn.’”
Stories of Mustard Seed and Yeast
31 Then Jesus told another story: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed. A man plants the seed in his field. 32 That seed is the smallest of all seeds. But when it grows, it is one of the largest garden plants. It becomes a tree, big enough for the wild birds to come and make nests in its branches.”
33 Then Jesus told another story: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman mixes into a big bowl of flour. The yeast makes all the dough rise.”
34 Jesus used stories to tell all these things to the people. He always used stories to teach people. 35 This is as the prophet said:
“I will speak using stories;
I will tell things that have been secret since the world was made.” Psalm 78:2
Jesus Explains About the Wheat and Weeds
36 Then Jesus left the crowd and went into the house. His followers came to him and said, “Explain to us the meaning of the story about the weeds in the field.”
37 Jesus answered, “The man who planted the good seed in the field is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world. And the good seed are all of God’s children in the kingdom. The weeds are those people who belong to the Evil One. 39 And the enemy who planted the bad seed is the devil. The harvest time is the end of the age. And the workers who gather are God’s angels.
40 “The weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire. It will be this way at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels. They will gather out of his kingdom all who cause sin and all who do evil. 42 The angels will throw them into the blazing furnace. There the people will cry and grind their teeth with pain. 43 Then the good people will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let those with ears use them and listen!
Stories of a Treasure and a Pearl
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. One day a man found the treasure, and then he hid it in the field again. The man was very happy to find the treasure. He went and sold everything that he owned to buy that field.
45 “Also, the kingdom of heaven is like a man looking for fine pearls. 46 One day he found a very valuable pearl. The man went and sold everything he had to buy that pearl.
A Story of a Fishing Net
47 “Also, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was put into the lake. The net caught many different kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled the net to the shore. They sat down and put all the good fish in baskets. Then they threw away the bad fish. 49 It will be this way at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the evil people from the good people. 50 The angels will throw the evil people into the blazing furnace. In that place the people will cry and grind their teeth with pain.”
51 Jesus asked his followers, “Do you understand all these things?”
They answered, “Yes, we understand.”
52 Then Jesus said to them, “So every teacher of the law who has been taught about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house. He has both new things and old things saved in his house. And he brings out both those new things and old things.”
Jesus Goes to His Hometown
53 When Jesus finished teaching with these stories, he left there. 54 He went to the town where he grew up. He taught the people in the synagogue, and they were amazed. They said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and this power to do miracles? 55 He is only the son of the carpenter. And his mother is Mary. His brothers are James, Joseph, Simon and Judas. 56 And all his sisters are here with us. So where does this man get all these things?” 57 And the people refused to accept Jesus.
But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own town or in his own home.”
58 The people there did not believe in Jesus. So Jesus did not do many miracles there.

13 That same day Jesus went out of the house(D) and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat(E) and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred,(F) sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”(G)
10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”
11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven(H) has been given to you,(I) but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.(J) 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:
“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.(K)
14 In them is fulfilled(L) the prophecy of Isaiah:
“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[a](M)
16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.(N) 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see(O) but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom(P) and does not understand it, the evil one(Q) comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.(R) 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth(S) choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”(T)
The Parable of the Weeds
24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(U) a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”(V)
The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast(W)(X)
31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(Y) a mustard seed,(Z) which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”(AA)
33 He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(AB) yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds[b] of flour(AC) until it worked all through the dough.”(AD)
34 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.(AE) 35 So was fulfilled(AF) what was spoken through the prophet:
“I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”[c](AG)
The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable(AH) of the weeds in the field.”
37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.(AI) 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,(AJ) 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest(AK) is the end of the age,(AL) and the harvesters are angels.(AM)
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man(AN) will send out his angels,(AO) and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(AP) 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun(AQ) in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.(AR)
The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like(AS) treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.(AT)
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like(AU) a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
The Parable of the Net
47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like(AV) a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds(AW) of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous(AX) 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(AY)
51 “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked.
“Yes,” they replied.
52 He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
A Prophet Without Honor(AZ)
53 When Jesus had finished these parables,(BA) he moved on from there. 54 Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue,(BB) and they were amazed.(BC) “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. 55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?(BD) Isn’t his mother’s(BE) name Mary, and aren’t his brothers(BF) James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense(BG) at him.
But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”(BH)
58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

A sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. 5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. 6 But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 8 Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 Let anyone with ears[a] listen!’
The Purpose of the Parables
10 Then the disciples came and asked him, ‘Why do you speak to them in parables?’ 11 He answered, ‘To you it has been given to know the secrets[b] of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For to those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. 13 The reason I speak to them in parables is that “seeing they do not perceive, and hearing they do not listen, nor do they understand.” 14 With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah that says:
“You will indeed listen, but never understand,
and you will indeed look, but never perceive.
15 For this people’s heart has grown dull,
and their ears are hard of hearing,
and they have shut their eyes;
so that they might not look with their eyes,
and listen with their ears,
and understand with their heart and turn—
and I would heal them.”
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. 17 Truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.
The Parable of the Sower Explained
18 ‘Hear then the parable of the sower. 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. 20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away.[c] 22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. 23 But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.’
The Parable of Weeds among the Wheat
24 He put before them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while everybody was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away. 26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared as well. 27 And the slaves of the householder came and said to him, “Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where, then, did these weeds come from?” 28 He answered, “An enemy has done this.” The slaves said to him, “Then do you want us to go and gather them?” 29 But he replied, “No; for in gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. 30 Let both of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’
The Parable of the Mustard Seed
31 He put before them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; 32 it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.’
The Parable of the Yeast
33 He told them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with[d] three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.’
The Use of Parables
34 Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables; without a parable he told them nothing. 35 This was to fulfil what had been spoken through the prophet:[e]
‘I will open my mouth to speak in parables;
I will proclaim what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.’[f]
Jesus Explains the Parable of the Weeds
36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples approached him, saying, ‘Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.’ 37 He answered, ‘The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; 38 the field is the world, and the good seed are the children of the kingdom; the weeds are the children of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 Just as the weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, 42 and they will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let anyone with ears[g] listen!
Three Parables
44 ‘The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
45 ‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; 46 on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
47 ‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and caught fish of every kind; 48 when it was full, they drew it ashore, sat down, and put the good into baskets but threw out the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Treasures New and Old
51 ‘Have you understood all this?’ They answered, ‘Yes.’ 52 And he said to them, ‘Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.’ 53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he left that place.
The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth
54 He came to his home town and began to teach the people[h] in their synagogue, so that they were astounded and said, ‘Where did this man get this wisdom and these deeds of power? 55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all this?’ 57 And they took offence at him. But Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honour except in their own country and in their own house.’ 58 And he did not do many deeds of power there, because of their unbelief.

13 Nang araw ding iyon, lumabas ng bahay si Jesus at naupo sa tabi ng lawa. 2 Napakaraming tao ang nagtipon sa paligid niya, kaya sumakay siya sa isang bangka at doon umupo, habang ang mga tao namaʼy nasa dalampasigan. 3 Marami siyang itinuro sa kanila sa pamamagitan ng mga talinghaga o paghahalintulad. Sinabi niya,
“May isang magsasakang naghasik ng binhi. 4 Sa kanyang paghahasik, may mga binhing nahulog sa tabi ng daan. Dumating ang mga ibon at tinuka ang mga binhing iyon. 5 May mga binhi namang nahulog sa mabatong lugar, kung saan walang gaanong lupa. Mabilis na tumubo ang binhi dahil mababaw ang lupa. 6 Ngunit natuyo rin ito nang masikatan ng araw, at dahil hindi malalim ang ugat, namatay ito. 7 May mga binhi namang nahulog sa lupang may matitinik na damo. Lumago ang mga damo at natakpan ang mga tumubong binhi. 8 Ang iba namaʼy nahulog sa mabuting lupa, lumago at namunga. Ngunit ang taong hindi sumusunod sa katotohanan, kahit ang kaunti niyang naunawaan ay kukunin pa sa kanya. 13 Kaya nagsasalita ako sa kanila sa pamamagitan ng talinghaga, dahil tumitingin sila pero hindi nakakakita, at nakikinig pero hindi naman nakakaunawa. 14 Sa kanila natupad ang sinabi noon ni Isaias:
‘Makinig man kayo nang makinig, hindi kayo makakaunawa.
Tumingin man kayo nang tumingin, hindi kayo makakakita.
15 Dahil matigas ang puso ng mga taong ito.
Tinakpan nila ang kanilang mga tainga,
at ipinikit ang kanilang mga mata,
dahil baka makakita sila at makarinig,
at maunawaan nila kung ano ang tama,
at magbalik-loob sila sa akin,
at pagalingin ko sila.’[d]
16 Ngunit mapalad kayo, dahil nakakakita kayo at nakakaunawa. 17 Sinasabi ko sa inyo ang totoo, maraming propeta at matutuwid na tao noon ang naghangad na makakita at makarinig ng nakikita at naririnig ninyo ngayon, pero hindi ito nangyari sa kanilang panahon.”

18 “Pakinggan ninyo ang kahulugan ng talinghaga tungkol sa manghahasik: 19 Ang tabi ng daan, kung saan nahulog ang ilang binhi ay ang mga taong nakinig ng mensahe tungkol sa paghahari ng Dios pero hindi nakaunawa. Dumating si Satanas at inagaw ang salita sa kanilang puso. 20 Ang mabatong lugar, kung saan nahulog ang ibang binhi ay ang mga taong nakinig ng salita ng Dios at masaya itong tinanggap agad. 21 Ngunit hindi taimtim sa puso ang kanilang pagtanggap, kaya hindi tumagal ang kanilang pananampalataya. Pagdating ng kahirapan o pag-uusig dahil sa salita ng Dios na kanilang tinanggap, agad silang tumatalikod sa kanilang pananampalataya. 22 Ang lupang may matitinik na damo, kung saan nahulog ang iba pang binhi ay ang mga taong nakinig ng salita ng Dios. Ngunit dahil sa mga alalahanin dito sa mundo at sa paghahangad na yumaman, nakalimutan nila ang salita ng Dios, kaya hindi namunga ang salita sa buhay nila. 23 Ngunit ang mabuting lupang hinasikan ng binhi ay ang mga taong nakikinig sa salita ng Dios at nakakaunawa nito. Kaya namumunga ito sa kanilang buhay. Ang ibaʼy napakarami ang bunga, ang ibaʼy marami, at ang iba namaʼy katamtaman lang.”[e]
Ang Talinghaga tungkol sa mga Damo sa Triguhan
24 Muling nagbigay ng talinghaga si Jesus sa kanila, “Ang paghahari ng Dios ay maitutulad sa kwentong ito: May isang taong naghasik ng mabuting binhi sa kanyang bukid. 25 Pero kinagabihan, habang natutulog ang mga tao, dumating ang kanyang kaaway at naghasik ng masasamang damo at umalis. 26 Nang tumubo ang mga tanim at namunga, lumitaw din ang masasamang damo. 27 Kaya pumunta sa kanya ang kanyang mga alipin at sinabi, ‘Hindi po ba mabubuting binhi lamang ang inihasik ninyo sa inyong bukid? Paano po ba ito nagkaroon ng masasamang damo?’ 28 Sinabi ng may-ari, ‘Isang kaaway ang may kagagawan nito.’ Tinanong siya ng mga utusan, ‘Gusto po ba ninyong bunutin namin ang masasamang damo?’ 29 Sumagot siya, ‘Huwag, baka mabunot din ninyo pati ang trigo. 30 Hayaan na lang muna ninyong lumagong pareho hanggang sa anihan. Kapag dumating na ang panahong iyon, sasabihin ko sa mga tagapag-ani na unahin muna nilang bunutin ang masasamang damo, at bigkisin para sunugin. Pagkatapos, ipapaani ko sa kanila ang trigo at ipapaimbak sa aking bodega.’ ”
Ang Paghahalintulad sa Buto ng Mustasa(D)
31 Ikinuwento pa sa kanila ni Jesus ang paghahalintulad na ito: “Ang kaharian ng Dios ay katulad ng isang buto ng mustasa[f] na itinanim ng isang tao sa kanyang bukid. 32 Ito ang pinakamaliit sa lahat ng buto. Ngunit kapag tumubo at lumaki na, nagiging mas mataas ito kaysa sa ibang mga halamang gulay, na parang punongkahoy ang taas, at pinupugaran ng mga ibon ang mga sanga nito.”
Ang Paghahalintulad sa Pampaalsa(E)
33 Isa pang paghahalintulad ang ikinuwento ni Jesus: “Ang kaharian ng Dios ay katulad ng pampaalsang inihalo ng babae sa isang malaking planggana ng harina, at napaalsa nito ang buong masa ng harina.”
Ang Paggamit ni Jesus ng mga Paghahalintulad o mga Talinghaga(F)
34 Gumamit si Jesus ng mga paghahalintulad o mga talinghaga sa lahat ng kanyang pangangaral tungkol sa paghahari ng Dios. Hindi siya nangaral sa mga tao nang hindi sa pamamagitan nito. 35 Sa ganitong paraan ay natupad ang sinabi ng Dios sa pamamagitan ng kanyang propeta:
“Magsasalita ako sa kanila sa pamamagitan ng paghahalintulad.
Sasabihin ko sa kanila ang mga bagay na nalilihim mula pa nang likhain ang mundo.”[g]
Ang Kahulugan ng Talinghaga tungkol sa mga Damo sa Triguhan
36 Pagkatapos, iniwan ni Jesus ang mga tao at pumasok siya sa isang bahay. Nilapitan siya ng mga tagasunod niya at sinabi, “Pakipaliwanag po sa amin ang talinghaga tungkol sa masasamang damo.” 37 Sumagot si Jesus, “Ang naghasik ng mabuting binhi ay walang iba kundi ako na Anak ng Tao. 38 Ang bukid ay ang mundo, at ang mabuting binhi ay ang mga kabilang sa kaharian ng Dios. Ang masasamang damo naman ay ang mga sakop ni Satanas. 39 Si Satanas ang kaaway na nagtanim sa kanila. Ang anihan ay ang katapusan ng mundo, at ang tagapag-ani ay ang mga anghel. 40 Kung paanong binubunot at sinusunog ang masasamang damo, ganoon din ang mangyayari sa katapusan ng mundo. 41 Ako na Anak ng Tao ay magpapadala ng mga anghel, at aalisin nila sa aking kaharian ang lahat ng gumagawa ng kasalanan at nagiging dahilan ng pagkakasala ng iba. 42 Itatapon sila sa nagliliyab na apoy, at dooʼy iiyak sila at magngangalit ang kanilang ngipin.[h] 43 Pero ang matutuwid ay magniningning na parang araw sa kaharian ng kanilang Ama. Kayong mga nakikinig, dapat ninyo itong pag-isipan!”
Ang Paghahalintulad sa Natatagong Kayamanan
44 Sinabi pa ni Jesus, “Ang kaharian ng Dios ay katulad ng kayamanang nakabaon sa isang bukid. Nang mahukay ito ng isang tao, itinago[i] niya itong muli. At sa tuwa niyaʼy umuwi siya at ipinagbili ang lahat ng kanyang ari-arian, at binili niya ang bukid na iyon.”
Ang Paghahalintulad sa Perlas
45 “Ang kaharian ng Dios ay katulad din nito: May isang negosyante na naghahanap ng magagandang perlas. 46 Nang makatagpo siya ng isang mamahaling perlas, ipinagbili niya ang lahat ng kanyang ari-arian at binili ang perlas na iyon.”
Ang Paghahalintulad sa Lambat
47 “Ang kaharian ng Dios ay katulad din ng isang lambat na inihagis ng mga mangingisda sa lawa at nakahuli ng sari-saring isda. 48 Nang mapuno ang lambat, hinila nila ito papunta sa dalampasigan. Pagkatapos, naupo sila para pagbukud-bukurin ang mga isda. Ang mabubuting isda ay inilagay nila sa mga basket, at ang mga walang kwenta[j] ay itinapon nila. 49 Ganyan din ang mangyayari sa katapusan ng mundo. Darating ang mga anghel at ihihiwalay nila ang masasama sa matutuwid. 50 Itatapon ang masasama sa nagliliyab na apoy, at dooʼy iiyak sila at magngangalit ang kanilang ngipin.”
51 Pagkatapos, tinanong sila ni Jesus, “Naunawaan ba ninyong lahat ang sinabi ko?” Sumagot sila, “Opo.” 52 At sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Kaya nga, ang bawat tagapagturo ng Kautusan na naturuan tungkol sa kaharian ng Dios ay maitutulad sa isang may-ari ng bahay na maraming ari-arian sa bodega niya. Hindi lang ang mga lumang bagay ang kanyang inilalabas sa bodega kundi pati ang mga bago.”[k]
Hindi Tinanggap si Jesus sa Nazaret(G)
53 Pagkatapos mangaral ni Jesus sa pamamagitan ng mga talinghaga ay umalis na siya. 54 Pumunta siya sa sarili niyang bayan at nangaral doon sa kanilang sambahan. Nagtaka sa kanya ang mga kababayan niya. Sinabi nila, “Saan kaya niya nakuha ang karunungang iyan at ang kapangyarihang gumawa ng himala? 55 Hindi baʼt anak siya ng karpintero? Hindi baʼt si Maria ang kanyang ina at ang mga kapatid niya ay sina Santiago, Jose, Simon at Judas? 56 Hindi baʼt ang lahat ng kapatid niyang babae ay dito rin nakatira sa atin? Saan niya nakuha ang ganyang kakayahan?” 57 At hindi nila siya pinaniwalaan. Kaya sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Ang isang propeta ay iginagalang kahit saan, maliban lang sa sarili niyang bayan at pamilya.” 58 Kaya hindi gumawa si Jesus ng maraming himala roon dahil sa kawalan nila ng pananampalataya sa kanya.
