^2 (A)Abraham begot Isaac, ^(B)Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot ^(C)Judah and his brothers.

^8 (A)Then He gave him the covenant of circumcision; ^(B)and so Abraham begot Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day; ^(C)and Isaac begot Jacob, and ^(D)Jacob begot the twelve patriarchs.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, ^(B)when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, ^18 [a]of whom it was said, ^(C)“In Isaac your seed shall be called,”

The Family of Israel^(A)

2 These were the ^(B)sons of ^[a]Israel: ^(C)Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, ² Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

From Judah to David^(D)

³ The sons of ^(E)Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by the daughter of ^(F)Shua, the Canaanitess. ^(G)Er, the firstborn of Judah, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; so He killed him. ⁴ And ^(H)Tamar, his daughter-in-law, ^(I)bore him Perez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.

⁵ The sons of ^(J)Perez were Hezron and Hamul. ⁶ The sons of Zerah were ^[b]Zimri, ^(K)Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and ^[c]Dara—five of them in all.

⁷ The son of ^(L)Carmi was ^[d]Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the ^(M)accursed^[e] thing.

⁸ The son of Ethan was Azariah.

⁸ Now ^(A)these were the names of the children of Israel, Jacob and his sons, who went to Egypt: ^(B)Reuben was Jacob’s firstborn. ⁹ The ^(C)sons of Reuben were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. ^10 (D)The sons of Simeon were ^[a]Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, ^[b]Jachin, ^[c]Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. ¹¹ The sons of ^(E)Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ¹² The sons of ^(F)Judah were ^(G)Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). ^(H)The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. ¹³ The sons of Issachar were Tola, ^[d]Puvah, ^[e]Job, and Shimron. ¹⁴ The ^(I)sons of Zebulun were Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. ¹⁵ These were the ^(J)sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Padan Aram, with his daughter Dinah. All the persons, his sons and his daughters, were thirty-three.

¹⁶ The sons of Gad were ^[f]Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, ^[g]Ezbon, Eri, ^[h]Arodi, and Areli. ^17 (K)The sons of Asher were Jimnah, Ishuah, Isui, Beriah, and Serah, their sister. And the sons of Beriah were Heber and Malchiel. ^18 (L)These were the sons of Zilpah, ^(M)whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter; and these she bore to Jacob: sixteen persons.

¹⁹ The ^(N)sons of Rachel, ^(O)Jacob’s wife, were Joseph and Benjamin. ^20 (P)And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him. ^21 (Q)The sons of Benjamin were Belah, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, ^(R)Ehi, Rosh, ^(S)Muppim, ^[i]Huppim, and Ard. ²² These were the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob: fourteen persons in all.

²³ The son of Dan was ^[j]Hushim. ^24 (T)The sons of Naphtali were ^[k]Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and ^[l]Shillem. ^25 (U)These were the sons of Bilhah, ^(V)whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and she bore these to Jacob: seven persons in all.

^26 (W)All the persons who went with Jacob to Egypt, who came from his body, ^(X)besides Jacob’s sons’ wives, were sixty-six persons in all. ²⁷ And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt were two persons. ^(Y)All the persons of the house of Jacob who went to Egypt were seventy.

²⁶ Afterward his brother came out, and ^(A)his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so ^(B)his name was called ^[a]Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

² For Sarah ^(A)conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, ^(B)at the set time of which God had spoken to him. ³ And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him—whom Sarah bore to him—^(C)Isaac.^{[a] 4} Then Abraham ^(D)circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, ^(E)as God had commanded him. ⁵ Now ^(F)Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

¹¹ By faith ^(A)Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and ^(B)she^[a] bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him ^(C)faithful who had promised.
