34 (A)they gave Him (B)wine to drink mixed with gall; and after tasting it, He did not want to drink.

35 And when they had crucified Him, (C)they divided up His garments among themselves by casting [a]lots. 36 And sitting down, they began to (D)keep watch over Him there. 37 And above His head they put up the charge against Him [b]which read, “(E)THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

38 At that time two robbers *were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left. 39 And those passing by were blaspheming Him, (F)shaking their heads 40 and saying, “(G)You who are going to destroy the sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! (H)If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying, 42 (I)He saved others; [c]He cannot save Himself. (J)He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. 43 (K)He trusts in God; let God rescue Him now, if He [d]delights in Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 (L)And the robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words.

The Crucifixion

22 (A)Then they *brought Him to the place (B)Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. 23 And they tried to give Him (C)wine mixed with myrrh; but He did not take it. 24 And they *crucified Him, and *(D)divided up His garments among themselves, casting [a]lots for them to decide who should take what. 25 Now it was the [b](E)third hour, and they crucified Him. 26 And the inscription of the charge against Him [c]read, “(F)THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

27 And they *crucified two robbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left. 28 [d][And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with transgressors.”] 29 And those passing by were blaspheming Him, (G)shaking their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who are going to (H)destroy the [e]sanctuary and rebuild it in three days, 30 save Yourself by coming down from the cross!” 31 In the same way, mocking Him to one another, the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were saying, “(I)He saved others; [f]He cannot save Himself. 32 Let this [g]Christ, (J)the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” (K)Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.

The Crucifixion

33 (A)And when they came to the place called [a]The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. 34 [b]But Jesus was saying, (B)Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” (C)And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. 35 And the people stood by, looking on. And even the (D)rulers were scoffing at Him, saying, “He saved others; (E)let Him save Himself if this is the [c]Christ of God, His Chosen One.” 36 And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, (F)offering Him sour wine, 37 and saying, “(G)If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!” 38 Now there was also an inscription above Him, “(H)THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

39 (I)And one of the criminals hanging there was blaspheming Him, saying, “Are You not the [d]Christ? (J)Save Yourself and us!” 40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving [e]what we deserve for what we have done; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come [f]in Your kingdom!” 43 And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in (K)Paradise.”

17 (A)They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, [a](B)bearing His own cross, to the place called (C)the Place of a Skull, which is called (D)in [b]Hebrew, Golgotha. 18 There they crucified Him, and with Him (E)two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. 19 And Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, “(F)JESUS THE NAZARENE, (G)THE KING OF THE JEWS.” 20 Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written (H)in [c]Hebrew, Latin, and in Greek. 21 So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘(I)The King of the Jews;’ but that He said, ‘I am (J)King of the Jews.’” 22 Pilate answered, “(K)What I have written I have written.”

23 Then (L)the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made (M)four parts, a part to each soldier and also His [d]tunic; now that tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top. 24 So they said to one another, “(N)Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be;” (O)this was in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “They (P)divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast [e]lots.”
