Predicazione di Giovanni Battista
3 In quei giorni comparve Giovanni il Battista a predicare nel deserto della Giudea, 2 dicendo: «Convertitevi, perché il regno dei cieli è vicino!».
3 Egli è colui che fu annunziato dal profeta Isaia quando disse:
Voce di uno che grida nel deserto:
Preparate la via del Signore,
raddrizzate i suoi sentieri!
4 Giovanni portava un vestito di peli di cammello e una cintura di pelle attorno ai fianchi; il suo cibo erano locuste e miele selvatico. 5 Allora accorrevano a lui da Gerusalemme, da tutta la Giudea e dalla zona adiacente il Giordano; 6 e, confessando i loro peccati, si facevano battezzare da lui nel fiume Giordano.
7 Vedendo però molti farisei e sadducei venire al suo battesimo, disse loro: «Razza di vipere! Chi vi ha suggerito di sottrarvi all'ira imminente? 8 Fate dunque frutti degni di conversione, 9 e non crediate di poter dire fra voi: Abbiamo Abramo per padre. Vi dico che Dio può far sorgere figli di Abramo da queste pietre. 10 Gia la scure è posta alla radice degli alberi: ogni albero che non produce frutti buoni viene tagliato e gettato nel fuoco. 11 Io vi battezzo con acqua per la conversione; ma colui che viene dopo di me è più potente di me e io non son degno neanche di portargli i sandali; egli vi battezzerà in Spirito santo e fuoco. 12 Egli ha in mano il ventilabro, pulirà la sua aia e raccoglierà il suo grano nel granaio, ma brucerà la pula con un fuoco inestinguibile».
Battesimo di Gesù
13 In quel tempo Gesù dalla Galilea andò al Giordano da Giovanni per farsi battezzare da lui. 14 Giovanni però voleva impedirglielo, dicendo: «Io ho bisogno di essere battezzato da te e tu vieni da me?». 15 Ma Gesù gli disse: «Lascia fare per ora, poiché conviene che così adempiamo ogni giustizia». Allora Giovanni acconsentì. 16 Appena battezzato, Gesù uscì dall'acqua: ed ecco, si aprirono i cieli ed egli vide lo Spirito di Dio scendere come una colomba e venire su di lui. 17 Ed ecco una voce dal cielo che disse: «Questi è il Figlio mio prediletto, nel quale mi sono compiaciuto».

3 A u one dane pojavi se Ivan Krstitelj propovijedajući u Judejskoj pustinji. 2 I govorio je: »Obratite se, jer kraljevstvo je nebesko blizu!« 3 Doista, ovo je onaj za koga prorok Izaija reče:
»Glas onoga koji viče u pustinji: 'Pripravite put Gospodnji, poravnajte staze njegove!'«
4 A on, Ivan, imao je odjeću od devine dlake i kožnat pojas oko bokova. Hrana mu pak bila skakavci i divlji med. 5 K njemu je tad dolazio Jeruzalem, sva Judeja i sva okolica jordanska, 6 i on ih je krštavao u rijeci Jordanu, a oni su priznavali svoje grijehe.
7 Kad ugleda mnoge farizeje i saduceje gdje mu dolaze na krštenje, reče im: »Legla gujinja! Tko li vas upozori da bježite od gnjeva što dolazi? 8 Donesite dakle plod dostojan obraćenja. 9 I ne pomišljajte u sebi reći: 'Imamo oca Abrahama!' Jer, kažem vam, Bog iz ovog kamenja može podići djecu Abrahamovu. 10 Već je sjekira položena na korijen stablima; svako se dakle stablo koje ne rađa dobra ploda siječe i u oganj baca.
11 Ja vas doduše krstim vodom na obraćenje, ali onaj koji dolazi za mnom jači je od mene. Ja mu ni obuće nisam dostojan ponijeti. On će vas krstiti Duhom Svetim i ognjem. 12 Vijača mu u ruci; očistit će svoje gumno i skupiti svoju pšenicu u žitnicu, a pljevu će sažeći ognjem neugasivim.«
Krštenje Isusovo
13 Tada Isus dođe iz Galileje na Jordan Ivanu da ga on krsti. 14 A Ivan ga je odvraćao, govoreći: »Ti mene trebaš krstiti, a ti da k meni dolaziš?« 15 Isus mu odgovori: »Pusti sada, jer nam tako dolikuje da ispunimo svu pravednost.« Tada mu popusti. 16 Kad Isus bi kršten, odmah izađe iz vode. I gle, otvoriše mu se nebesa i on ugleda Duha Božjega gdje silazi kao golub i spušta se na njega.[a] 17 I evo glasa s nebesa: »Ovo je Sin moj, Ljubljeni, koji mi je omilio.«

The Preaching of John the Baptist(A)
3 At that time John the Baptist came to the desert of Judea and started preaching. 2 (B)“Turn away from your sins,” he said, “because the Kingdom of heaven is near!” 3 (C)John was the man the prophet Isaiah was talking about when he said,
“Someone is shouting in the desert,
‘Prepare a road for the Lord;
make a straight path for him to travel!’”
4 (D)John's clothes were made of camel's hair; he wore a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5 People came to him from Jerusalem, from the whole province of Judea, and from all over the country near the Jordan River. 6 They confessed their sins, and he baptized them in the Jordan.
7 (E)When John saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to him to be baptized, he said to them, “You snakes—who told you that you could escape from the punishment God is about to send? 8 Do those things that will show that you have turned from your sins. 9 (F)And don't think you can escape punishment by saying that Abraham is your ancestor. I tell you that God can take these rocks and make descendants for Abraham! 10 (G)The ax is ready to cut down the trees at the roots; every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown in the fire. 11 I baptize you with water to show that you have repented, but the one who will come after me will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. He is much greater than I am; and I am not good enough even to carry his sandals. 12 (H)He has his winnowing shovel with him to thresh out all the grain. He will gather his wheat into his barn, but he will burn the chaff in a fire that never goes out.”
The Baptism of Jesus(I)
13 At that time Jesus arrived from Galilee and came to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 But John tried to make him change his mind. “I ought to be baptized by you,” John said, “and yet you have come to me!”
15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so for now. For in this way we shall do all that God requires.” So John agreed.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water. Then heaven was opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and lighting on him. 17 (J)Then a voice said from heaven, “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased.”
