⁹ For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,^[a] ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

^9 (A)Bondservants^[a] are to be submissive to their own masters ^(B)in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,

²² Bondservants, obey ^(A)in everything those who are your earthly masters,^[a] not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.

⁸ For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

³⁵ But Jesus ^(A)rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. ³⁶ And ^(B)they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? ^(C)For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”

³⁹ And he stood over her and ^(A)rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.

³⁹ And he awoke and ^(A)rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and ^(B)there was a great calm. ⁴⁰ He said to them, “Why are you ^(C)so afraid? Have you still no faith?” ⁴¹ And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, ^(D)“Who then is this, that even ^(E)the wind and the sea obey him?”

¹⁷ “Or ^(A)if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Let a sword pass through the land, ^(B)and I cut off from it man and beast, ^18 (C)though these three men were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they alone would be delivered.

¹⁹ “Or ^(D)if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my wrath upon it with blood, to cut off from it man and beast, ²⁰ even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither son nor daughter. They would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness.

²¹ “For thus says the Lord God: How much more ^(E)when I send upon Jerusalem my four disastrous acts of judgment, ^(F)sword, ^(G)famine, ^(H)wild beasts, and ^(I)pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!
