^22 (A)On that day ^(B)many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not ^(C)prophesy in your name, and cast out demons ^(D)in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’

^25 (A)When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ^(B)‘Lord, open to us,’ then he will answer you, ^(C)‘I do not know where you come from.’ ²⁶ Then you will begin to say, ^(D)‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ ²⁷ But he will say, ‘I tell you, ^(E)I do not know where you come from. ^(F)Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’

The Way of Love

13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. ² And if I have ^(A)prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, ^(B)so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

⁴ For it is impossible, in the case of those ^(A)who have once been enlightened, who have tasted ^(B)the heavenly gift, and ^(C)have shared in the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and ^(D)have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, ⁶ and ^(E)then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since ^(F)they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

¹⁷ “They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, ^(A)in the day when I make up ^(B)my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. ¹⁸ Then once more you shall ^(C)see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.

¹³ Then some of the itinerant Jewish ^(A)exorcists ^(B)undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, ^(C)“I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.” ¹⁴ Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this. ¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered them, ^(D)“Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?”

⁸ Henceforth there is ^(A)laid up for me ^(B)the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, ^(C)the righteous judge, will award to me on ^(D)that day, and not only to me but also to all ^(E)who have loved his appearing.

^12 (A)which is why I suffer as I do. But ^(B)I am not ashamed, for ^(C)I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until ^(D)that day ^(E)what has been entrusted to me.^[a]
