¹⁷ Even so, ^(A)every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

A Tree Known by Its Fruit^(A)

³³ “Either make the tree good and ^(B)its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. ^34 (C)Brood^[a] of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? ^(D)For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure ^[b]of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

²² But ^(A)the fruit of the Spirit is ^(B)love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, ^(C)goodness, ^(D)faithfulness, ^23 [a]gentleness, self-control. ^(E)Against such there is no law. ²⁴ And those who are Christ’s ^(F)have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

⁹ (for ^(A)the fruit of the ^[a]Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),

^10 (A)that you may walk worthy of the Lord, ^(B)fully pleasing Him, ^(C)being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the ^(D)knowledge of God;

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

⁶ He also spoke this parable: ^(A)“A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. ⁷ Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it ^[a]use up the ground?’ ⁸ But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. ^9 [b]And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can ^(B)cut it down.’ ”
