The Sermon on the Mount

5 Seeing the crowds, ^(A)he went up on the mountain, and when he ^(B)sat down, his disciples came to him.

^13 (A)And he went up on the mountain and called to him those ^(B)whom he desired, and they came to him.

Jesus Heals Many

^29 (A)Jesus went on from there and walked ^(B)beside the Sea of Galilee. And he ^(C)went up on the mountain and sat down there.

The Parable of the Sower

4 Again ^(A)he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him, ^(B)so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land.

² And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick. ³ Jesus went up on ^(A)the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples.

²⁰ Then he went ^(A)home, and the crowd gathered again, ^(B)so that they could not even eat.

^25 (A)And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the ^(B)Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.

² And great crowds gathered about him, ^(A)so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach.

^2 (A)The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, ^(B)who is called Peter, and ^(C)Andrew his brother; ^(D)James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; ³ Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and ^(E)Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;^{[a] 4} Simon the Zealot,^[b] and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Jesus Calls the First Disciples

^18 (A)While walking by ^(B)the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. ¹⁹ And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you ^(C)fishers of men.”^{[a] 20} Immediately they left their nets and followed him. ²¹ And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. ²² Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
