Peter Denies Jesus

^69 (A)Now Peter was sitting outside ^(B)in the courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”

⁷¹ And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus ^(A)of Nazareth.”

¹³ And when Elijah heard it, ^(A)he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, ^(B)there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

³⁷ After him Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of ^(A)the census and drew away some of the people after him. He too perished, and all who followed him were scattered.

⁷ and ^(A)if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked ⁸ (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, ^(B)he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); ⁹ then ^(C)the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials,^[a] and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,

Peter Denies Jesus Again

^25 (A)Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You also are not one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” ²⁶ One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of ^(B)the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you ^(C)in the garden with him?” ²⁷ Peter again denied it, and ^(D)at once a rooster crowed.

^16 (A)but Peter stood outside at the door. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the servant girl who kept watch at the door, and brought Peter in. ^17 (B)The servant girl at the door said to Peter, “You also are not one of this man's disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.” ¹⁸ Now the servants^[a] and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. ^(C)Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself.

⁵² They replied, ^(A)“Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that ^(B)no prophet arises from Galilee.”

⁴¹ Others said, “This is ^(A)the Christ.” But some said, ^(B)“Is the Christ to come from Galilee?

⁴⁶ Nathanael said to him, ^(A)“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
