Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus^(A)

¹⁴ Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot^(B)—went to the chief priests

³ Then Satan^(A) entered Judas, called Iscariot,^(B) one of the Twelve. ⁴ And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard^(C) and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. ⁵ They were delighted and agreed to give him money.^{(D) 6} He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.

¹⁰ Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve,^(A) went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.^{(B) 11} They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

¹⁶ and said, “Brothers and sisters,^[a](A) the Scripture had to be fulfilled^(B) in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas,^(C) who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus.

³⁰ As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.^(A)

² The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.^(A)

⁷⁰ Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you,^(A) the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”^{(B) 71} (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot,^(C) who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)^(D)

³ When Judas, who had betrayed him,^(A) saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver^(B) to the chief priests and the elders.
