⁴¹ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me,^(A) you who are cursed, into the eternal fire^(B) prepared for the devil and his angels.^(C)

⁶ And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.^{(A) 7} In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah^(B) and the surrounding towns^(C) gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.^(D)

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned,^(A) but sent them to hell,^[a] putting them in chains of darkness^[b] to be held for judgment;^(B)

⁹ They will be punished with everlasting destruction^(A) and shut out from the presence of the Lord^(B) and from the glory of his might^(C)

⁴² They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.^(A)

⁴⁰ “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.

¹⁰ And the devil, who deceived them,^(A) was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,^(B) where the beast^(C) and the false prophet^(D) had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.^(E)

The Judgment of the Dead

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne^(F) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,^(G) and there was no place for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, great and small,^(H) standing before the throne, and books were opened.^(I) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.^(J) The dead were judged^(K) according to what they had done^(L) as recorded in the books. ¹³ The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades^(M) gave up the dead^(N) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.^{(O) 14} Then death^(P) and Hades^(Q) were thrown into the lake of fire.^(R) The lake of fire is the second death.^{(S) 15} Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life^(T) was thrown into the lake of fire.

¹⁰ For all who rely on the works of the law^(A) are under a curse,^(B) as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”^{[a](C) 11} Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God,^(D) because “the righteous will live by faith.”^{[b](E) 12} The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.”^{[c](F) 13} Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law^(G) by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.”^[d](H)

²³ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’^(A)
