^35 (A)And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and ^(B)stoned another.

¹⁵ The Lord, the God of their fathers, ^(A)sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. ^16 (B)But they kept mocking the messengers of God, ^(C)despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, ^(D)until the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.

³⁶ Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even ^(A)chains and imprisonment. ^37 (B)They were stoned, they were sawn in two,^{[a] (C)}they were killed with the sword. ^(D)They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated—

^26 (A)“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you ^(B)and cast your law behind their back ^(C)and killed your prophets, who ^(D)had warned them in order to turn them back to you, ^(E)and they committed great blasphemies.

^52 (A)Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of ^(B)the Righteous One, ^(C)whom you have now betrayed and murdered,

^12 (A)Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for ^(B)so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

⁹ When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under ^(A)the altar ^(B)the souls of those who had been slain ^(C)for the word of God and for ^(D)the witness they had borne.

³³ Nevertheless, ^(A)I ^(B)must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that ^(C)a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’ ^34 (D)O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that ^(E)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! ^(F)How often would I have ^(G)gathered ^(H)your children together ^(I)as a hen gathers her brood ^(J)under her wings, and ^(K)you were not willing!

³¹ Thus you witness against yourselves that you are ^(A)sons of those who murdered the prophets. ^32 (B)Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. ³³ You serpents, ^(C)you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to ^(D)hell? ^34 (E)Therefore ^(F)I send you ^(G)prophets and wise men and ^(H)scribes, ^(I)some of whom you will kill and crucify, and ^(J)some you will ^(K)flog in your synagogues and ^(L)persecute from town to town, ³⁵ so that on you may come all ^(M)the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous ^(N)Abel to the blood of ^(O)Zechariah the son of Barachiah,^[a] whom you murdered between ^(P)the sanctuary and ^(Q)the altar. ³⁶ Truly, I say to you, ^(R)all these things will come upon this generation.
