²⁵ He said, “Yes.”

And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from ^(A)strangers?”

²¹ They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”

And He said to them, ^(A)“Render^[a] therefore to Caesar the things that are ^(B)Caesar’s, and to God the things that are ^(C)God’s.”

⁶ For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. ^7 (A)Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

¹⁹ Show Me the tax money.”

So they brought Him a denarius.

¹⁷ Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

²⁵ So the men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel; and it shall be that the man who kills him the king will enrich with great riches, ^(A)will give him his daughter, and give his father’s house exemption from taxes in Israel.”

¹⁵ But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.
