²¹ But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.^(A)

⁶ Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”^(A)

⁸ For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive^(A) in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.^{(B) 9} But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind,^(C) forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.^(D)

¹⁷ so that Christ may dwell in your hearts^(A) through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted^(B) and established in love,

⁵ “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;^(A) apart from me you can do nothing. ⁶ If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.^{(B) 7} If you remain in me^(C) and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.^(D)

²⁵ Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it^(A) for eternal life.^{(B) 26} Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.^(C) My Father will honor the one who serves me.
