³ and said to him, “Are you ^(A)the one who is to come, or shall we ^(B)look for another?”

²⁷ She said to him, “Yes, Lord; ^(A)I believe that ^(B)you are the Christ, the Son of God, ^(C)who is coming into the world.”

3 ^(A)“Behold, I send ^(B)my messenger, and ^(C)he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord ^(D)whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and ^(E)the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.

A New Prophet like Moses

^15 (A)“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen— ¹⁶ just as you desired of the Lord your God at Horeb ^(B)on the day of the assembly, when you said, ^(C)‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.’ ¹⁷ And the Lord said to me, ^(D)‘They are right in what they have spoken. ^18 (E)I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. ^(F)And I will put my words in his mouth, and ^(G)he shall speak to them all that I command him.

³⁷ For,

⁴¹ Others said, “This is ^(A)the Christ.” But some said, ^(B)“Is the Christ to come from Galilee? ⁴² Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes ^(C)from the offspring of David, and comes ^(D)from Bethlehem, the village ^(E)where David was?”

³¹ Yet ^(A)many of the people believed in him. They said, ^(B)“When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?”

¹⁴ When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, ^(A)“This is indeed ^(B)the Prophet ^(C)who is to come into the world!”
