⁶ and ^(A)Jesse begot David the king.

^(B)David the king begot Solomon by her ^[a]who had been the wife of Uriah.

Solomon Is Born

²⁴ Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her. So ^(A)she bore a son, and ^(B)he^[a] called his name Solomon. Now the Lord loved him, ²⁵ and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet: So ^[b]he called his name ^[c]Jedidiah, because of the Lord.

²⁶ When the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. ²⁷ And when her mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she ^(A)became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done ^(B)displeased^[a] the Lord.

¹² Now David was ^(A)the son of that ^(B)Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse, and who had ^(C)eight sons. And the man was old, advanced in years, in the days of Saul.

⁵ because David ^(A)did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, ^(B)except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

David Anointed King

16 Now the Lord said to Samuel, ^(A)“How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? ^(B)Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to ^(C)Jesse the Bethlehemite. For ^(D)I have ^[a]provided Myself a king among his sons.”

⁴ And ^(A)these are the names of his children whom he had in Jerusalem: ^[a]Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

^5 (A)And these were born to him in Jerusalem: ^[a]Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and ^(B)Solomon—four by ^[b]Bathshua the daughter of ^[c]Ammiel.

¹¹ And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the ^(A)sheep.”

And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not ^[a]sit down till he comes here.” ¹² So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ^(B)ruddy, ^(C)with ^[b]bright eyes, and good-looking. ^(D)And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and ^(E)the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
