Yesus mengutus para Rasul-Nya

(Mrk 3:13-19; 6:7-13; Luk 6:12-16; 9:1-6)

10 Yesus memanggil kedua belas pengikut-Nya dan memberi mereka kuasa untuk mengusir roh-roh jahat dan menyembuhkan setiap jenis penyakit dan kesakitan. Inilah nama kedua belas rasul itu:

Simon yang juga disebut Petrus,

Andreas saudara Simon,

Yakobus anak Zebedeus,

Yohanes saudara Yakobus,

Filipus,

Bartolomeus,

Tomas,

Matius si pemungut pajak,

Yakobus anak Alfeus,

Tadeus,

Simon orang Zelot, dan Yudas Iskariot, yang nantinya mengkhianati Yesus.

Yesus mengutus kedua belasnya dengan beberapa petunjuk: “Jangan pergi ke daerah orang bukan Yahudi. Dan jangan masuk ke kota-kota di mana orang Samaria tinggal. Tetapi pergilah kepada orang Israel sebab mereka seperti domba yang tersesat. Ketika kamu pergi, sampaikanlah hal ini kepada mereka: ‘Kerajaan Allah sudah dekat.’ Sembuhkanlah juga orang sakit, bangkitkanlah orang mati, sembuhkanlah orang sakit kusta dan usirlah roh-roh jahat. Kamu telah menerima kuasa ini dengan cuma-cuma, oleh karena itu bantulah orang lain dengan cuma-cuma. Janganlah bawa uang; baik emas, perak, maupun tembaga. 10 Janganlah bawa tas atau baju atau sandal ataupun tongkat jalan. Seorang pekerja layak diberi makanan.

11 Ketika kamu tiba di kota atau desa, carilah orang yang menyambutmu dan tinggallah di rumahnya sampai kamu pergi dari situ. 12 Dan waktu kamu masuk ke rumah itu, katakanlah, ‘Damai besertamu.’ 13 Jika orang-orang yang ada di rumah menyambutmu, biarlah kedamaianmu bersama mereka. Tetapi jika mereka tidak menyambutmu, mereka tidak layak untuk menerima kedamaian itu. 14 Dan jika orang-orang tidak mau menerimamu atau mendengarkan kamu, tinggalkan tempat itu dan kebaskan debu dari kakimu.[a] 15 Ketahuilah bahwa pada hari penghakiman, kota atau desa itu akan dihakimi jauh lebih buruk daripada Sodom dan Gomora.”[b]

Yesus memperingatkan tentang kesusahan

(Mrk 13:9-13; Luk 21:12-17)

16 “Dengarlah! Aku mengutus kamu pergi seperti domba ke tengah-tengah kawanan serigala. Oleh karena itu, hendaklah kamu cerdik seperti ular, tetapi tulus seperti burung merpati. 17 Siaplah menghadapi kesusahan, sebab ada orang yang akan menangkapmu dan membawa kamu ke pengadilan. Mereka akan menyambukimu di rumah ibadah mereka. 18 Karena kamu mengikut Aku, kamu akan dibawa ke hadapan para gubernur dan raja-raja. Hal itu harus terjadi supaya kamu dapat menyampaikan tentang Aku kepada mereka dan kepada orang-orang bukan Yahudi. 19 Jika kamu ditangkap, janganlah khawatir tentang apa yang akan kamu katakan atau bagaimana kamu mengatakannya. Sebab, pada saat itu kamu akan diberikan kata-kata untuk diucapkan. 20 Ingatlah, pada saat itu bukan kamu yang berbicara, sebaliknya Roh Bapamu yang berbicara melalui kamu.

21 Saudara-saudara akan mengkhianati saudaranya sendiri dan menyerahkan mereka untuk dibunuh. Bapa akan menyerahkan anaknya sendiri untuk dibunuh. Anak-anak akan melawan orang tuanya sendiri dan menyerahkan mereka untuk dibunuh. 22 Setiap orang akan membencimu karena kamu mengikuti Aku, tetapi mereka yang tetap setia sampai akhir akan diselamatkan. 23 Jika kamu diperlakukan dengan buruknya di suatu kota, pergilah ke kota berikutnya. Ketahuilah bahwa Anak Manusia akan datang sebelum kamu selesai mengunjungi seluruh kota-kota Israel.

24 Murid tidak akan diperlakukan lebih baik dari gurunya. Hamba tidak akan diperlakukan lebih baik dari majikannya. 25 Cukuplah jika seorang murid bisa diperlakukan sama seperti gurunya, dan seorang hamba bisa diperlakukan sama seperti majikannya. Jika mereka menyebut Aku ‘pemimpin roh-roh jahat’, dan Akulah pemimpin keluarga,[c] maka kalian, anggota-anggota keluarga-Ku pasti akan dihina lebih buruk lagi.”

Takutlah akan Allah, bukan manusia

(Luk 12:2-7)

26 “Jadi, janganlah takut terhadap orang-orang itu. Karena setiap hal yang tersembunyi akan dinyatakan dan setiap rahasia akan terbuka. 27 Apa yang Kukatakan kepadamu secara tersembunyi, nyatakanlah secara terbuka. Dan apa yang Kubisikkan ke telingamu, beritakanlah secara terbuka kepada semua orang.

28 Janganlah takut terhadap manusia. Mereka hanya dapat membunuh tubuh, tetapi tidak dapat membunuh jiwa. Takutlah hanya kepada Allah yang dapat membinasakan baik tubuh maupun jiwa ke dalam neraka. 29 Sepasang burung pipit dijual dengan harga murah. Namun, tidak ada seekor pun yang mati tanpa diketahui oleh Bapamu. 30 Allah bahkan tahu jumlah rambut di kepalamu. 31 Jadi, janganlah kamu takut, sebab kamu lebih berharga daripada kawanan burung pipit tersebut.”

Janganlah malu akan imanmu

(Luk 12:8-9)

32 “Jika kamu mengakui Aku di depan orang lain bahwa kamu percaya pada-Ku, maka Aku akan mengatakan kepada Bapa-Ku di surga bahwa kamu adalah milik-Ku. 33 Tetapi jika kamu menyangkal Aku di depan orang-orang, maka Aku akan mengatakan kepada Bapa-Ku di surga bahwa kamu bukanlah milik-Ku.”

Mengikuti Yesus membawa kesengsaraan

(Luk 12:51-53; 14:26-27)

34 “Janganlah kamu berpikir bahwa Aku datang untuk membawa kedamaian di bumi. Aku bukan datang untuk membawa kedamaian. Aku datang membawa pedang. 35 Tujuan kedatangan-Ku adalah untuk membuat ini terjadi:

‘Anak laki-laki akan melawan ayahnya,
    anak perempuan melawan ibunya,
dan menantu perempuan melawan ibu mertuanya.
36     Dan anak laki-laki akan menjadi musuh anggota keluarganya sendiri.’[d]

37 Jika kamu lebih mengasihi ayah atau ibumu daripada Aku, kamu tidak layak menjadi pengikut-Ku. Atau jika kamu lebih mengasihi anak laki-laki atau anak perempuanmu daripada Aku, kamu tidak layak bagi-Ku. 38 Mereka yang tidak mau memikul salib[e] yang diberikan kepadanya apabila mengikuti Aku tidak layak bagi-Ku. 39 Jika kamu coba menjaga hidupmu, kamu akan kehilangannya. Sebaliknya, jika kamu menyerahkan hidupmu buat Aku, kamu akan peroleh hidup yang sesungguhnya.”

Allah memberkati mereka yang menyambutmu

(Mrk 9:41)

40 “Barangsiapa menerima kamu, ia juga menerima Aku. Dan barangsiapa menerima Aku, ia menerima Allah yang mengutus Aku. 41 Barangsiapa menyambut seorang nabi karena ia adalah seorang nabi akan mendapat upah seperti yang diperoleh nabi itu. Dan barangsiapa menyambut seorang benar karena ia adalah seorang benar akan mendapat upah seperti yang diperoleh orang benar itu. 42 Barangsiapa menolong salah satu dari mereka yang hina ini karena mereka adalah pengikut-Ku akan mendapat upahnya, meskipun yang ia berikan hanyalah segelas air minum.”

10 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;

Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,

10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.

11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.

13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

The Twelve Apostles

10 (A)And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. (B)The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, (C)who is called Peter, and (D)Andrew his brother; (E)James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and (F)Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;[a] Simon the Zealot,[b] and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

(G)These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of (H)the Samaritans, (I)but go rather to (J)the lost sheep of (K)the house of Israel. And proclaim as you go, saying, (L)‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’[c] (M)Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers,[d] cast out demons. (N)You received without paying; give without pay. (O)Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, 10 no bag for your journey, or two tunics[e] or sandals or a staff, for (P)the laborer deserves his food. 11 And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart. 12 As you enter the house, (Q)greet it. 13 And if the house is (R)worthy, let (S)your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let (T)your peace return to you. 14 And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, (U)shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. 15 Truly, I say to you, (V)it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for (W)the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.

Persecution Will Come

16 (X)“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be (Y)wise as serpents and (Z)innocent as doves. 17 Beware of men, for (AA)they will deliver you over to courts and flog you (AB)in their synagogues, 18 (AC)and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, (AD)to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. 19 (AE)When (AF)they deliver you over, (AG)do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for (AH)what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. 20 (AI)For it is not you who speak, but (AJ)the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. 21 (AK)Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 (AL)and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. (AM)But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they (AN)persecute you in one town, (AO)flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel (AP)before the Son of Man comes.

24 (AQ)“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant[f] above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. (AR)If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign[g] those of his household.

Have No Fear

26 “So have no fear of them, (AS)for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on (AT)the housetops. 28 And (AU)do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him (AV)who can destroy both soul and body in hell.[h] 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?[i] And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But (AW)even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; (AX)you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 (AY)So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but (AZ)whoever denies me before men, (BA)I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

Not Peace, but a Sword

34 (BB)“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. (BC)I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 (BD)For I have come (BE)to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 (BF)And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. 37 (BG)Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And (BH)whoever does not take his cross and (BI)follow me is not worthy of me. 39 (BJ)Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Rewards

40 (BK)“Whoever receives you receives me, and (BL)whoever receives me receives him who sent me. 41 (BM)The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward. 42 And (BN)whoever gives one of (BO)these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

10 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits(F) and to heal every disease and sickness.(G)

These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.(H)

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.(I) Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.(J) As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven(K) has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

“Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts(L) 10 no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.(M) 11 Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave. 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting.(N) 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.(O) 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah(P) on the day of judgment(Q) than for that town.(R)

16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.(S) Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.(T) 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils(U) and be flogged in the synagogues.(V) 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings(W) as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it.(X) At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father(Y) speaking through you.

21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents(Z) and have them put to death.(AA) 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me,(AB) but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(AC) 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.(AD)

24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.(AE) 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul,(AF) how much more the members of his household!

26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.(AG) 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One(AH) who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[b] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.(AI) 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.(AJ)

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others,(AK) I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.(AL)

34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn

“‘a man against his father,
    a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law(AM)
36     a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[c](AN)

37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.(AO) 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.(AP) 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.(AQ)

40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me,(AR) and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.(AS) 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”(AT)
