Ac wedi geni’r Iesu ym Methlehem Jwdea, yn nyddiau Herod frenin, wele, doethion a ddaethant o’r dwyrain i Jerwsalem, Gan ddywedyd, Pa le y mae’r hwn a anwyd yn Frenin yr Iddewon? canys gwelsom ei seren ef yn y dwyrain, a daethom i’w addoli ef. Ond pan glybu Herod frenin, efe a gyffrowyd, a holl Jerwsalem gydag ef. A chwedi dwyn ynghyd yr holl archoffeiriaid ac ysgrifenyddion y bobl, efe a ymofynnodd â hwynt pa le y genid Crist. A hwy a ddywedasant wrtho, Ym Methlehem Jwdea: canys felly yr ysgrifennwyd trwy’r proffwyd; A thithau, Bethlehem, tir Jwda, nid lleiaf wyt ymhlith tywysogion Jwda: canys ohonot ti y daw Tywysog, yr hwn a fugeilia fy mhobl Israel. Yna Herod, wedi galw y doethion yn ddirgel, a’u holodd hwynt yn fanwl am yr amser yr ymddangosasai y seren. Ac wedi eu danfon hwy i Fethlehem, efe a ddywedodd, Ewch, ac ymofynnwch yn fanwl am y mab bychan; a phan gaffoch ef, mynegwch i mi, fel y gallwyf finnau ddyfod a’i addoli ef. Hwythau, wedi clywed y brenin, a aethant; ac wele, y seren a welsent yn y dwyrain a aeth o’u blaen hwy, hyd oni ddaeth hi a sefyll goruwch y lle yr oedd y mab bychan. 10 A phan welsant y seren, llawenychasant â llawenydd mawr dros ben.

11 A phan ddaethant i’r tŷ, hwy a welsant y mab bychan gyda Mair ei fam; a hwy a syrthiasant i lawr, ac a’i haddolasant ef: ac wedi agoryd eu trysorau, a offrymasant iddo anrhegion; aur, a thus, a myrr. 12 Ac wedi eu rhybuddio hwy gan Dduw trwy freuddwyd, na ddychwelent at Herod, hwy a aethant drachefn i’w gwlad ar hyd ffordd arall. 13 Ac wedi iddynt ymado, wele angel yr Arglwydd yn ymddangos i Joseff mewn breuddwyd, gan ddywedyd, Cyfod, cymer y mab bychan a’i fam, a ffo i’r Aifft, a bydd yno hyd oni ddywedwyf i ti: canys ceisio a wna Herod y mab bychan i’w ddifetha ef. 14 Ac yntau pan gyfododd, a gymerth y mab bychan a’i fam o hyd nos, ac a giliodd i’r Aifft; 15 Ac a fu yno hyd farwolaeth Herod: fel y cyflawnid yr hyn a ddywedwyd gan yr Arglwydd trwy’r proffwyd, gan ddywedyd, O’r Aifft y gelwais fy mab.

16 Yna Herod, pan weles ei siomi gan y doethion, a ffromodd yn aruthr, ac a ddanfonodd, ac a laddodd yr holl fechgyn oedd ym Methlehem, ac yn ei holl gyffiniau, o ddwyflwydd oed a than hynny, wrth yr amser yr ymofynasai efe yn fanwl â’r doethion. 17 Yna y cyflawnwyd yr hyn a ddywedasid gan Jeremeias y proffwyd, gan ddywedyd, 18 Llef a glybuwyd yn Rama, galar, ac wylofain, ac ochain mawr, Rachel yn wylo am ei phlant; ac ni fynnai ei chysuro, am nad oeddynt.

19 Ond wedi marw Herod, wele angel yr Arglwydd mewn breuddwyd yn ymddangos i Joseff yn yr Aifft, 20 Gan ddywedyd, Cyfod, a chymer y mab bychan a’i fam, a dos i dir Israel: canys y rhai oedd yn ceisio einioes y mab bychan a fuant feirw. 21 Ac wedi ei gyfodi, efe a gymerth y mab bychan a’i fam, ac a ddaeth i dir Israel. 22 Eithr pan glybu efe fod Archelaus yn teyrnasu ar Jwdea yn lle ei dad Herod, efe a ofnodd fyned yno. Ac wedi ei rybuddio gan Dduw mewn breuddwyd, efe a giliodd i barthau Galilea. 23 A phan ddaeth, efe a drigodd mewn dinas a elwid Nasareth: fel y cyflawnid yr hyn a ddywedasid trwy’r proffwydi, Y gelwid ef yn Nasaread.

The Visit of the Wise Men

Now (A)after Jesus was born in (B)Bethlehem of Judea (C)in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men[a] from (D)the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born (E)king of the Jews? For we saw (F)his star when it rose[b] and have come to (G)worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where (H)the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:

(I)“‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
    are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for from you shall come a ruler
    who will (J)shepherd my people Israel.’”

Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. 11 And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, (K)they offered him gifts, (L)gold and (M)frankincense and (N)myrrh. 12 And (O)being warned (P)in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.

The Flight to Egypt

13 Now when they had departed, behold, (Q)an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. (R)This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, (S)“Out of Egypt I called my son.”

Herod Kills the Children

16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. 17 (T)Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah:

18 (U)“A voice was heard in Ramah,
    weeping and loud lamentation,
Rachel weeping for her children;
    she refused to be comforted, because they (V)are no more.”

The Return to Nazareth

19 But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20 saying, “Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for (W)those who sought the child's life are dead.” 21 And he rose and took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and (X)being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee. 23 And he went and lived in a city called (Y)Nazareth, (Z)so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that he would be called a Nazarene.
