A parábola das dez jovens
25 “O reino dos céus pode ser também explicado pela situação daquelas dez jovens que pegaram nas suas lâmpadas e foram ao encontro do noivo. 2-4 Contudo, só cinco delas tiveram prudência bastante para encher as lâmpadas de azeite, enquanto as outras cinco, que eram pouco ajuizadas, se esqueceram de o fazer. 5 Como o noivo se demorasse, deitaram-se para descansar. 6 À meia-noite foram despertadas por alguém que gritou: ‘Vem aí o noivo! Saiam a recebê-lo!’
7 Todas se levantaram logo e prepararam as lâmpadas. 8 Então, as cinco que não tinham azeite, pediram às outras que lhes dessem algum, porque as suas lâmpadas estavam a apagar-se. 9 Mas as outras responderam: ‘Não, porque depois não chega para todas. Vão comprá-lo.’
10 Enquanto foram, o noivo chegou; as que estavam prontas entraram com ele para a festa de casamento e a porta foi trancada. 11 Mais tarde, quando as outras cinco voltaram, ficaram na rua, chamando: ‘Senhor, senhor, abre-nos a porta!’ 12 Mas ele respondeu: ‘É realmente como vos digo: não vos conheço.’
13 Portanto, conservem-se despertos e estejam preparados, pois não sabem a data nem o momento do meu regresso.
A parábola do dinheiro investido
(Lc 19.12-27)
14 O reino dos céus pode também ser comparado ao caso de um homem que ia para outro país e que, reunindo os servos, lhes entregou os seus bens. 15 Entregou cinco talentos[a] a um, dois a outro e um ao último, conforme as capacidades de cada um, e depois partiu.
16 O homem que recebeu cinco talentos começou logo a comprar e a vender com eles, e depressa ganhou outros cinco. 17 O que tinha dois talentos deitou-se também ao trabalho e ganhou outros dois. 18 Mas o que recebera um cavou um buraco no chão e escondeu-o ali.
19 Passado muito tempo, o patrão voltou da viagem e chamou-os, para que dessem contas do dinheiro. 20 Aquele a quem tinha confiado cinco talentos trouxe-lhe dez, dizendo: ‘Senhor, confiaste-me cinco talentos e dobrei a quantia.’ 21 O homem gabou-o pelo seu bom trabalho: ‘Óptimo, servo bom e fiel! Foste fiel com o pouco que te confiei, vou entregar-te mais responsabilidades. Entretanto, poderás participar da satisfação do teu senhor.’ 22 Depois veio o que tinha recebido dois talentos, e disse: ‘Senhor, confiaste-me dois talentos. Olha, dobrei a quantia.’ 23 ‘Bom trabalho’, observou o senhor. ‘És um servo capaz e de confiança. Foste fiel com essa pequena soma, por isso agora dou-te muito mais.’
24 Então veio o homem que recebera um talento e disse: ‘Senhor, eu sabia que és um homem duro, ceifando onde não semeaste e colhendo onde não cultivaste. 25 Tive medo de perder o teu dinheiro, portanto escondi-o na terra; aqui o tens.’
26 Mas o patrão respondeu: ‘Foste um servo mau e preguiçoso! Sabias que ceifo onde não semeio e colho onde não cultivo, 27 devias ao menos ter depositado o meu dinheiro no banco para que eu recuperasse o que é meu acrescido de juros. 28 Tirem o dinheiro a este homem e deem-no ao dos dez talentos! 29 Porque quem tiver receberá e terá em abundância; mas a quem não tem até o que tiver lhe será tirado. 30 E mandem esse servo inútil lá para fora, para a escuridão, onde há choro e ranger de dentes.’
As ovelhas e as cabras
31 Quando eu, o Filho do Homem, vier na minha glória com todos os anjos, então sentar-me-ei no meu trono glorioso, 32 e todas as nações serão reunidas diante de mim. Separarei o povo como um pastor aparta as ovelhas das cabras, 33 e porei as ovelhas à minha direita e as cabras à minha esquerda.
34 Então eu, o rei, direi aos que estiverem à minha direita: ‘Venham, filhos felizes do meu Pai, para o reino que vos foi preparado desde o princípio do mundo. 35 Porque tive fome e deram-me de comer; tive sede e deram-me água; era estranho e convidaram-me para vossas casas; 36 andava nu e vestiram-me; estive doente e cuidaram de mim; estive na prisão e visitaram-me.’
37 Esses homens justos perguntarão: ‘Senhor, quando foi que alguma vez te vimos com fome e te demos de comer ou com sede e te demos de beber? 38 Ou, sendo um estranho, te hospedámos ou, estando nu, te vestimos? 39 Quando te vimos alguma vez doente ou na prisão e te visitámos?’ 40 E eu, o rei, lhes direi: ‘É realmente como vos digo: quando fizeram isso a um destes meus mais insignificantes irmãos, a mim o fizeram!’
41 Voltar-me-ei para os que estiverem à minha esquerda e lhes direi: ‘Saiam daqui, malditos, para o fogo eterno preparado para o Diabo e seus demónios; 42 porque tive fome e não me deram de comer, tive sede e não me deram de beber; 43 fui um estranho e não me deram hospedagem, andava nu e não quiseram vestir-me; estive doente e na prisão e não me visitaram.’
44 Então responderão: ‘Senhor, quando foi que alguma vez te vimos com fome ou com sede, ou sendo tu estranho ou andando nu, ou estando doente ou na prisão e não te socorremos?’
45 E responderei: ‘É realmente como vos digo: quando não quiseram socorrer o mais insignificante destes meus irmãos, foi a mim que recusavam ajuda.’ 46 Estes irão para o castigo eterno, mas os justos irão para a vida eterna.”

25 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like (A)ten virgins who took their lamps[a] and went to meet (B)the bridegroom.[b] 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were (C)wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom (D)was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6 But (E)at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and (F)trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and (G)those who were ready went in with him to (H)the marriage feast, and (I)the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, (J)‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 (K)But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, (L)I do not know you.’ 13 (M)Watch therefore, for you (N)know neither the day nor the hour.
The Parable of the Talents
14 (O)“For (P)it will be like a man (Q)going on a journey, who called his servants[c] and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five (R)talents,[d] to another two, to another one, (S)to each according to his ability. Then he (T)went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and (U)dug in the ground and hid his master's money. 19 Now (V)after a long time the master of those servants came and (W)settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and (X)faithful servant.[e] (Y)You have been faithful over a little; (Z)I will set you over much. Enter into (AA)the joy of your master.’ 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be (AB)a hard man, reaping (AC)where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 (AG)For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And (AH)cast (AI)the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place (AJ)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
The Final Judgment
31 (AK)“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, (AL)then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him (AM)will be gathered (AN)all the nations, and (AO)he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates (AP)the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34 Then (AQ)the King will say to (AR)those on his right, ‘Come, you (AS)who are blessed by my Father, (AT)inherit (AU)the kingdom (AV)prepared for you (AW)from the foundation of the world. 35 For (AX)I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you (AY)gave me drink, (AZ)I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 (BA)I was naked and you clothed me, (BB)I was sick and you (BC)visited me, (BD)I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And (BE)the King will answer them, (BF)‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these (BG)my brothers,[f] you did it to me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, (BH)‘Depart from me, you (BI)cursed, into (BJ)the eternal fire prepared for (BK)the devil and his angels. 42 For (BL)I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, (BM)you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away (BN)into eternal punishment, but the righteous (BO)into (BP)eternal life.”

25 Ce jour-là, il en sera du royaume des cieux comme de dix jeunes filles qui prirent leurs lampes et s’en allèrent à la rencontre du marié. 2 Cinq d’entre elles étaient insensées, les cinq autres étaient avisées : 3 les jeunes filles insensées prirent leurs lampes sans penser à emporter de réserve d’huile, 4 mais celles qui étaient avisées prirent, avec leurs lampes, des flacons contenant de l’huile.
5 Comme le marié se faisait attendre, elles s’assoupirent toutes et finirent par céder au sommeil. 6 A minuit, un cri retentit : « Voici l’époux ! Allez à sa rencontre ! »
7 Toutes les jeunes filles se levèrent et préparèrent leurs lampes. 8 Alors les jeunes filles insensées s’adressèrent à celles qui étaient avisées : « Donnez-nous de votre huile, car nos lampes sont en train de s’éteindre. »
9 Mais celles-ci leur répondirent : « Non ! Il n’y en aurait jamais assez pour nous et pour vous. Courez plutôt vous en acheter chez le marchand. »
10 Elles partirent en chercher. Pendant ce temps, le marié arriva : celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui dans la salle de noces, et l’on ferma la porte.
11 Plus tard, les autres jeunes filles arrivèrent à leur tour ; mais elles eurent beau crier : « Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvre-nous ! » 12 Il leur répondit : « Vraiment, je vous l’assure : je ne sais pas qui vous êtes. »
13 C’est pourquoi, ajouta Jésus, tenez-vous en éveil, car vous ne savez ni le jour, ni l’heure de ma venue.
La parabole de l’argent à faire fructifier
(Lc 19.12-27)
14 Il en sera comme d’un homme qui partit pour un voyage : il convoqua ses serviteurs et leur confia l’administration de ses biens. 15 Il remit à l’un cinq lingots[a], à un autre deux, et à un troisième un seul, en tenant compte des capacités personnelles de chacun. Puis il s’en alla. 16 Celui qui avait reçu les cinq lingots se mit aussitôt à les faire fructifier, de sorte qu’il en gagna cinq autres. 17 Celui qui en avait reçu deux fit de même et en gagna deux autres. 18 Quant à celui qui n’en avait reçu qu’un, il s’en alla creuser un trou dans la terre pour y cacher l’argent de son maître.
19 Longtemps après, le maître de ces serviteurs revint et leur fit rendre compte de leur gérance.
20 Celui qui avait reçu les cinq lingots se présenta, apportant les cinq lingots supplémentaires qu’il avait gagnés.
« Maître, dit-il, tu m’avais remis cinq lingots, j’en ai gagné cinq autres. Les voici.
21 – Très bien, lui dit son maître, tu es un bon serviteur, en qui l’on peut avoir confiance. Tu t’es montré fidèle en peu de choses. C’est pourquoi je t’en confierai de plus importantes. Viens partager la joie de ton maître ! »
22 Celui qui avait reçu les deux lingots se présenta aussi et dit : « Maître, tu m’avais remis deux lingots, j’en ai gagné deux autres. Les voici.
23 – Très bien, lui dit son maître, tu es un bon serviteur, en qui l’on peut avoir confiance. Tu t’es montré fidèle en peu de choses. C’est pourquoi je t’en confierai de plus importantes. Viens partager la joie de ton maître ! »
24 Enfin, celui qui n’avait reçu qu’un lingot vint à son tour et dit : « Maître, je savais que tu es un homme dur : tu moissonnes là où tu n’as rien semé, tu récoltes où tu n’as pas répandu de semence. 25 Alors, j’ai pris peur et je suis allé cacher ton argent dans la terre. Voilà : prends ce qui t’appartient. »
26 Mais son maître lui répondit : « Vaurien ! Fainéant ! Tu savais que je moissonne là où je n’ai rien semé et que je récolte là où je n’ai pas répandu de semence ! 27 Eh bien, tu aurais dû placer mon argent chez les banquiers et, à mon retour, j’aurais récupéré le capital et les intérêts. 28 Qu’on lui retire donc le lingot et qu’on le donne à celui qui en a déjà dix.
29 Car à celui qui a, on donnera encore, et il sera dans l’abondance. Mais à celui qui n’a pas, on ôtera même ce qu’il a. 30 Quant à ce vaurien, jetez-le dans les ténèbres du dehors, où il y aura des pleurs et d’amers regrets. »
Le jugement dernier
31 Quand le Fils de l’homme viendra dans sa gloire, avec tous ses anges, il prendra place sur son trône glorieux. 32 Tous les peuples de la terre seront rassemblés devant lui. Alors il les divisera en deux groupes – tout comme le berger fait le tri entre les brebis et les boucs. 33 Il placera les brebis à sa droite et les boucs à sa gauche. 34 Après quoi, le roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa droite : « Venez, vous qui êtes bénis par mon Père : prenez possession du royaume qu’il a préparé pour vous depuis la création du monde. 35 Car j’ai eu faim, et vous m’avez donné à manger. J’ai eu soif, et vous m’avez donné à boire. J’étais un étranger, et vous m’avez accueilli chez vous. 36 J’étais nu, et vous m’avez donné des vêtements. J’étais malade, et vous m’avez soigné. J’étais en prison, et vous êtes venus à moi. »
37 Alors, les justes lui demanderont : « Mais, Seigneur, quand t’avons-nous vu avoir faim, et t’avons-nous donné à manger ? Ou avoir soif, et t’avons-nous donné à boire ? 38 Ou quand t’avons-nous vu étranger et t’avons-nous accueilli ? Ou nu, et t’avons-nous vêtu ? 39 Ou malade ou prisonnier, et sommes-nous venus te rendre visite ? »
40 Et le roi leur répondra : « Vraiment, je vous l’assure : chaque fois que vous avez fait cela à l’un de ces plus petits de mes frères, c’est à moi-même que vous l’avez fait. »
41 Puis il se tournera vers ceux qui seront à sa gauche : « Retirez-vous loin de moi, vous que Dieu a maudits, et allez dans le feu éternel préparé pour le diable et ses anges. 42 Car j’ai eu faim, et vous ne m’avez rien donné à manger. J’ai eu soif, et vous ne m’avez rien donné à boire. 43 J’étais un étranger, et vous ne m’avez pas accueilli chez vous. J’étais nu, et vous ne m’avez pas donné de vêtements. J’étais malade et en prison, et vous n’avez pas pris soin de moi. »
44 Alors, ils lui demanderont à leur tour : « Mais, Seigneur, quand t’avons-nous vu souffrant de la faim ou de la soif ; quand t’avons-nous vu étranger, nu, malade ou en prison, et avons-nous négligé de te rendre service ? »
45 Alors il leur répondra : « Vraiment, je vous l’assure : chaque fois que vous n’avez pas fait cela à l’un de ces plus petits, c’est à moi que vous avez manqué de le faire. »
46 Et ils s’en iront au châtiment éternel. Tandis que les justes entreront dans la vie éternelle.

6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’(F)
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet.(G) And the door was shut.
11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’(H)
13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.(I)
The Parable of the Bags of Gold(J)
14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey,(K) who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability.(L) Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.(M) 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’
21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.(N) Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’
23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.(O) Come and share your master’s happiness!’
24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.(P) 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’(Q)
The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes(R) in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.(S) 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate(T) the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.(U) 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom(V) prepared for you since the creation of the world.(W) 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,(X) 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me,(Y) I was sick and you looked after me,(Z) I was in prison and you came to visit me.’(AA)
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’(AB)
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me,(AC) you who are cursed, into the eternal fire(AD) prepared for the devil and his angels.(AE) 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’(AF)
