Os religiosos pedem um sinal
(Mc 8.11-13; Lc 12.54-56)
16 Um dia, os fariseus e os saduceus foram ter com Jesus para o porem à prova, e pediram-lhe que lhes mostrasse um sinal do céu. 2 Mas ele respondeu: “Vocês sabem que um céu vermelho à tardinha significa bom tempo para a manhã seguinte. 3 Céu vermelho pela manhã é mau tempo para o dia inteiro. Contudo, não sabem ler os sinais dos tempos! 4 Pede esta geração má e adúltera um sinal, mas não receberá nenhum, a não ser o de Jonas! Então deixou-os e foi-se embora.”
O fermento dos fariseus e saduceus
(Mc 8.14-21)
5 Chegados ao outro lado do lago, os discípulos notaram que se tinham esquecido de levar comida. 6 “Cuidado!”, avisou Jesus. “Prestem atenção, tenham cuidado com o fermento dos fariseus e dos saduceus.”
7 E julgaram que dissesse isto por se terem esquecido de levar pão. 8 Jesus, porém, lendo os seus pensamentos, disse-lhes: “Homens de pouca fé! Porque se preocupam tanto por não terem pão? 9 Nunca chegaram a compreender? Já não se lembram dos 5000 que alimentei com cinco pães e dos cestos cheios que sobraram? 10 Ou dos 4000 que sustentei e do que ainda sobejou? 11 Como é que não compreenderam que não me estava a referir à comida? Uma vez mais vos digo: acautelem-se do fermento dos fariseus e dos saduceus.” 12 Só então perceberam que, ao falar em fermento, se referia às doutrinas dos fariseus e dos saduceus.
A confissão de Pedro acerca de Jesus
(Mc 8.27-30; Lc 9.18-21)
13 Quando chegou a Cesareia de Filipe, Jesus perguntou aos discípulos: “Quem diz o povo que é o Filho do Homem?”
14 “Bem, alguns dizem que és João Batista, outros que és Elias, outros ainda que és Jeremias ou um dos outros profetas.”
15 Então perguntou-lhes: “E vocês, quem pensam que eu sou?”
16 Simão Pedro respondeu: “Tu és o Cristo, o Filho do Deus vivo!”
17 “Feliz és tu, Simão, filho de Jonas, porque quem te revelou isso foi o meu Pai que está nos céus; não é pensamento humano. 18 Tu és Pedro e sobre esta pedra edificarei a minha igreja; as forças todas do inferno nada poderão fazer contra ela. 19 Dar-te-ei as chaves do reino dos céus; tudo o que proibires na Terra será proibido no céu e tudo o que permitires na Terra será permitido nos céus.”
20 Então avisou os discípulos de que não deveriam divulgar ainda que ele era o Cristo.
Jesus prediz a sua morte
(Mc 8.31-33; Lc 9.22)
21 A partir daí, começou a explicar aos discípulos que estava destinado a ir para Jerusalém e a passar por muitos sofrimentos, ser rejeitado pelos anciãos[a], pelos principais sacerdotes e pelos especialistas na Lei e ser morto, mas três dias depois ressuscitaria.
22 Pedro chamou-o à parte e começou a repreendê-lo: “Deus o não permita, Senhor! Isso não te há de acontecer!”
23 Mas Jesus, voltando-se para ele, respondeu: “Vai para trás de mim, Satanás! És um motivo de escândalo para mim. Vês as coisas do ponto de vista humano e não do ponto de vista de Deus.”
Como ser um discípulo de Cristo
(Mc 8.34–9.1; Lc 9.23-27)
24 E disse aos discípulos: “Se alguém quiser ser meu seguidor tem de esquecer-se de si próprio, tomar a sua cruz e seguir-me. 25 Quem quiser salvar a sua vida perdê-la-á. E quem perder a sua vida por minha causa encontrá-la-á. 26 Que lucro terá o homem em ganhar o mundo inteiro e causar dano à própria vida? Haverá alguma coisa mais valiosa do que a própria vida da pessoa? 27 Porque eu, o Filho do Homem, virei com os meus anjos na glória de meu Pai e julgarei cada qual conforme as suas obras. 28 É realmente como vos digo: alguns dos que estão aqui agora não morrerão sem ver o Filho do Homem chegar no seu reino!”

The Pharisees and Sadducees Test Jesus
16 (A)And the (B)Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him, they (C)asked Him to show them [a]a sign from heaven. 2 But He replied to them, “[b](D)When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ 3 And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ (E)Do you know how to discern the [c]appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times? 4 (F)An evil and adulterous generation eagerly seeks for [d]a sign; and [e]a sign will not be given it, except the [f]sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.
5 And coming to the other side of the sea, the disciples had forgotten to bring bread. 6 And Jesus said to them, “Watch out and (G)beware of the [g]leaven of the (H)Pharisees and Sadducees.” 7 Now they began to discuss this among themselves, saying, “He said that because we did not bring bread.” 8 But Jesus, aware of this, said, “(I)You men of little faith, why do you discuss among yourselves that you have no bread? 9 Do you not yet understand or remember (J)the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets full you picked up? 10 Or (K)the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many large baskets full you picked up? 11 How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But (L)beware of the [h]leaven of the (M)Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the (N)Pharisees and Sadducees.
Peter Confesses Jesus Is the Christ
13 (O)Now when Jesus came into the district of (P)Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, saying, “Who do people say that (Q)the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say (R)John the Baptist; and others, [i](S)Elijah; but still others, [j]Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” 15 He *said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, “You are [k](T)the Christ, (U)the Son of (V)the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, (W)Simon [l]Bar-Jonah, because (X)flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are [m](Y)Peter, and upon this [n]rock I will build My church; and the gates of (Z)Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you (AA)the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and (AB)whatever you bind on earth [o]shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth [p]shall have been loosed in heaven.” 20 (AC)Then He [q]warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the [r](AD)Christ.
Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection
21 (AE)From that time [s]Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and (AF)suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day. 22 And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “[t]God forbid it, Lord! This shall never [u]happen to You.” 23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, (AG)Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on [v]God’s interests, but man’s.”
Take Up Your Cross
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and (AH)take up his cross and follow Me. 25 For (AI)whoever wishes to save his [w]life will lose it; but whoever loses his [x]life for My sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the (AJ)Son of Man (AK)is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and (AL)will then [y]repay each one according to his [z]deeds.
28 “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the (AM)Son of Man (AN)coming in His kingdom.”
