Jesús puesto a prueba en el desierto
4 Después de esto, el Espíritu llevó a Jesús al desierto para que el diablo lo pusiera a prueba. 2 Jesús ayunó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, y al final sintió hambre. 3 Entonces se le acercó el diablo y le dijo:
— Si de veras eres Hijo de Dios, di que estas piedras se conviertan en pan.
4 Jesús le contestó:
— Las Escrituras dicen: No sólo de pan vivirá el hombre, sino de toda palabra pronunciada por Dios.
5 El diablo lo llevó luego a la ciudad santa, lo subió al alero del Templo 6 y le dijo:
— Si de veras eres Hijo de Dios, tírate abajo, porque dicen las Escrituras: Dios ordenará a sus ángeles que cuiden de ti y te tomen en sus manos para que tu pie no tropiece con ninguna piedra.
7 Jesús le contestó:
— También dicen las Escrituras: No pondrás a prueba al Señor tu Dios.
8 De nuevo el diablo lo llevó a un monte muy alto y, mostrándole todas las naciones del mundo y su esplendor, 9 le dijo:
— Yo te daré todo esto si te arrodillas ante mí y me adoras.
10 Pero Jesús le replicó:
— Vete de aquí, Satanás, pues dicen las Escrituras: Al Señor tu Dios adorarás y sólo a él darás culto.
11 El diablo se apartó entonces de Jesús, y llegaron los ángeles para servirle.
III.— ANUNCIO DEL REINO EN GALILEA (4,12—18,35)
Primera actividad de Jesús (4,12-25)
Jesús inicia su actividad (Mc 1,14-15; Lc 4,1-13)
12 Al enterarse Jesús de que Juan había sido encarcelado, se retiró a Galilea. 13 Pero no fue a Nazaret sino que fijó su residencia en Cafarnaún, junto al lago, en los términos de Zabulón y Neftalí, 14 en cumplimiento de lo dicho por medio del profeta Isaías:
15 ¡Tierra de Zabulón y Neftalí,
camino del mar, al oriente del Jordán,
Galilea de los paganos!
16 El pueblo sumido en las tinieblas
vio una luz resplandeciente;
a los que vivían en país de sombra de muerte,
una luz los alumbró.
17 A partir de aquel momento, Jesús comenzó a predicar diciendo:
— Conviértanse, porque ya está cerca el reino de los cielos.
Llamamiento de los primeros discípulos (Mc 1,16-20; Lc 5,1.10-11)
18 Iba Jesús paseando por la orilla del lago de Galilea, cuando vio a dos hermanos: Simón, también llamado Pedro, y su hermano Andrés. Eran pescadores, y estaban echando la red en el lago. 19 Jesús les dijo:
— Vengan conmigo y los haré pescadores de hombres.
20 Ellos dejaron de inmediato punto sus redes y se fueron con él. 21 Más adelante vio a otros dos hermanos: Santiago y Juan, los hijos de Zebedeo, que estaban en la barca con su padre, reparando las redes. Los llamó, 22 y ellos, dejando en seguida la barca y a su padre, lo siguieron.
Jesús enseña y cura
23 Jesús recorría toda Galilea enseñando en las sinagogas judías. Anunciaba la buena noticia del Reino y curaba toda clase de enfermedades y dolencias de la gente. 24 Su fama se extendió por toda Siria, y le traían a todos los que padecían algún mal: a los que sufrían diferentes enfermedades y dolores, y también a endemoniados, lunáticos y paralíticos. Y Jesús los curaba. 25 Así que lo seguía una enorme muchedumbre procedente de Galilea, de la Decápolis, de Jerusalén, de Judea y de la orilla oriental del Jordán.

El diablo pone a prueba a Jesús(A)
4 Luego el Espíritu llevó a Jesús al desierto, para que el diablo lo pusiera a prueba.
2 Estuvo cuarenta días y cuarenta noches sin comer, y después sintió hambre. 3 El diablo se acercó entonces a Jesús para ponerlo a prueba, y le dijo:
—Si de veras eres Hijo de Dios, ordena que estas piedras se conviertan en panes.
4 Pero Jesús le contestó:
—La Escritura dice: “No sólo de pan vivirá el hombre, sino también de toda palabra que salga de los labios de Dios.”
5 Luego el diablo lo llevó a la santa ciudad de Jerusalén, lo subió a la parte más alta del templo 6 y le dijo:
—Si de veras eres Hijo de Dios, tírate abajo; porque la Escritura dice:
“Dios mandará que sus ángeles te cuiden.
Te levantarán con sus manos,
para que no tropieces con piedra alguna.”
7 Jesús le contestó:
—También dice la Escritura: “No pongas a prueba al Señor tu Dios.”
8 Finalmente el diablo lo llevó a un cerro muy alto, y mostrándole todos los países del mundo y la grandeza de ellos, 9 le dijo:
—Yo te daré todo esto, si te arrodillas y me adoras.
10 Jesús le contestó:
—Vete, Satanás, porque la Escritura dice: “Adora al Señor tu Dios, y sírvele sólo a él.”
11 Entonces el diablo se apartó de Jesús, y unos ángeles acudieron a servirle.
Jesús comienza su actividad en Galilea(B)
12 Cuando Jesús oyó que habían metido a Juan en la cárcel, se dirigió a Galilea. 13 Pero no se quedó en Nazaret, sino que se fue a vivir a Cafarnaúm, a orillas del lago, en la región de las tribus de Zabulón y Neftalí. 14 Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que había escrito el profeta Isaías:
15 «Tierra de Zabulón y de Neftalí,
al otro lado del Jordán,
a la orilla del mar:
Galilea, donde viven los paganos.
16 El pueblo que andaba en la oscuridad
vio una gran luz;
una luz ha brillado
para los que vivían en sombras de muerte.»
17 Desde entonces Jesús comenzó a proclamar: «Vuélvanse a Dios, porque el reino de los cielos está cerca.»
Jesús llama a cuatro pescadores(C)
18 Jesús iba caminando por la orilla del Lago de Galilea, cuando vio a dos hermanos: uno era Simón, también llamado Pedro, y el otro Andrés. Eran pescadores, y estaban echando la red al agua. 19 Jesús les dijo:
—Síganme, y yo los haré pescadores de hombres.
20 Al momento dejaron sus redes y se fueron con él.
21 Un poco más adelante, Jesús vio a otros dos hermanos: Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, que estaban con su padre en una barca arreglando las redes. Jesús los llamó, 22 y en seguida ellos dejaron la barca y a su padre, y lo siguieron.
Jesús enseña a mucha gente(D)
23 Jesús recorría toda Galilea, enseñando en la sinagoga de cada lugar. Anunciaba la buena noticia del reino y curaba a la gente de todas sus enfermedades y dolencias. 24 Se hablaba de Jesús en toda la región de Siria, y le traían a cuantos sufrían de diferentes males, enfermedades y dolores, y a los endemoniados, a los epilépticos y a los paralíticos. Y Jesús los sanaba.
25 Mucha gente de Galilea, de los pueblos de Decápolis, de Jerusalén, de Judea y de la región al oriente del Jordán seguía a Jesús.

Tentación de Jesús

4 Entonces Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto, para ser tentado por el diablo.(A) 2 Y después de haber ayunado cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, tuvo hambre. 3 Y vino a él el tentador, y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, di que estas piedras se conviertan en pan. 4 Él respondió y dijo: Escrito está: No solo de pan vivirá el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios.(B) 5 Entonces el diablo le llevó a la santa ciudad, y le puso sobre el pináculo del templo, 6 y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, échate abajo; porque escrito está:
A sus ángeles mandará acerca de ti,(C)
y,
En sus manos te sostendrán,
Para que no tropieces con tu pie en piedra.(D)
7 Jesús le dijo: Escrito está también: No tentarás al Señor tu Dios.(E) 8 Otra vez le llevó el diablo a un monte muy alto, y le mostró todos los reinos del mundo y la gloria de ellos, 9 y le dijo: Todo esto te daré, si postrado me adorares. 10 Entonces Jesús le dijo: Vete, Satanás, porque escrito está: Al Señor tu Dios adorarás, y a él sólo servirás.(F) 11 El diablo entonces le dejó; y he aquí vinieron ángeles y le servían.
Jesús principia su ministerio

12 Cuando Jesús oyó que Juan estaba preso,(G) volvió a Galilea; 13 y dejando a Nazaret, vino y habitó en Capernaum,(H) ciudad marítima, en la región de Zabulón y de Neftalí, 14 para que se cumpliese lo dicho por el profeta Isaías, cuando dijo:
15 Tierra de Zabulón y tierra de Neftalí,
Camino del mar, al otro lado del Jordán,
Galilea de los gentiles;
16 El pueblo asentado en tinieblas vio gran luz;
Y a los asentados en región de sombra de muerte,
Luz les resplandeció.(I)
17 Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a predicar, y a decir: Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos(J) se ha acercado.(K) 18 Andando Jesús junto al mar de Galilea, vio a dos hermanos, Simón, llamado Pedro, y Andrés su hermano, que echaban la red en el mar; porque eran pescadores. 19 Y les dijo: Venid en pos de mí, y os haré pescadores de hombres. 20 Ellos entonces, dejando al instante las redes, le siguieron. 21 Pasando de allí, vio a otros dos hermanos, Jacobo hijo de Zebedeo, y Juan su hermano, en la barca con Zebedeo su padre, que remendaban sus redes; y los llamó. 22 Y ellos, dejando al instante la barca y a su padre, le siguieron.
23 Y recorrió Jesús toda Galilea, enseñando en las sinagogas de ellos, y predicando el evangelio del reino, y sanando toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo.(L) 24 Y se difundió su fama por toda Siria; y le trajeron todos los que tenían dolencias, los afligidos por diversas enfermedades y tormentos, los endemoniados, lunáticos y paralíticos; y los sanó. 25 Y le siguió mucha gente de Galilea, de Decápolis, de Jerusalén, de Judea y del otro lado del Jordán.

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness(A)
4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a](B) by the devil.(C) 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights,(D) he was hungry. 3 The tempter(E) came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God,(F) tell these stones to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”(G)
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city(H) and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,”(I) he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”(J)
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]”(K)
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan!(L) For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]”(M)
11 Then the devil left him,(N) and angels came and attended him.(O)
Jesus Begins to Preach
12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison,(P) he withdrew to Galilee.(Q) 13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum,(R) which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— 14 to fulfill(S) what was said through the prophet Isaiah:
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”[f](T)
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven(U) has come near.”
Jesus Calls His First Disciples(V)
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee,(W) he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter(X) and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,”(Y) Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.(Z)
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John.(AA) They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.(AB)
Jesus Heals the Sick
23 Jesus went throughout Galilee,(AC) teaching in their synagogues,(AD) proclaiming the good news(AE) of the kingdom,(AF) and healing every disease and sickness among the people.(AG) 24 News about him spread all over Syria,(AH) and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed,(AI) those having seizures,(AJ) and the paralyzed;(AK) and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis,[g] Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.(AL)

21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
