열 처녀 이야기
25 그때에 하늘나라는 신랑을 맞으러 나가는 열 처녀에 비길 수 있을 것이다. 처녀들은 등을 들고 나갔다. 2 그 가운데 다섯 처녀는 어리석었고, 나머지 다섯 처녀는 슬기로웠다. 3 어리석은 처녀들은 등은 들고 갔으나, 기름 항아리는 들고 가지 않았다. 4 슬기로운 처녀들은 등도 가지고 가고, 기름을 담은 항아리도 들고 갔다. 5 늦도록 기다렸으나 신랑은 오지 않고 처녀들은 모두 지쳐서 졸다가 잠이 들었다.
6 그런데 밤이 깊었을 때 누군가가 소리쳤다. ‘신랑이 오신다! 모두들 나가서 그분을 맞아라!’
7 그러자 처녀들이 모두 잠에서 깨어 제각기 등불을 준비했다. 8 그러나 어리석은 처녀들은 슬기로운 처녀들에게 ‘우리의 등불이 꺼져 가니 너희가 갖고 있는 기름을 조금만 나누어 다오.’ 하고 말하였다.
9 슬기로운 처녀들이 대답하였다. ‘안 되겠어! 너희에게 기름을 나누어 주면 우리에게도 또 너희에게도 모두 모자랄지 몰라. 그러니 기름 파는 사람한테 가서 기름을 사는 게 좋겠다.’
10 그래서 어리석은 다섯 처녀는 기름을 사러 갔다. 그들이 기름을 사러 간 사이에 신랑이 왔다. 등불을 켜고 기다리고 있던 처녀들이 신랑과 함께 혼인 잔치에 들어가자 문이 닫혔다.
11 그 뒤에 기름을 사러 갔던 처녀들이 왔다. 이 처녀들은 ‘주님, 주님, 문 좀 열어 주세요.’ 하고 애원하였다.
12 그러나 신랑은 ‘분명히 말하지만, 나는 너희를 알지 못한다.’ 라고 대답하였다.
13 그러니 항상 깨어 있어라. 너희는 사람의 아들이 어느 날 어느 시간에 올지 모르기 때문이다.
세 종의 비유
(눅 19:11-27)
14 또 하늘나라는 이런 사람에 비길 수 있다. 어떤 사람이 길을 떠나기에 앞서, 종들에게 자기가 없는 동안에 자기 재산을 잘 관리하라고 일렀다. 15 그는 각 사람의 능력에 따라, 첫째 종에게 다섯 달란트[a]를 주고, 둘째 종에게는 두 달란트를 주고, 셋째 종에게는 한 달란트를 주었다. 그러고 나서 그는 길을 떠났다. 16 다섯 달란트를 맡은 종은 서둘러 돈을 불리러 갔다. 그래서 다섯 달란트가 열 달란트로 늘어났다. 17 두 달란트를 맡은 종도 첫째 종과 똑같이 하였다. 그가 맡은 두 달란트가 이제 네 달란트로 늘었다. 18 그러나 한 달란트를 맡은 셋째 종은 땅에 구덩이를 파고 주인의 돈을 거기에 묻었다.
19 오랜 뒤에 주인이 돌아와 종들과 셈을 하게 되었다. 20 먼저 다섯 달란트를 받았던 종은 자기가 따로 모은 다섯 달란트를 함께 가지고 와서 말하였다. ‘주인어른, 어르신께서 저에게 다섯 달란트를 맡기셨습니다. 저는 그 돈을 가지고 다섯 달란트를 더 벌었습니다.’
21 주인이 대답하였다. ‘잘했다. 너는 믿을 만한 착한 종이구나. 네가 작은 일을 충실하게 하였으니, 너에게 훨씬 큰 일을 맡기겠다. 와서 나와 함께 기쁨을 나누자.’
22 그 다음 두 달란트를 맡았던 종이 주인에게 와서 말하였다. ‘주인어른, 어른께서 저에게 두 달란트를 맡기셨습니다. 저는 그 돈을 가지고 두 달란트를 더 벌었습니다.’
23 주인이 대답하였다. ‘잘했다. 너는 믿을 만한 착한 종이구나. 너는 작은 일을 충실하게 하였으니, 너에게 훨씬 큰 일을 맡기겠다. 와서 나와 함께 기쁨을 나누자.’
24 그리고 나서 한 달란트를 맡았던 종이 주인에게 와서 말하였다. ‘주인어른, 어른께서는 아주 엄한 분이십니다. 어른께서는 심지 않은 곳에서도 거두시고, 씨 뿌리지 않은 곳에서도 곡식을 모으십니다. 25 저는 그 돈을 잃지나 않을까 겁이 났습니다. 그래서 주인어른의 돈을 땅에 묻어 두었습니다. 받으십시오. 어른께서 주신 한 달란트입니다.’
26 주인이 대답하였다. ‘너는 게으르고 악한 종이구나! 너는 내가 심지 않은 곳에서도 거두고, 씨 뿌리지 않은 곳에서도 곡식을 모은다고 말하였다. 27 그렇다면 네가 내 돈을 은행에 넣어 두었어야 마땅하다. 그러면 내가 돌아왔을 때, 내 돈을 다시 찾고 또 내 돈에서 불어난 이자도 함께 받을 수 있었을 것이다.
28 이 종이 가지고 있는 돈을 빼앗아서 열 달란트를 가진 종에게 주어라. 29 누구든지 자기가 가진 것을 잘 쓰는 사람은 더 얻을 것이다. 그 사람은 자기가 필요한 것보다 훨씬 많은 것을 얻을 것이다. 그러나 자기가 가진 것을 쓰지 않는 사람은 가진 것조차 모두 빼앗길 것이다. 30 이 종은 아무짝에도 쓸모가 없는 자이다. 그를 바깥 어두운 곳으로 내쫓아라! 거기서 슬피 울며 이를 갈 것이다.’
사람의 아들이 모든 사람을 심판할 것이다
31 사람의 아들이 영광에 둘러싸여서 천사들과 더불어 올 때에, 그는 하늘의 영광 가운데 자기의 보좌에 앉을 것이다. 32 그는 모든 민족을 자기 앞으로 불러 모아 목자가 양과 염소를 가르듯이, 그들을 두 무리로 갈라놓을 것이다. 33 그는 양들은 자기의 오른쪽으로 염소들은 왼쪽으로 세울 것이다.
34 그때에 임금은 오른쪽에 있는 사람들에게 말할 것이다. ‘오너라. 내 아버지께서 너희에게 큰 복을 내리셨다. 와서, 하나님께서 약속하신 나라를 차지하여라. 이 나라는 세상이 만들어질 때부터 너희를 위해 준비하여 둔 것이다. 35 너희는 내가 배고플 때에 먹을 것을 주었고, 내가 목마를 때에 마실 것을 주었다. 내가 집을 떠나 홀로 있을 때에 너희는 나를 너희 집으로 초대하였다. 36 내가 입을 옷이 없을 때에 너희는 입을 것을 주었고, 내가 아플 때에 너희는 나를 돌봐 주었으며, 내가 감옥에 있을 때에 나를 찾아와 주었다.’
37 그때에 의로운 사람들이 대답할 것이다. ‘주님, 언제 저희가 주께서 배고픈 것을 보고 먹을 것을 드렸습니까? 언제 주께서 목마르신 것을 보고 마실 것을 드렸습니까? 38 언제 주께서 집을 떠나 홀로 계신 것을 보고 저희 집으로 초대하였습니까? 언제 주께서 입을 것이 없는 것을 보고 입을 것을 드렸습니까? 39 언제 주께서 병드시거나, 감옥에 계신 것을 보고 주를 찾아뵈었습니까?’
40 임금은 이렇게 대답할 것이다. ‘너희에게 분명히 말한다. 너희가 여기 있는 내 형제자매[b] 가운데 가장 보잘 것 없는 사람 하나에게 베푼 것이, 바로 내게 베푼 것이다.’
41 임금은 왼쪽에 있는 사람들에게 말할 것이다. ‘이 저주 받은 자들아 내게서 떠나라. 하나님께서 악마와 그 졸개들을 가두려고 마련한 영원히 꺼지지 않는 불 속으로 들어가거라. 42 너희는 내가 배고플 때에 먹을 것을 주지 않았으며, 내가 목마를 때에 마실 것을 주지 않았다. 43 너희는 내가 집을 떠나 홀로 있을 때에 나를 너희 집에 초대하지 않았고, 내가 입을 것이 없을 때에 나에게 입을 것을 주지 않았으며, 내가 아플 때와 감옥에 있을 때에 나를 돌보지 않았다.’
44 그때에 그들이 대답할 것이다. ‘주님, 언제 우리가 주께서 배고프시고 목마르신 것을 보았습니까? 언제 우리가 주께서 집을 떠나 홀로 계신 것을 보았습니까? 그리고 언제 우리가 주께서 입을 것이 없거나 병들거나 감옥에 계신 것을 보았습니까? 우리가 언제 그런 일들이 있을 때 주를 도와드리지 않았습니까?’
45 그때에 임금이 말할 것이다. ‘너희에게 분명히 말한다. 너희가 여기 있는 이 사람들 가운데 가장 보잘 것 없는 한 사람에게 하지 않은 것이, 곧 내게 하지 않은 것이다.’
46 그리하여 그들은 영원한 벌을 받을 것이다. 그러나 의로운 사람들은 영원한 생명의 나라로 들어갈 것이다.”

The Parable of the Ten Virgins
25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like(A) ten virgins who took their lamps(B) and went out to meet the bridegroom.(C) 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise.(D) 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.(E)
6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’(F)
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet.(G) And the door was shut.
11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’(H)
13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.(I)
The Parable of the Bags of Gold(J)
14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey,(K) who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability.(L) Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.(M) 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’
21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.(N) Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’
23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.(O) Come and share your master’s happiness!’
24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.(P) 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’(Q)
The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes(R) in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.(S) 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate(T) the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.(U) 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom(V) prepared for you since the creation of the world.(W) 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,(X) 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me,(Y) I was sick and you looked after me,(Z) I was in prison and you came to visit me.’(AA)
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’(AB)
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me,(AC) you who are cursed, into the eternal fire(AD) prepared for the devil and his angels.(AE) 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’(AF)
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.(AG)”(AH)
