Isus šalje apostole
(Mk 3,13-19; 6,7-13; Lk 6,12-16; 9,1-6)
10 Isus je pozvao svojih dvanaestoricu učenika i dao im vlast da istjeruju zle duhove i da liječe svaku slabost i svaku bolest. 2 Ovo su imena dvanaestorice apostola:
Šimun—zvani Petar—i njegov brat Andrija; Jakov—Zebedejev sin i njegov brat Ivan; Filip i Bartolomej; 3 Toma i Matej—poreznik; Jakov—Alfejev sin—i Tadej; 4 Šimun Zelot i Juda Iskariotski, koji je izdao Isusa.
5 Isus je poslao ovu dvanaestoricu i naredio im: »Nemojte ići k nežidovima i nemojte ulaziti ni u jedan grad u Samariji! 6 Radije idite k izgubljenim ovcama izraelskoga naroda. 7 Idite i propovijedajte, govoreći: ‘Kraljevstvo nebesko je blizu!’ 8 Liječite bolesne, uskrisujte mrtve, ozdravljajte gubave i izgonite zle duhove! Besplatno ste primili, stoga besplatno i dajte! 9 Nemojte nositi u pojasevima ni zlata, ni srebra, ni bakra! 10 Nemojte nositi ni putne torbe, ni dodatne odjeće, ni obuće, ni štapa! Jer, radnik zaslužuje svoju hranu.
11 Kad uđete u grad ili selo, pronađite u njemu nekoga dostojnog pa ostanite kod njega sve dok ne pođete dalje! 12 Kad ulazite u takav dom, zaželite mu mir! 13 Ako je dom dostojan, neka vaš mir ostane u njemu, a ako nije dostojan, neka vam se vaš mir vrati. 14 Ako vas tko ne bude primio ili slušao što govorite, napustite tu kuću ili grad i otresite prašinu sa svojih stopala[a]. 15 Istinu vam kažem: na dan Suda tom će gradu biti gore nego Sodomi i Gomori.«
Isus upozorava na nevolje
(Mk 13,9-13; Lk 21,12-17)
16 »Budite svjesni da vas šaljem kao ovce među vukove. Stoga, budite mudri kao zmije i bezazleni kao golubovi! 17 Čuvajte se ljudi, jer će vas predavati na sud i šibati vas u svojim sinagogama. 18 Dovodit će vas pred vladare i kraljeve jer ste moji sljedbenici. To će biti prilika da o meni svjedočite njima i nežidovima. 19 Kad vas budu uhićivali, ne brinite se što i kako ćete govoriti, jer će vam toga trena biti dano što da kažete. 20 Stoga, nećete govoriti vi, nego će Duh vašeg Oca govoriti kroz vas.
21 Brat će predavati brata da ga ubiju, a otac svoje dijete. Djeca će se okrenuti protiv roditelja i ubijati ih. 22 Svi će vas ljudi mrziti zbog moga imena, ali oni koji ustraju do kraja, bit će spašeni. 23 Kad vas budu progonili u jednom gradu, pobjegnite u drugi. Istinu vam kažem: nećete stići obići sve izraelske gradove prije ponovnog dolaska Sina Čovječjega.
24 Učenik nije veći od učitelja niti je sluga veći od svoga gospodara. 25 Dovoljno je učeniku da bude kao njegov učitelj, a slugi da bude kao njegov gospodar. Ako su glavu obitelji nazivali Sotonom[b], koliko li će tek gore nazivati njegove ukućane?«
Bojte se Boga, a ne ljudi
(Lk 12,2-7)
26 »Dakle, nemojte ih se bojati, jer sve što je skriveno, bit će otkriveno i, sve što je tajno, saznat će se. 27 Ono što vam govorim u tajnosti, recite u javnosti! I što vam šapućem na uho, razglasite svima javno! 28 Nemojte se bojati onih koji mogu ubiti vaše tijelo, ali ne mogu ubiti vašu dušu! Radije se bojte Boga koji može uništiti i dušu i tijelo u paklu. 29 Za samo jedan novčić[c] možete kupiti dva vrapca. No ni jedan od njih neće uginuti ako to ne dopusti vaš Otac. 30 Vama su čak i vlasi na glavi izbrojene. 31 Dakle, nemojte se bojati, jer ste vredniji od mnoštva vrabaca.«
Priznati Isusa

32 »Tko god mene prizna pred ljudima—pripada meni. I ja ću priznati pred mojim Ocem, koji je na nebu, da on pripada meni. 33 Tko god se odrekne mene pred ljudima—ne pripada meni. I ja ću ga se odreći pred svojim Ocem koji je na nebu.«
Nevolje zbog Isusa
(Lk 12,51-53; 14,26-27)
34 »Nemojte misliti da sam došao donijeti mir na zemlju. Nisam došao donijeti mir, nego mač. 35 Jer, došao sam okrenuti:
‘sina protiv oca, kćer protiv majke,
snahu protiv svekrve.
36 Čovjeku će biti neprijatelji
vlastiti ukućani.’[d]
37 Tko voli oca ili majku više nego mene, nije me dostojan slijediti. Tko voli svoga sina ili kćer više nego mene, nije me dostojan slijediti. 38 Tko ne uzme svoj križ i ne ide za mnom, nije me dostojan. 39 Tko voli svoj život više nego mene, izgubit će ga. Ali onaj tko izgubi svoj život radi mene, sačuvat će ga.«
Bog blagoslivlja one koji vas primaju

40 »Tko prima vas, prima i mene, a tko prima mene, prima i Onoga koji me poslao. 41 Tko prima proroka zato što je prorok, primit će proročku nagradu. Tko prima pravednog čovjeka zato što je pravedan, primit će nagradu pravednika. 42 A tko pruži samo čašu hladne vode jednomu od ovih malenih, zato što je moj učenik, zaista, kažem vam, sigurno neće izgubiti svoju nagradu.«

The Twelve Disciples; Instructions for Service
10 Jesus (A)summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to (B)heal every disease and every sickness.
2 (C)Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, (D)Simon, who is called Peter, and his brother (E)Andrew; and [a](F)James the son of Zebedee, and his brother [b]John; 3 (G)Philip and [c]Bartholomew; (H)Thomas and (I)Matthew the tax collector; [d](J)James the son of Alphaeus, and (K)Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the [e]Zealot, and (L)Judas Iscariot, the one who also betrayed Him.
5 (M)These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them, saying, “Do not go on a road [f]to Gentiles, and do not enter a city of (N)Samaritans; 6 but rather go to (O)the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, [g]preach, saying, ‘(P)The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those with leprosy, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. 9 (Q)Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts, 10 or a [h]bag for your journey, or even two [i]tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for (R)the worker is deserving of his [j]support. 11 And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay [k]at his house until you leave that city. 12 As you enter the [l]house, (S)give it your [m]greeting. 13 If the house is worthy, see that your blessing of peace comes upon it. But if it is not worthy, [n]take back your blessing of peace. 14 And whoever does not receive you nor listen to your words, as you leave that house or city, (T)shake the dust off your feet. 15 Truly I say to you, (U)it will be more tolerable for the land of (V)Sodom and Gomorrah on (W)the day of judgment, than for that city.
A Hard Road Ahead of Them
16 “(X)Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be as (Y)wary as serpents, and as (Z)innocent as doves. 17 But be on guard against people, for they will hand you over to the (AA)courts and flog you (AB)in their synagogues; 18 and you will even be brought before governors and kings on My account, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19 (AC)But when they hand you over, (AD)do not worry about how or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given you in that hour. 20 For (AE)it is not you who are speaking, but it is the Spirit of your Father who is speaking [o]in you.
21 “Now (AF)brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and (AG)children will rise up against parents and [p]cause them to be put to death. 22 And (AH)you will be hated by all because of My name, but (AI)it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.
23 “But whenever they (AJ)persecute you in [q]one city, flee to the [r]next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel (AK)until the Son of Man comes.
The Meaning of Discipleship
24 “(AL)A [s]disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he may become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. (AM)If they have called the head of the house [t](AN)Beelzebul, how much more will they insult the members of his household!
26 “So do not (AO)fear them, (AP)for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 (AQ)What I tell you in the darkness, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim (AR)on the housetops. 28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather (AS)fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in [u](AT)hell. 29 (AU)Are two sparrows not sold for an [v]assarion? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But (AV)even the hairs of your head are all counted. 31 So do not fear; (AW)you are more valuable than a great number of sparrows.
32 “Therefore, (AX)everyone who [w]confesses Me before people, I will also confess [x]him before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But (AY)whoever denies Me before people, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
34 “(AZ)Do not think that I came to [y]bring peace on the earth; I did not come to [z]bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I came to (BA)turn a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and (BB)a person’s enemies will be the members of his household.
37 “(BC)The one who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and the one who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And (BD)the one who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 (BE)The one who has found his [aa]life will lose it, and the one who has lost his [ab]life on My account will find it.
The Reward for Service
40 “(BF)The one who [ac]receives you [ad]receives Me, and (BG)the one who [ae]receives Me [af]receives Him who sent Me. 41 (BH)The one who [ag]receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and the one who [ah]receives a righteous person in the name of a righteous person shall receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And (BI)whoever gives one of these [ai]little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(A)(B)(C)(D)(E)
10 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits(F) and to heal every disease and sickness.(G)
2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.(H)
5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.(I) 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.(J) 7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven(K) has come near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
9 “Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts(L)— 10 no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.(M) 11 Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave. 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting.(N) 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.(O) 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah(P) on the day of judgment(Q) than for that town.(R)
16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.(S) Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.(T) 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils(U) and be flogged in the synagogues.(V) 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings(W) as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it.(X) At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father(Y) speaking through you.
21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents(Z) and have them put to death.(AA) 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me,(AB) but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(AC) 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.(AD)
24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.(AE) 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul,(AF) how much more the members of his household!
26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.(AG) 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One(AH) who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[b] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.(AI) 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.(AJ)
32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others,(AK) I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.(AL)
34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law(AM)—
36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[c](AN)
37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.(AO) 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.(AP) 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.(AQ)
40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me,(AR) and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.(AS) 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”(AT)
