De Farizeeërs maken ruzie met Jezus

7 De Farizeeërs kwamen naar Jezus. Ook kwam er een aantal wetgeleerden uit Jeruzalem naar Hem toe. 2 Ze hadden gezien dat sommige van Jezus' leerlingen met ongewassen en dus onreine handen hun brood aten. 3 (Want de Farizeeërs en alle Joden wassen altijd hun handen voor het eten.[a] Dat is een gewoonte die ze van hun voorouders hebben geleerd. 4 En als ze van de markt komen, wassen ze altijd eerst hun handen en voeten voordat ze gaan eten. Zo hebben ze nog heel veel andere gewoonten die ze van hun voorouders hebben geleerd. Ze spoelen bijvoorbeeld ook hun bekers, kannen en koperen voorwerpen en bedden met water af.) 5 En de Farizeeërs en de wetgeleerden vroegen aan Jezus: "Waarom houden uw leerlingen zich niet aan de gewoonten die we van onze voorouders hebben geleerd? Waarom eten ze met ongewassen handen?"

6 Maar Jezus antwoordde: "Wat zijn jullie toch schijnheilig! Het is waar wat de profeet Jesaja over jullie heeft geprofeteerd, toen hij zei: 'Dit volk aanbidt Mij met hun mond, maar hun hart is ver bij Mij vandaan. 7 Ze aanbidden Mij op een zinloze manier. Want wat ze de mensen leren, zijn niet mijn wetten, maar wetten die door mensen zijn bedacht.' 8 Want jullie houden je niet aan de wet van God, maar wel aan de gewoonten die mensen hebben bedacht. Want jullie wassen je kannen en bekers en doen allerlei van zulke dingen. 9 Maar jullie schuiven de wet van God keurig aan de kant om je aan jullie eigen gewoonten te kunnen houden. 10 Want Mozes heeft gezegd: 'Heb respect voor je vader en moeder en zorg voor hen.' En ook: 'Iemand die zijn vader of moeder vervloekt, moet worden gedood.' 11 Maar jullie zeggen: 'Als iemand tegen zijn vader en moeder zegt: 'Alles waarmee ik voor jullie had kunnen zorgen, heb ik aan de tempel gegeven,' dan is het goed.' 12 Dan hoeft hij van jullie niets voor zijn vader of moeder te doen. 13 Zo hebben jullie door jullie zelfbedachte gewoonten ervoor gezorgd dat het woord van God geen kracht meer heeft in jullie leven. En jullie doen heel veel van dat soort dingen."

14 Toen riep Hij de grote groep mensen naar Zich toe. En Hij zei tegen hen: "Luister allemaal en zorg dat jullie begrijpen wat Ik zeg. 15 Niet de dingen die je mond íngaan, maken je onrein. Maar de dingen die úit je mond komen, maken je onrein. 16 Als je oren hebt, moet je ook goed luisteren."

17 Toen Hij weer thuis kwam, vroegen zijn leerlingen wat Hij daarmee bedoelde. 18 Hij zei tegen hen: "Begrijpen jullie het dan óók niet? Begrijpen jullie niet dat alles wat je mond íngaat, je niet onrein kan maken? 19 Want het komt niet in je hart, maar in je buik. En op een bepaalde plaats gaat het er ook weer uit." Zo zei Hij dus dat alle soorten eten rein zijn.[b] En Hij zei: 20 "Wat uít je mond komt, maakt je onrein. 21 Want dat komt van binnenuit, uit je hart. Daar vandaan komen de slechte gedachten, verkeerde dingen op het gebied van seks, moord, 22 diefstal, ontrouw aan je man of vrouw, hebzucht, slechtheid, bedrog, gebrek aan zelfbeheersing, roddel, kwaadsprekerij, trots, onverstandigheid. 23 Al die slechte dingen komen van binnenuit naar buiten en maken je onrein."

De vrouw uit Tyrus

24 Jezus vertrok en ging naar het gebied van Tyrus en Sidon. Daar ging Hij een huis binnen. Hij wilde niet dat iemand wist waar Hij was. Maar de mensen kwamen er toch achter. 25 Al gauw hoorde een vrouw ervan dat Hij daar was. Ze had een dochtertje dat in de macht was van een duivelse geest. Ze kwam naar Hem toe en liet zich voor Hem op haar knieën vallen. 26 Deze vrouw was een Griekse, geboren in Syro-Fenicië. En ze vroeg aan Hem om de duivelse geest uit haar dochter weg te jagen. 27 Maar Hij zei tegen haar: "Het is niet goed om het brood van de kinderen aan de hondjes te geven.[c] Eerst moeten de kinderen genoeg hebben gegeten." 28 Maar ze antwoordde Hem: "Dat is waar, Heer, maar de hondjes eten toch onder de tafel de kruimels op die de kinderen laten vallen?" 29 Hij zei tegen haar: "Omdat je dit hebt gezegd, zeg Ik: Ga naar huis. De duivelse geest is uit je dochter weggegaan." 30 Toen ze thuis kwam, lag het kind gezond in bed. De duivelse geest was uit haar weg.

Jezus geneest een dove man die bijna niet kan praten

31 Jezus vertrok weer uit het gebied van Tyrus en Sidon en ging naar het meer van Galilea. Daarbij reisde Hij door de Dekapolis (= 'Tienstedengebied'). 32 Ze brachten een man naar Hem toe die doof was en maar moeilijk kon praten. Ze smeekten Hem om hem de handen op te leggen. 33 Hij nam hem apart, bij de grote groep mensen vandaan. Hij stak zijn vingers in de oren van de man, spuugde op de grond, raakte zijn tong aan, 34 keek omhoog naar de hemel en zuchtte. Toen zei Hij tegen hem: "Ga open!" 35 En de oren van de man gingen open: hij kon horen. Ook kwam zijn tong los en hij kon normaal praten. 36 Jezus verbood de mensen om het ook maar aan íemand te vertellen. Maar hoe meer Hij het verbood, hoe meer ze erover spraken. 37 De mensen waren stomverbaasd en zeiden: "Het is geweldig wat Hij doet! Hij geneest dove mensen zodat ze kunnen horen. En Hij geneest mensen die niet konden spreken, zodat ze kunnen spreken!"

  1. Markus 7:3 Het ging hierbij niet om handen wassen zoals wij dat doen, om schone handen te hebben. Het ging hier om een godsdienstige gewoonte. Het was een gewoonte die de Farizeeërs zelf hadden bedacht, maar niet iets wat moest van de wet van Mozes.
  2. Markus 7:19 God had in de wet regels gegeven over welke dieren de Joden wel en niet mochten eten. De 'onreine' dieren mochten niet gegeten worden. Lees Deuteronomium 14:3-20.

Defilement Comes from Within(A)

7 Then (B)the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. 2 Now [a]when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with (C)unwashed hands, [b]they found fault. 3 For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands [c]in a special way, holding the (D)tradition of the elders. 4 When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches.

5 (E)Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”

6 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you (F)hypocrites, as it is written:

(G)‘This people honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
7 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men—[d]the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”

9 He said to them, “All too well (H)you [e]reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, (I)‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, (J)‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, (K)“Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’ (that is, a gift to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother, 13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

14 (L)When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, and (M)understand: 15 There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that (N)defile a man. 16 (O)If[f] anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”

17 (P)When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 So He said to them, (Q)“Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, [g]thus purifying all foods?” 20 And He said, (R)“What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 (S)For from within, out of the heart of men, (T)proceed evil thoughts, (U)adulteries, (V)fornications, murders, 22 thefts, (W)covetousness, wickedness, (X)deceit, (Y)lewdness, an evil eye, (Z)blasphemy, (AA)pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

A Gentile Shows Her Faith(AB)

24 (AC)From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre [h]and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be (AD)hidden. 25 For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and (AE)fell at His feet. 26 The woman was a [i]Greek, a [j]Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept [k]asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

28 And she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.”

29 Then He said to her, “For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.”

30 And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.

Jesus Heals a Deaf-Mute(AF)

31 (AG)Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. 32 Then (AH)they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. 33 And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and (AI)He spat and touched his tongue. 34 Then, (AJ)looking up to heaven, (AK)He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.”

35 (AL)Immediately his ears were opened, and the [l]impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. 36 Then (AM)He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it. 37 And they were (AN)astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He (AO)makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”

That Which Defiles(A)

7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled,(B) that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.(C) 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a])(D)

5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders(E) instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”

6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:

“‘These people honor me with their lips,
    but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
    their teachings are merely human rules.’[b](F)

8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”(G)

9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions!(H) 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[d](I) and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[e](J) 11 But you say(K) that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God(L) by your tradition(M) that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”

14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [f]

17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him(N) about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods(O) clean.)(P)

20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed,(Q) malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith(R)

24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.[g](S) He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit(T) came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.

27 “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

28 “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

29 Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”

30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man(U)

31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre(V) and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee(W) and into the region of the Decapolis.[h](X) 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk,(Y) and they begged Jesus to place his hand on(Z) him.

33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit(AA) and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven(AB) and with a deep sigh(AC) said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.(AD)

36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone.(AE) But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

7 Nang sama-samang lumapit kay Jesus ang mga Fariseo at ilang tagapagturo ng Kautusan na nanggaling sa Jerusalem, 2 nakita nila ang ilan sa kanyang alagad na kumakaing marumi ang kamay, samakatuwid, ay hindi nahugasan ayon sa kaugalian. 3 Ang mga Fariseo at lahat ng mga Judio ay hindi kumakain nang hindi muna naghuhugas na mabuti ng mga kamay. Ginagawa nila ito bilang pagsunod sa turong minana nila sa kanilang mga ninuno. 4 Kapag nanggaling sila sa mga pamilihan, hindi sila kakain nang hindi muna naglilinis. 8 Tinatalikuran ninyo ang utos ng Diyos at niyayakap ang tradisyon ng mga tao.”

9 Sinabi pa niya sa kanila, “Napakahusay ninyong magpawalang-bisa sa utos ng Diyos, masunod lamang ang mga turong minana ninyo. 10 Isang (C) halimbawa ang sinabi ni Moises, ‘Igalang mo ang iyong ama't ina,’ at ‘Ang sinumang lumait sa ama o sa ina ay dapat mamatay!’ 11 Ngunit itinuturo naman ninyo na sinuman ang magsabi sa kanyang ama o ina, ‘Ang anumang maitutulong ko sa inyo ay Corban, ibig sabihi'y handog ko sa Diyos,’ 12 at pagkatapos ay hindi na ninyo siya hinahayaang tumulong sa kanyang ama o ina. 13 Sa gayong paraa'y pinawawalang-saysay ninyo ang salita ng Diyos sa pamamagitan ng inyong mga minanang kaugalian. Marami pa kayong ginagawang tulad nito.”

Ang Nagpaparumi sa Tao(D)

14 Muling pinalapit ni Jesus ang maraming tao at sinabi sa kanila, “Makinig kayong lahat sa akin at unawain ang sasabihin ko. 15 Hindi ang isinusubo ng tao ang nagpaparumi sa kanya; ang lumalabas sa kanya ang nagpaparumi sa tao.” 16 [Makinig ang sinumang may pandinig.][b] 17 Iniwan ni Jesus ang mga tao, at pagkapasok niya sa bahay, tinanong siya ng kanyang mga alagad tungkol sa talinghaga. 18 “Pati ba kayo'y hindi nakauunawa?” tanong ni Jesus. “Hindi ba ninyo alam na hindi nakapagpaparumi sa tao ang kinakain niya? 19 Sapagkat hindi ito pumapasok sa kanyang puso kundi sa tiyan, at pagkatapos ay idinudumi!” Sa sinabing ito ay ipinahayag niya na malinis ang lahat ng pagkain. 20 Sinabi pa niya, “Ang lumalabas sa tao ang nagpaparumi sa tao. 21 Sapagkat mula sa loob, mula sa puso ng tao, lumalabas ang masasamang pag-iisip, mga pakikiapid, mga pagnanakaw, mga pagpaslang, 22 mga pangangalunya, mga pag-iimbot, mga kabuktutan, pandaraya, kahalayan, pagkainggit, paglapastangan, kapalaluan, at kahangalan. 23 Ang lahat ng kasamaang ito ay sa loob nagmumula at siyang nagpaparumi sa tao.”

Ang Pananampalataya ng Isang Babaing Taga-Sirofenicia(E)

24 Umalis doon si Jesus at nagpunta sa lupain ng Tiro. Tumuloy siya sa isang bahay doon, at ayaw sana niyang malaman ninuman na naroon siya. Subalit hindi naman ito maitago. 25 Nabalitaan ng isang babaing may anak na sinasaniban ng maruming espiritu na naroon si Jesus. Kaya't nagpunta agad siya kay Jesus at nagpatirapa sa kanyang paanan. 26 Ang babaing ito ay isang Griyego, isinilang sa Sirofenicia. Nagmakaawa siya kay Jesus[c] na palayasin ang demonyo sa kanyang anak na babae. 27 Sinabi ni Jesus sa babae, “Kailangang ang mga anak muna ang mapakain. Hindi dapat kunin ang tinapay ng mga anak upang ihagis sa mga aso.” 28 Ngunit tumugon ang babae, “Opo, Panginoon, ngunit kahit na ang mga aso sa ilalim ng hapag ay kumakain ng mga nalaglag na tinapay ng mga anak.” 29 Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanya, “Dahil sa sinabi mo, maaari ka nang umuwi. Iniwan na ng demonyo ang iyong anak.” 30 Umuwi nga ang babae at nadatnan niyang nakahiga ang anak sa higaan. Iniwan na ito ng demonyo.

Pinagaling ni Jesus ang Taong Bingi

31 Sa pagbabalik ni Jesus mula sa lupain ng Tiro, dumaan siya sa Sidon patungo sa lawa ng Galilea, matapos tahakin ang lupain ng Decapolis. 32 Doon ay dinala sa kanya ng ilang tao ang isang lalaking bingi at may kapansanan sa pagsasalita. Nakiusap sila sa kanya na ipatong ang kanyang kamay sa lalaki. 33 Matapos mailayo ang lalaki mula sa karamihan, ipinasok ni Jesus ang kanyang mga daliri sa mga tainga ng bingi. Pagkatapos nito'y dumura siya at hinipo ang dila nito. 34 Tumingala siya sa langit, huminga nang malalim, at sinabi sa lalaki, “Effata!” na ibig sabihi'y “Mabuksan!” 35 Agad nakarinig ang lalaki, at parang may taling nakalag sa kanyang dila, at nakapagsalita nang malinaw. 36 Inutusan naman sila ni Jesus na huwag sabihin ito kaninuman. Ngunit habang pinagbabawalan niya ang mga tao ay lalo naman nilang ipinamamalita ang nangyari. 37 Manghang-mangha ang mga tao. Sinabi nila, “Maganda ang lahat ng kanyang ginagawa! Nakaririnig na ang bingi, at nakapagsasalita ang pipi.”
