The Leaven of the Pharisees and Herod
14 Now they had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. 15 And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out; (A)beware of (B)the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of (C)Herod.”[a] 16 And they began discussing with one another the fact that they had no bread. 17 And (D)Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? (E)Do you not yet perceive (F)or understand? (G)Are your hearts hardened? 18 (H)Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember? 19 When I broke (I)the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to him, “Twelve.” 20 “And (J)the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said to him, “Seven.” 21 And he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?”

34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him (A)deny himself and (B)take up his cross and follow me. 35 For (C)whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake (D)and the gospel's will save it. 36 (E)For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37 For (F)what can a man give in return for his soul?

Jesus Heals a Boy with an Unclean Spirit
14 (A)And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them. 15 And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, (B)were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him. 16 And he asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” 17 And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has (C)a spirit that makes him mute. 18 And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and (D)they were not able.” 19 And he answered them, “O (E)faithless generation, (F)how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Who Is the Greatest?
24 (A)A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 (B)And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles (C)exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 (D)But not so with you. Rather, let (E)the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 27 For who is the greater, (F)one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But (G)I am among you as the one who serves.

39 (A)And he came out and went, (B)as was his custom, to (C)the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. 40 (D)And when he came to (E)the place, he said to them, (F)“Pray that you may not (G)enter into temptation.” 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and (H)knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, (I)“Father, if you are willing, remove (J)this cup from me. (K)Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him (L)an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And (M)being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.[a] 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and (N)pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
