²¹ For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, ^(A)murder, adultery,

Warning Against Worldliness

4 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions^[a] are ^(A)at war within you?^{[b] 2} You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. ³ You ask and do not receive, because you ask ^(B)wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

¹⁹ Now ^(A)the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, ^(B)divisions, ²¹ envy,^[a] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that ^(C)those who do^[b] such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

⁴ have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become ^(A)judges with evil thoughts?

⁷ For the mind that is set on the flesh is ^(A)hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; ^(B)indeed, it cannot. ⁸ Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come ^(A)evil thoughts, ^(B)murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, ^(C)slander.

⁴ But Jesus, ^(A)knowing^[a] their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?

²² Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, ^(A)if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.
