^15 (A)There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.”^[a]

^15 (A)To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and ^(B)unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both ^(C)their minds and their consciences are defiled.

⁴² Whatever goes on its belly, and whatever goes on all fours, or whatever has many feet, any swarming thing that swarms on the ground, you shall not eat, for they are detestable. ^43 (A)You shall not make yourselves detestable with any swarming thing that swarms, and you shall not defile yourselves with them, and become unclean through them. ⁴⁴ For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and ^(B)be holy, for I am holy. ^(C)You shall not defile yourselves with any swarming thing that crawls on the ground. ^45 (D)For I am the Lord who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. ^(E)You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.”

⁴⁶ This is the law about beast and bird and every living creature that moves through the waters and every creature that swarms on the ground, ^47 (F)to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean and between the living creature that may be eaten and the living creature that may not be eaten.

⁹ Do not be ^(A)led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, ^(B)not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them.

¹⁰ but deal only with ^(A)food and drink and ^(B)various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.

^34 (A)You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, ^(B)when you are evil? ^(C)For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

^17 (A)For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but ^(B)of righteousness and ^(C)peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ And he said to them, “Then ^(A)are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, ¹⁹ since it enters not his heart ^(B)but his stomach, and is expelled?”^[a] (^(C)Thus he declared all foods clean.) ²⁰ And he said, ^(D)“What comes out of a person is what defiles him. ²¹ For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, ^(E)murder, adultery, ²² coveting, wickedness, deceit, ^(F)sensuality, ^(G)envy, ^(H)slander, ^(I)pride, ^(J)foolishness. ^23 (K)All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
