El endemoniado de Gerasa(A)
5 Llegaron al otro lado del lago, a la tierra de Gerasa. 2 En cuanto Jesús bajó de la barca, se le acercó un hombre que tenía un espíritu impuro. Este hombre había salido de entre las tumbas, 3 porque vivía en ellas. Nadie podía sujetarlo, ni siquiera con cadenas. 4 Pues aunque muchas veces lo habían atado de pies y manos con cadenas, siempre las había hecho pedazos, sin que nadie lo pudiera dominar. 5 Andaba de día y de noche por los cerros y las tumbas, gritando y golpeándose con piedras. 6 Pero cuando vio de lejos a Jesús, echó a correr, y poniéndose de rodillas delante de él 7 le dijo a gritos:
—¡No te metas conmigo, Jesús, Hijo del Dios altísimo! ¡Te ruego por Dios que no me atormentes!
8 Hablaba así porque Jesús le había dicho:
—¡Espíritu impuro, deja a ese hombre!
9 Jesús le preguntó:
—¿Cómo te llamas?
Él contestó:
—Me llamo Legión, porque somos muchos.
10 Y rogaba mucho a Jesús que no enviara los espíritus fuera de aquella región. 11 Y como cerca de allí, junto al cerro, había gran número de cerdos comiendo, 12 los espíritus le rogaron:
—Mándanos a los cerdos y déjanos entrar en ellos.
13 Jesús les dio permiso, y los espíritus impuros salieron del hombre y entraron en los cerdos. Éstos, que eran unos dos mil, echaron a correr pendiente abajo hasta el lago, y allí se ahogaron.
14 Los que cuidaban de los cerdos salieron huyendo, y fueron a contar en el pueblo y por los campos lo sucedido. La gente acudió a ver lo que había pasado. 15 Y cuando llegaron a donde estaba Jesús, vieron sentado, vestido y en su cabal juicio al endemoniado que había tenido la legión de espíritus. La gente estaba asustada, 16 y los que habían visto lo sucedido con el endemoniado y con los cerdos, se lo contaron a los demás. 17 Entonces comenzaron a rogarle a Jesús que se fuera de aquellos lugares.
18 Al volver Jesús a la barca, el hombre que había estado endemoniado le rogó que lo dejara ir con él. 19 Pero Jesús no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo:
—Vete a tu casa, con tus parientes, y cuéntales todo lo que el Señor te ha hecho, y cómo ha tenido compasión de ti.
20 El hombre se fue, y comenzó a contar por los pueblos de Decápolis lo que Jesús había hecho por él; y todos se quedaron admirados.
La mujer enferma y la hija de Jairo(B)
21 Cuando Jesús regresó en la barca al otro lado del lago, se le reunió mucha gente, y él se quedó en la orilla. 22 En esto llegó uno de los jefes de la sinagoga, llamado Jairo, que al ver a Jesús se echó a sus pies 23 y le rogó mucho, diciéndole:
—Mi hija se está muriendo; ven a poner tus manos sobre ella, para que sane y viva.
24 Jesús fue con él, y mucha gente lo acompañaba apretujándose a su alrededor. 25 Entre la multitud había una mujer que desde hacía doce años estaba enferma, con derrames de sangre. 26 Había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos, y había gastado todo lo que tenía, sin que le hubiera servido de nada. Al contrario, iba de mal en peor. 27 Cuando oyó hablar de Jesús, esta mujer se le acercó por detrás, entre la gente, y le tocó la capa. 28 Porque pensaba: «Tan sólo con que llegue a tocar su capa, quedaré sana.» 29 Al momento, el derrame de sangre se detuvo, y sintió en el cuerpo que ya estaba curada de su enfermedad. 30 Jesús, dándose cuenta de que había salido poder de él, se volvió a mirar a la gente, y preguntó:
—¿Quién me ha tocado la ropa?
31 Sus discípulos le dijeron:
—Ves que la gente te oprime por todos lados, y preguntas “¿Quién me ha tocado?”
32 Pero Jesús seguía mirando a su alrededor, para ver quién lo había tocado. 33 Entonces la mujer, temblando de miedo y sabiendo lo que le había pasado, fue y se arrodilló delante de él, y le contó toda la verdad. 34 Jesús le dijo:
—Hija, por tu fe has sido sanada. Vete tranquila y curada ya de tu enfermedad.
35 Todavía estaba hablando Jesús, cuando llegaron unos de casa del jefe de la sinagoga a decirle al padre de la niña:
—Tu hija ha muerto. ¿Para qué molestar más al Maestro?
36 Pero Jesús, sin hacer caso de ellos, le dijo al jefe de la sinagoga:
—No tengas miedo; cree solamente.
37 Y no dejó que lo acompañaran más que Pedro, Santiago y Juan, el hermano de Santiago. 38 Al llegar a la casa del jefe de la sinagoga y ver el alboroto y la gente que lloraba y gritaba, 39 entró y les dijo:
—¿Por qué hacen tanto ruido y lloran de esa manera? La niña no está muerta, sino dormida.
40 La gente se rió de Jesús, pero él los hizo salir a todos, y tomando al padre, a la madre y a los que lo acompañaban, entró a donde estaba la niña. 41 La tomó de la mano y le dijo:
—Talitá, cum (que significa: «Muchacha, a ti te digo, levántate»).
42 Al momento, la muchacha, que tenía doce años, se levantó y echó a andar. Y la gente se quedó muy admirada. 43 Pero Jesús ordenó severamente que no se lo contaran a nadie, y luego mandó que dieran de comer a la niña.

A Demon-Possessed Man Healed(A)
5 Then (B)they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the [a]Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an (C)unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind [b]him, not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. 7 And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I (D)implore[c] You by God that You do not torment me.”
8 For He said to him, (E)“Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” 9 Then He asked him, “What is your name?”
And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” 10 Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country.
11 Now a large herd of (F)swine was feeding there near the mountains. 12 So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.” 13 And [d]at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.
14 So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. 15 Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been (G)demon-possessed and had the legion, (H)sitting and (I)clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 16 And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. 17 Then (J)they began to plead with Him to depart from their region.
18 And when He got into the boat, (K)he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” 20 And he departed and began to (L)proclaim in [e]Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all (M)marveled.
A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed(N)
21 (O)Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. 22 (P)And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and (Q)lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.
25 Now a certain woman (R)had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and (S)touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the [f]affliction. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that (T)power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”
31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, (U)fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, (V)your faith has made you well. (W)Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
35 (X)While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only (Y)believe.” 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw [g]a tumult and those who (Z)wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but (AA)sleeping.”
40 And they ridiculed Him. (AB)But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were (AC)overcome with great amazement. 43 But (AD)He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat.

Gesù guarisce l’indemoniato di Gerasa
5 (A)Giunsero all’altra riva del mare, nel paese dei Geraseni[a]. 2 Appena Gesù fu smontato dalla barca, gli venne subito incontro dai sepolcri un uomo posseduto da uno spirito immondo, 3 il quale aveva nei sepolcri[b] la sua dimora; nessuno poteva più[c] tenerlo legato neppure con una catena. 4 Poiché spesso era stato legato con ceppi e con catene, ma le catene erano state da lui rotte e i ceppi spezzati, e nessuno aveva la forza di domarlo. 5 Di continuo, notte e giorno, andava tra i sepolcri e su per i monti, urlando e percuotendosi con delle pietre. 6 Quando vide Gesù da lontano, corse, gli si prostrò davanti 7 e a gran voce disse: «Che c’è fra me e te, Gesù, Figlio del Dio altissimo? Io ti scongiuro, in nome di Dio, di non tormentarmi». 8 Gesù, infatti, gli diceva: «Spirito immondo, esci da quest’uomo!» 9 Gesù gli domandò: «Qual è il tuo nome?» Ed egli gli disse[d]: «Il mio nome è Legione, perché siamo molti». 10 E lo pregava con insistenza che non li mandasse via dal paese. 11 C’era là un grande branco di porci che pascolava sul monte[e]. 12 [Tutti i demòni] lo pregarono dicendo: «Mandaci nei porci, perché entriamo in essi». 13 Egli lo permise loro[f]. Gli spiriti immondi, usciti, entrarono nei porci, e il branco si gettò giù a precipizio nel mare. Erano circa duemila e affogarono nel mare. 14 E quelli che li custodivano[g] fuggirono e portarono la notizia in città e per la campagna; la gente andò a vedere[h] ciò che era avvenuto. 15 Vennero da Gesù e videro l’indemoniato seduto, vestito e sano di mente, lui che aveva avuto la legione; e s’impaurirono. 16 Quelli che avevano visto raccontarono loro ciò che era avvenuto all’indemoniato e il fatto dei porci. 17 Ed essi cominciarono a pregare Gesù che se ne andasse via dai loro confini.
18 Com’egli saliva sulla barca, l’uomo che era stato indemoniato lo pregava di poter stare con lui. 19 Gesù[i] non glielo permise, ma gli disse: «Va’ a casa tua dai tuoi e racconta loro le grandi cose che il Signore ti ha fatte, e come ha avuto pietà di te». 20 Ed egli se ne andò e cominciò a proclamare nella Decapoli le grandi cose che Gesù aveva fatte per lui. E tutti si meravigliavano.
Gesù guarisce una donna e risuscita la figlia di Iairo
21 (B)Gesù passò di nuovo {in barca} all’altra riva, e una gran folla si radunò attorno a lui; ed egli stava presso il mare. 22 E uno dei capi[j] della sinagoga, chiamato Iairo, venne e, vedutolo, gli si gettò ai piedi 23 e lo pregò con insistenza, dicendo: «La mia bambina sta morendo. Vieni a posare le mani su di lei, affinché sia salva e viva». 24 Gesù andò con lui, e molta gente lo seguiva e lo stringeva da ogni parte.
25 Una donna, che aveva perdite di sangue da dodici anni, 26 e che molto aveva sofferto da molti medici e aveva speso tutto ciò che possedeva senza nessun giovamento, anzi era piuttosto peggiorata, 27 avendo udito parlare di Gesù, venne dietro tra la folla e gli toccò la veste, perché diceva: 28 «Se riesco a toccare almeno le sue vesti, sarò salva». 29 In quell’istante la sua emorragia ristagnò; ed ella sentì nel suo corpo di essere guarita da quella malattia. 30 Subito Gesù, conscio della potenza che era emanata da lui, voltatosi indietro verso la folla, disse: «Chi mi ha toccato le vesti?» 31 I suoi discepoli gli dissero: «Tu vedi come la folla ti si stringe attorno e dici: “Chi mi ha toccato?”». 32 Ed egli guardava attorno per vedere colei che aveva fatto questo. 33 Ma la donna paurosa e tremante, ben sapendo quello che le era accaduto[k], venne, gli si gettò ai piedi e gli disse tutta la verità. 34 Ed egli le disse: «Figliola, la tua fede ti ha salvata; va’ in pace e sii guarita dal tuo male».
35 Mentre egli parlava ancora, vennero dalla casa del capo della sinagoga, dicendo: «Tua figlia è morta; perché incomodi ancora il Maestro?» 36 Ma Gesù, [appena] udito quel che si diceva[l], disse al capo della sinagoga: «Non temere; soltanto abbi fede!» 37 E non permise a nessuno di accompagnarlo, tranne che a Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni, fratello di Giacomo. 38 Giunsero[m] a casa del capo della sinagoga; ed egli vide una gran confusione e gente che piangeva e urlava. 39 Entrato, disse loro: «Perché fate tanto strepito e piangete? La bambina non è morta, ma dorme». 40 Ed essi ridevano di lui. Ma egli li mise tutti fuori, prese con sé il padre e la madre della bambina e quelli che erano con lui, ed entrò là dove era[n] la bambina. 41 E, presala per mano, le disse: «Talità cum![o]», che tradotto vuol dire: «Ragazza, ti dico: àlzati!» 42 Subito la ragazza si alzò e camminava, perché aveva dodici anni. E furono subito[p] presi da grande stupore; 43 ed egli comandò loro con insistenza che nessuno lo venisse a sapere; e disse che le fosse dato da mangiare.
