Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man(A)
2 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers(B) that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man,(C) carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”(D)
6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”(E)
8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? 9 Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man(F) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God,(G) saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”(H)
Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners(I)
13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him,(J) and he began to teach them. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,”(K) Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees(L) saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”(M)
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”(N)
Jesus Questioned About Fasting(O)
18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting.(P) Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”
19 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. 20 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them,(Q) and on that day they will fast.
21 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. 22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”
Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(R)(S)
23 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain.(T) 24 The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”(U)
25 He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? 26 In the days of Abiathar the high priest,(V) he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat.(W) And he also gave some to his companions.”(X)
27 Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man,(Y) not man for the Sabbath.(Z) 28 So the Son of Man(AA) is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

8 Right away(N) Jesus perceived in his spirit(O) that they were thinking like this within themselves and said to them, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier:(P) to say to the paralytic,(Q) ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat, and walk’?(R) 10 But so that you may know that the Son of Man(S) has authority(T) on earth to forgive sins”(U)—he told the paralytic— 11 “I tell you: get up,(V) take your mat, and go home.”
12 Immediately he got up, took the mat, and went out in front of everyone. As a result, they were all astounded(W) and gave glory(X) to God,(Y) saying, “We have never seen anything like this!” (Z)
The Call of Levi
13 Jesus(AA) went out again beside the sea. The whole crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching(AB) them. 14 Then, passing by, he saw Levi(AC) the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office,(AD) and he said to him, “Follow me,”(AE) and he got up and followed(AF) him.
15 While he was reclining at the table in Levi’s house, many tax collectors(AG) and sinners(AH) were eating[b] with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who were following him. 16 When the scribes(AI) who were Pharisees[c](AJ) saw that he was eating(AK) with sinners(AL) and tax collectors,(AM) they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat[d] with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 When Jesus heard this, he told them, “It is not those who are well who need(AN) a doctor,(AO) but those who are sick.(AP) I didn’t come to call the righteous,(AQ) but sinners.”(AR)
A Question about Fasting
18 Now(AS) John’s(AT) disciples(AU) and the Pharisees[e](AV) were fasting.(AW) People came and asked him, “Why do John’s disciples and the Pharisees’ disciples fast, but your disciples do not fast?”
19 Jesus said to them, “The wedding guests cannot fast while the groom(AX) is with them, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they cannot fast. 20 But the time[f] will come(AY) when the groom will be taken away from them,(AZ) and then they will fast(BA) on that day. 21 No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new patch pulls away from the old cloth,(BB) and a worse tear is made. 22 And no one puts new wine(BC) into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst(BD) the skins, and the wine is lost as well as the skins. No, new wine is put into fresh wineskins.”
Lord of the Sabbath
23 On(BE) the Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and his disciples(BF) began to make their way, picking some heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees(BG) said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful(BH) on the Sabbath?”
25 He said to them, “Have you never read what David(BI) and those who were with him did when he was in need(BJ) and hungry(BK) — 26 how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar(BL) the high priest(BM) and ate the bread of the Presence(BN) —which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests(BO) —and also gave some to his companions?” 27 Then he told them, “The Sabbath was made for[g] man and not man for the Sabbath.(BP) 28 So then, the Son of Man(BQ) is Lord(BR) even of the Sabbath.”(BS)

When they had broken it up, they let down the mat that the paralytic was lying on. 5 Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”
6 But there were some of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this man speak blasphemies like that? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
8 Immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you reason these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to tell the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven;’ or to say, ‘Arise, and take up your bed, and walk’? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— 11 “I tell you, arise, take up your mat, and go to your house.”
12 He arose, and immediately took up the mat and went out in front of them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”
13 He went out again by the seaside. All the multitude came to him, and he taught them. 14 As he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. He said to him, “Follow me.” And he arose and followed him.
15 He was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners sat down with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many, and they followed him. 16 The scribes and the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why is it that he eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
18 John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they came and asked him, “Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don’t fast?”
19 Jesus said to them, “Can the groomsmen fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they can’t fast. 20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day. 21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, or else the patch shrinks and the new tears away from the old, and a worse hole is made. 22 No one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the skins, and the wine pours out, and the skins will be destroyed; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins.”
23 He was going on the Sabbath day through the grain fields; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of grain. 24 The Pharisees said to him, “Behold, why do they do that which is not lawful on the Sabbath day?”
25 He said to them, “Did you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry—he, and those who were with him? 26 How he entered into God’s house at the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the show bread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?”
27 He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
6 But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
13 And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.
15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.
16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
19 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.
23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.
24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

Jesus cura um paralítico

2 Alguns dias depois, Jesus voltou para a cidade de Cafarnaum e a notícia de que ele estava em casa se espalhou. 2 Então, se juntou tamanha multidão que não havia lugar para ficar nem mesmo perto da porta, do lado de fora. Jesus estava ensinando a sua mensagem a eles 3 quando quatro homens chegaram, levando um paralítico. 4 Eles não estavam conseguindo se aproximar de Jesus por causa da multidão. Então, abriram um buraco no telhado acima do lugar onde Jesus estava e, pela abertura, abaixaram até ele a maca onde o paralítico estava deitado. 5 Ao ver a fé que eles tinham, Jesus disse ao paralítico:
—Os seus pecados estão perdoados, meu filho.
6 Alguns professores da lei, que estavam ali sentados, começaram a perguntar a si mesmos:
7 —Por que este homem está dizendo essas coisas? Ele está insultando a Deus. Só Deus pode perdoar pecados!
8 Imediatamente Jesus sabia o que eles estavam pensando e disse:
—Por que vocês estão pensando essas coisas?
9 Talvez vocês pensem que é mais fácil lhe dizer: “Os seus pecados estão perdoados”, porque isso não pode provar que eu tenho autoridade para perdoar os pecados das pessoas. Se eu, porém, lhe dizer: “Levante-se, pegue a sua maca e ande!” 10 e assim acontecer, então ficará demonstrado que o Filho do Homem tem autoridade na terra para perdoar pecados. Então Jesus disse ao paralítico:
11 —Levante-se, pegue a sua maca e vá para casa.
12 E diante de todos o homem se levantou, pegou a sua maca e caminhou para fora. Todos ficaram maravilhados e começaram a adorar a Deus, dizendo:
—Nunca vimos nada parecido com isto!
Jesus chama Levi

13 De novo Jesus saiu e foi para a margem do lago. Toda a multidão foi ao seu encontro e Jesus começou a ensiná-los. 14 Enquanto Jesus caminhava, ele viu Levi, filho de Alfeu. Ele estava sentado no lugar onde as pessoas pagavam os seus impostos. Jesus lhe disse:

—Por que ele come com cobradores de impostos e com pecadores?
17 Jesus, porém, ao ouvir isto, lhes respondeu:
—Não são os que têm saúde que precisam de médico, mas sim os que estão doentes. Por isso eu não vim chamar aqueles que se creem justos, mas sim os pecadores.
Jesus ensina sobre o jejum

18 Os discípulos de João e os fariseus estavam jejuando. Então algumas pessoas se aproximaram de Jesus e lhe perguntaram:
—Por que é que tanto os discípulos de João Batista como os fariseus jejuam, e os teus discípulos não jejuam?
19 E Jesus lhes respondeu:
—Por acaso os convidados do noivo jejuam enquanto o noivo está com eles? Claro que não! 20 Mas virá o tempo em que o noivo será levado para longe deles. Então eles jejuarão.
21 —Ninguém remenda uma roupa velha com retalho de pano novo. Se fizer isso, o pano novo vai encolher e rasgar a roupa velha, e o rasgo ficará ainda maior. 22 Da mesma forma, ninguém coloca vinho novo[a] em odres velhos, pois o vinho arrebentará os odres e tanto o vinho como os odres ficarão arruinados. Vinho novo é colocado em odres novos.
Jesus é Senhor do sábado
(Mt 12.1-8; Lc 6.1-5)
23 Num sábado, Jesus estava atravessando as searas. Enquanto passavam, seus discípulos começaram a colher espigas. 24 Os fariseus, então, lhe perguntaram:
—Por que os teus discípulos fazem o que não é permitido fazer no sábado?
25 Mas Jesus lhes respondeu:
—Vocês nunca leram o que Davi fez quando ele e seus companheiros estavam com fome e não tinham o que comer?[b] 26 Davi entrou na casa de Deus no tempo em que Abiatar era o sumo sacerdote, e comeu do pão consagrado a Deus. Somente os sacerdotes é que podiam comer desse pão, mas Davi não só o comeu como também o repartiu com os homens que estavam com ele.
27 Depois Jesus lhes disse:
—O sábado foi feito para o benefício do homem e não o homem para o benefício do sábado. 28 Portanto, o Filho do Homem é Senhor até do sábado.
