²⁸ so the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

¹⁰ I was in the spirit^[a] on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet^(A)

⁸ For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

²² And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church,^(A)

¹⁴ Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.^(A)

¹⁶ Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not observe the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?” And they were divided.^(A)

⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”^{(A) 6} When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes,^{(B) 7} saying to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see.^{(C) 8} The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar began to ask, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?” ⁹ Some were saying, “It is he.” Others were saying, “No, but it is someone like him.” He kept saying, “I am he.” ¹⁰ But they kept asking him, “Then how were your eyes opened?” ¹¹ He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ Then I went and washed and received my sight.”

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, and I also am working.”^(A)

⁹ At once the man was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk.

Now that day was a Sabbath.^{(A) 10} So the Jews said to the man who had been cured, “It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your mat.”^{(B) 11} But he answered them, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’ ”

¹⁵ But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it to water?^{(A) 16} And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the Sabbath day?”^(B)
