Jesus Is Mocked

16 (A)And the soldiers led him away inside (B)the palace (that is, (C)the governor's headquarters),[a] and they called together the whole (D)battalion.[b] 17 And they clothed him in (E)a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. 18 And they began to salute him, (F)“Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 And they were striking his head with a reed and (G)spitting on him and (H)kneeling down in homage to him. 20 And when they had (I)mocked him, they stripped him of (J)the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they (K)led him out to crucify him.

16 Then(A) the soldiers led Him away into the courtyard (that is, headquarters(B)) and called the whole company together. 17 They dressed Him in a purple(C) robe, twisted together a crown(D) of thorns, and put it on Him. 18 And they began to salute Him, “Hail,(E) King(F) of the Jews!” 19 They kept hitting Him on the head with a reed and spitting on Him. Getting down on their knees,(G) they were paying Him homage. 20 When they had mocked(H) Him, they stripped Him of the purple robe, put His clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.
