Holman Christian Standard Bible
The First Lord’s Supper
22 As(A) they were eating, He took bread,(B) blessed and broke(C) it, gave it to them,(D) and said, “Take it;[a] this is My body.”(E)
23 Then He took a cup, and after giving thanks,(F) He gave it to them, and so they all drank from it. 24 He said to them, “This is My blood that establishes the covenant;[b](G) it is shed(H) for many.(I) 25 I assure you:(J) I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine(K) until that day when I drink it in a new(L) way[c] in the kingdom of God.”(M) 26 After singing psalms,[d] they went out to the Mount of Olives.(N)
Peter’s Denial Predicted
27 Then(O) Jesus said to them, “All of you will run away,[e][f] because it is written:(P)
28 But after I have been resurrected,(S) I will go ahead of you to Galilee.”(T)
29 Peter(U) told Him, “Even if everyone runs away, I will certainly not!”
30 “I assure you,” Jesus said to him, “today, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times!”(V)
31 But he kept insisting, “If I have to die with You, I will never deny You!” And they all said the same thing.
