The Great Commandment

^28 (A)And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”

The Great Commandment

^34 (A)But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced ^(B)the Sadducees, they gathered together. ^35 (C)And one of them, ^(D)a lawyer, asked him a question ^(E)to test him. ³⁶ “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” ³⁷ And he said to him, ^(F)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ³⁸ This is the great and first commandment. ³⁹ And ^(G)a second is like it: ^(H)You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ^40 (I)On these two commandments depend ^(J)all the Law and the Prophets.”

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

^25 (A)And behold, a ^(B)lawyer stood up to ^(C)put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to ^(D)inherit eternal life?” ²⁶ He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” ²⁷ And he answered, ^(E)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and ^(F)your neighbor as yourself.” ²⁸ And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; ^(G)do this, and you will live.”

³⁹ Then some of the scribes ^(A)answered, “Teacher, you have spoken well.”

¹⁸ He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, ^(A)“You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,

^19 (A)Therefore whoever relaxes ^(B)one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least ^(C)in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great ^(D)in the kingdom of heaven.

^42 (A)“But woe to you Pharisees! For ^(B)you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect ^(C)justice and ^(D)the love of God. ^(E)These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.

^23 (A)“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ^(B)you tithe mint and dill and ^(C)cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: ^(D)justice and mercy and faithfulness. ^(E)These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
