The Triumphal Entry
11 (A)Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to (B)Bethphage and Bethany, at (C)the Mount of Olives, Jesus[a] sent (D)two of his disciples 2 and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, (E)on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4 And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5 And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. 8 And many (F)spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. 9 And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, (G)“Hosanna! (H)Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is (I)the coming (J)kingdom of (K)our father (L)David! (M)Hosanna (N)in the highest!”
11 (O)And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, (P)he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
Jesus Curses the Fig Tree
12 (Q)On the following day, when they came from Bethany, (R)he was hungry. 13 (S)And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for (T)it was not the season for figs. 14 And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
15 (U)And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of (V)the money-changers and the seats of those who sold (W)pigeons. 16 And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. 17 And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, (X)‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But (Y)you have made it a den of robbers.” 18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and (Z)were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because (AA)all the crowd was astonished at his teaching. 19 (AB)And when evening came they[b] went out of the city.
The Lesson from the Withered Fig Tree
20 (AC)As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. 21 And Peter remembered and said to him, (AD)“Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” 22 And Jesus answered them, “Have (AE)faith in God. 23 (AF)Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, (AG)‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not (AH)doubt in his heart, but (AI)believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, (AJ)whatever you ask in prayer, (AK)believe that you (AL)have received[c] it, and it will be yours. 25 And whenever (AM)you stand praying, (AN)forgive, (AO)if you have anything against anyone, so that (AP)your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”[d]
The Authority of Jesus Challenged
27 (AQ)And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him, 28 and they said to him, (AR)“By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?” 29 Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 Was the baptism of John (AS)from heaven or from man? Answer me.” 31 And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, (AT)‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 32 But shall we say, ‘From man’?”—(AU)they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was (AV)a prophet. 33 So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

Entrée triomphale de Jésus à Jérusalem
11 Lorsqu'ils approchèrent de Jérusalem, près de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, vers le mont des Oliviers, Jésus envoya deux de ses disciples 2 en leur disant: «Allez au village qui est devant vous. Dès que vous y serez entrés, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, sur lequel personne n'est encore monté. Détachez-le et amenez-le. 3 Si quelqu'un vous demande: ‘Pourquoi faites-vous cela?’ répondez: ‘Le Seigneur en a besoin’, et à l'instant il le laissera venir ici.»
4 Les disciples partirent; ils trouvèrent l'ânon attaché dehors près d'une porte, dans la rue, et ils le détachèrent. 5 Quelques-uns de ceux qui étaient là leur dirent: «Que faites-vous? Pourquoi détachez-vous cet ânon?» 6 Ils répondirent comme Jésus le leur avait dit, et on les laissa faire. 7 Ils amenèrent l'ânon à Jésus, jetèrent leurs vêtements sur lui, et Jésus s'assit dessus. 8 Beaucoup de gens étendirent leurs vêtements sur le chemin, et d'autres des branches qu'ils coupèrent dans les champs. 9 Ceux qui précédaient et ceux qui suivaient Jésus criaient: «Hosanna![a] Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur![b] 10 Béni soit le règne qui vient [au nom du Seigneur], le règne de David, notre père! Hosanna dans les lieux très hauts!»
11 Jésus entra à Jérusalem et se rendit au temple. Après avoir tout regardé autour de lui, comme il était déjà tard, il sortit pour aller à Béthanie avec les douze.
Jésus dans le temple
12 Le lendemain, comme ils quittaient Béthanie, Jésus eut faim. 13 Il aperçut de loin un figuier qui avait des feuilles et alla voir s'il y trouverait quelque chose, mais quand il se fut approché, il ne trouva que des feuilles, car ce n'était pas la saison des figues. 14 Alors Jésus prit la parole et lui dit: «Que plus jamais personne ne mange de ton fruit!» Et ses disciples l'entendirent.
15 Ils arrivèrent à Jérusalem, et Jésus entra dans le temple. Il se mit à chasser ceux qui vendaient et qui achetaient dans le temple, et il renversa les tables des changeurs de monnaie et les sièges des vendeurs de pigeons. 16 Il ne laissait personne transporter un objet à travers le temple 17 et il les enseignait en disant: «N'est-il pas écrit: Mon temple sera appelé une maison de prière pour toutes les nations[c]? Mais vous, vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs[d].» 18 Les chefs des prêtres et les spécialistes de la loi l'entendirent, et ils cherchaient les moyens de le faire mourir; ils le redoutaient en effet, parce que toute la foule était frappée par son enseignement. 19 Le soir venu, Jésus sortit de la ville.
20 Le lendemain matin, en passant, les disciples virent le figuier: il était desséché jusqu'aux racines. 21 Se rappelant ce qui s'était passé, Pierre dit à Jésus: «Maître, regarde, le figuier que tu as maudit est desséché.» 22 Jésus leur dit alors: «Ayez foi en Dieu. 23 Je vous le dis en vérité, si quelqu'un dit à cette montagne: ‘Retire-toi de là et jette-toi dans la mer’, et s'il ne doute pas dans son cœur mais croit que ce qu'il dit arrive, il le verra s'accomplir. 24 C'est pourquoi je vous le dis: tout ce que vous demanderez en priant, croyez que vous l'avez reçu et cela vous sera accordé. 25 Et lorsque vous êtes debout pour prier, si vous avez quelque chose contre quelqu'un, pardonnez-lui afin que votre Père céleste vous pardonne aussi vos fautes. 26 [Mais si vous ne pardonnez pas, votre Père céleste ne vous pardonnera pas non plus vos fautes.]»
27 Ils se rendirent de nouveau à Jérusalem et, pendant que Jésus se promenait dans le temple, les chefs des prêtres, les spécialistes de la loi et les anciens vinrent vers lui 28 et lui dirent: «Par quelle autorité fais-tu ces choses et qui t'a donné l'autorité de les faire?» 29 Jésus leur répondit: «Je vous poserai [moi aussi] une question; répondez-moi, et je vous dirai par quelle autorité je fais ces choses. 30 Le baptême de Jean venait-il du ciel ou des hommes? Répondez-moi.» 31 Mais ils raisonnèrent ainsi entre eux: «Si nous répondons: ‘Du ciel’, il dira: ‘Pourquoi donc n'avez-vous pas cru en lui?’ 32 Et si nous répondons: ‘Des hommes…’» Ils redoutaient les réactions du peuple, car tous considéraient réellement Jean comme un prophète. 33 Alors ils répondirent à Jésus: «Nous ne savons pas.» Jésus leur répondit: «Moi non plus, je ne vous dirai pas par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.»

11 And when they come nigh to Jerusalem, to Bethphage, and Bethany, unto the mount of the Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,
2 and saith to them, `Go away to the village that is over-against you, and immediately, entering into it, ye shall find a colt tied, on which no one of men hath sat, having loosed it, bring [it]:
3 and if any one may say to you, Why do ye this? say ye that the lord hath need of it, and immediately he will send it hither.'
4 And they went away, and found the colt tied at the door without, by the two ways, and they loose it,
5 and certain of those standing there said to them, `What do ye -- loosing the colt?'
6 and they said to them as Jesus commanded, and they suffered them.
7 And they brought the colt unto Jesus, and did cast upon it their garments, and he sat upon it,
8 and many did spread their garments in the way, and others were cutting down branches from the trees, and were strewing in the way.
9 And those going before and those following were crying out, saying, `Hosanna! blessed [is] he who is coming in the name of the Lord;
10 blessed is the coming reign, in the name of the Lord, of our father David; Hosanna in the highest.'
11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple, and having looked round on all things, it being now evening, he went forth to Bethany with the twelve.
12 And on the morrow, they having come forth from Bethany, he hungered,
13 and having seen a fig-tree afar off having leaves, he came, if perhaps he shall find anything in it, and having come to it, he found nothing except leaves, for it was not a time of figs,
14 and Jesus answering said to it, `No more from thee -- to the age -- may any eat fruit;' and his disciples were hearing.
15 And they come to Jerusalem, and Jesus having gone into the temple, began to cast forth those selling and buying in the temple, and the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those selling the doves, he overthrew,
16 and he did not suffer that any might bear a vessel through the temple,
17 and he was teaching, saying to them, `Hath it not been written -- My house a house of prayer shall be called for all the nations, and ye did make it a den of robbers?'
18 And the scribes and the chief priests heard, and they were seeking how they shall destroy him, for they were afraid of him, because all the multitude was astonished at his teaching;
19 and when evening came, he was going forth without the city.
20 And in the morning, passing by, they saw the fig-tree having been dried up from the roots,
21 and Peter having remembered saith to him, `Rabbi, lo, the fig-tree that thou didst curse is dried up.'
22 And Jesus answering saith to them, `Have faith of God;
23 for verily I say to you, that whoever may say to this mount, Be taken up, and be cast into the sea, and may not doubt in his heart, but may believe that the things that he saith do come to pass, it shall be to him whatever he may say.
24 Because of this I say to you, all whatever -- praying -- ye do ask, believe that ye receive, and it shall be to you.
25 `And whenever ye may stand praying, forgive, if ye have anything against any one, that your Father also who is in the heavens may forgive you your trespasses;
26 and, if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in the heavens forgive your trespasses.'
27 And they come again to Jerusalem, and in the temple, as he is walking, there come unto him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,
28 and they say to him, `By what authority dost thou these things? and who gave thee this authority that these things thou mayest do?'
29 And Jesus answering said to them, `I will question you -- I also -- one word; and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things;
30 the baptism of John -- from heaven was it? or from men? answer me.'
31 And they were reasoning with themselves, saying, `If we may say, From heaven, he will say, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him?
32 But if we may say, From men,' -- they were fearing the people, for all were holding John that he was indeed a prophet;
33 and answering they say to Jesus, `We have not known;' and Jesus answering saith to them, `Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.'
